- plug into PC - Successfully sync's the device - unplug device, XDA is working fine - Plug back in - Fails to identify device, ActiveSync cannot discover XDA, eventually times-out - XDA now runs like a dog, very slow - Soft reset, the cycle begins again. I'm getting this exact same problem. Activesync 4.2, O2 XDA Mini-S. I had the problem on my old PC, and now have a brand new PC and the problem is still there, suggesting the problem lies with the phone (or something installed on it). I am really loathe to do a hard-reset cos it's a pain in the arris to reinstall everything how I like it, has anyone successfully got to the bottom of what causes this behaviour, and more importantly, how to fix it? Thanks. |

Magic - this worked an absolute treat I had spent the apparently obligatory 3 hours tearing my hair out over this stupid BT/ActiveSync thing  Many thanks for the clear to follow guide. |

QUOTE QUOTE  If I try and uninstall the app through settings -> remove programs I get the error " One of the main resons for this is becausse the app was running in the background. Thanks. In this case I did kill all the running apps first, and still go this error. I've now done a hard-reset and started again from scratch, and now everything seems to be working ok. This forum rocks |

QUOTE QUOTE I bet I know what you are not doing, you are not turning the phone to airplane mode. It is a protection so it won't try to backup during data change. See if that works. :)
Try it in airplane mode. I'm getting the same "Sprite Backup for Smartphone cannot run on locked phones such as yours" error, even when I switch to aeroplane mode. My phoned is defintely decerted. Just to follow up, following a hard reset of my phone, I got Sprite working by: 1) Install the non-signed version 2) Install the beta signed version (which comes without the desktop component hence installing the non-signed version first) This is on my app-unlocked Orange MPx200, so no idea why the non-signed version itself doesn't work. |

QUOTE Orange Support and Remote Notify are part of the Action Engine lock package. Your phone will function as normal without them, but I would seriously advise against removing them from the startup. They are jointly responsible for allowing the service provider to lock and backup your phone should it become lost or stolen! It is also the method by which the service provider supplies OTA updates. Remove these at your own risk ! Ooops, I just read this 10 seconds after deleting them....
I'm running a SIM-unlocked Orange phone on O2, so figured that anything with "orange" in the app name was redundant. Is it advisable for me to try and reinstate them? QUOTE MMSRegister and MMSNotify are part of the Jataayu jMMS package. Again, your phone will function without them, but don't expect to receive any SMS/MMS messages. :D At least until you send one yourself, at which point these processes will be automatically started. I don't want to use MMS, so I deleted all this gubbins - but will this mean I don't get SMS either? :? TIA, Robin. |

I've got a MPx200 which I sim-unlocked from Orange and have run alphaflux's decert app. I'm totally new to Smartphones (but am learning quickly thanks to this excellent site I'm trying to remove a bunch of apps that I installed to the phone instead of SD  but am really struggling. I've searched this site thoroghly, but haven't found anyone else having the same probs, which makes me think I must be doing something so blindingly stupid.... If I try and uninstall the app through settings -> remove programs I get the error " If I try and uninstall through ActiveSync, I untick the box next to the program, click OK, and the window closes. If I go back to Add/Remove programs, the program still has a tick next to it (ie is still installed?) A lot of posts I've seen suggest installing the problem app again, and then uninstalling. If I try this I get "The previous verson of Am I doing something really stupid? I've not tried to delete these apps by deleting the files manually; so far as I'm aware I've just installed them, used them a few times, then tried to remove them. I've made sure none of the apps are running in the background when I'm trying to uninstall them. [edit] Despite the app disappearing from my list of programs to uninstall, the app still exists in program files, eg. IPSMProgram FilesPocketMusic has several hundred k of files in it. Can I just delete these? :? [edit] Ta, Robin. |
