Well first day impressions are mixed. Interface is going to take a lot of getting used to but its not bad. People comment on the directional button but I dont mind it to much, it makes things precise if nothing else! Camera BLOOMING EXCELLENT. Makes me want to keep it just for that! But these are my annoyances: Signal level is crap! I have my Diamond sitting next to me on my desk at 2 bars HSDPA, with the omnia, it scrapes 3g, and yes I have enabled HSDPA on the phone as well as with T-Mobile. Battery life dropped 2 bars in an hour of no use. Poor, very poor. Downloading drops out if I decide to download a podcast. Worked fine on the Diamond. The interconnects are awful, and not standard. I thought it wouldnt but it has already caused me grief where to put the device on my desk and having to use up another usb port which are rarer than rocking horse poop with my setup! Thats discounting the fact it has a charger sticking out the side of it like a fork has been poked in the side! It has a stylus as a lanyard. ITS HORRID! It doesnt have touchflo! It has something similar which is more clunky, but its just not right! Almost a contrast in my statement in good parts, but you see I rate it like this. The battery apparently does get better but thats just weird. First impressions are everything when you are playing with very expensive toys like these. I thought I wouldnt like it without a hardware keyboard, but the Diamond is just so fantastic at what it does. It works so well, and if I could stick a hardware keyboard from the Touch Pro, and the Camera from the Omnia, I believe everyone on here would want one. One day we will get there and thus far, we are not doing too bad. However, I am going to give it a few more days to see how I like it but as first impressions goes, this phone is on its way back to T-mobile. I will miss the camera as I have said before, but I cant justify that alone to keep it. Time will tell no doubt! Cheers Phill |

Ok so does anyone want this version and/or know how to completley debrand it. One problem I am having is all the widgets dont seem to work at all, and my home screen doesnt look like that of the picture above. All I get is a stupid T-mobile bar a web and walk bar and then an analogue clock face. How do I add/subtract these? Thanks Phill |

Hi guys I was wondering if some kind fellow could help me with cleaning up some code I use for listing items on ebay. Its not groundbreaking stuff, but I have been using it for a number of years now, mainly with internet explorer. However I have just seen that my ebay auction goes completley screwed when I view it in firefox, which I dont want, and while I can see basics in HTML, I really cannot see whats going on. If you want to look my ebay auction is here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...E:IT&ih=009 Have a look in IE and it looks fine, look again in firefox and you will see what I mean. If someone can pm me as I dont really want to be putting the code out for all and sundry to look at, and help me with it it would be most appreciated. Thanks Phill |

There is no Youtube app as T-mobile opted for some reason to remove this from their ROM. It is very rare, if ever I stick with the operator ROM. There is always something more to be gained by having a different rom than t-mobiles, even if its only for a different colour scheme! Cheers Phill |

Ah I kind of need a TV cable, as per what I said earlier about my wedding reception. Any ideas of where to get one? I dont suppose expansys do one? There appears to be the web and walk branding on it but otherwise there isnt so much which I am so greatful for. Gay boy pink and grey was never my colour! As for the ROM version it appears to be i900XXHH7/BOHH5 No idea what that means. Is that the latest version? If not, can someone talk me through making a backup rom so I can restore it if it needs to go back? Thanks Phillip |

Nice. I may keep my eyes and ears peeled for when I get back. You never know by that time the price might have come down! Right, just got my omnia, unpacked it and low and behold its the 8gb version Im also afraid to say there is no tv out cable with it. For those of you who bought sim free, did you get a tv out cable with it? Thanks Phill |

Thats not a bad option, get more for your money, plus a nice handset and a spare sim if you need it. Just out of interest what card are you using? Im half interested in one but having spent £70 on the omnia, I am thinking another £50 is going to be out of my reach for now. Still waiting for the omnia as it happens, just to check if its 16gb or not! Cheers Phill |

Well The missus (to be) is an ex T-mobile employee, so we get half price line rental. However I can only assume they are good to us because we have 3 contracts, one for me, one for her and one for the mother in law. I made sure it was a 16gb version, so I really hope they dont give me a device that is 8gb with an 8gb sd card. I will be most upset. We shall see, you know what these people in call centres are like they always get something wrong!!! Cheers Phill |

Yea the xperia has not really made me all giddy like these two devices, but then maybe thats because they have never done a WinMo device before. Ill go with the Omnia for now and no doubt have to change the firmware as the t-mobile one is bound to be horrid! Oh thats a point, is it easy to make a backup of the t-mobile stock rom, incase I want to return it in 7 days? Thanks Phill |

Cool I am hearing stuff at the moment and trying to take it in, but I guess I will find out when it arrives tomorrow! Thanks Paul, as a militant user of WinMo devices as well your opinion (and cash to be able to get the devices first!) counts for me. Not that its hard but reading your posts over the years, you kind of go for almost all the same devices as I have! Cheers Phill |

Do you want me to edit the post to show that its the 16gb version more clearly? I couldnt believe it either! When she told me my wallet instantly came out! One question though Paul, in your opinion, having had both devices will I like this phone? Reason I ask is that I have the diamond at the moment, and to be honest I dont mind the on screen keyboard, but I do miss it from the Kaiser. I was hoping for the Vario 4 to come out sooner, but I am getting married in 3 weeks and I leave to go abroad for it in one and a half weeks so I cant afford to be mucking about with phones so close to the wedding. I really want the phone for the tv out so I can play pictures (of the wedding for a UK recption) though a projector without having to take a massive laptop with me! The other thing that interested me was the superb camera on it, which I have never seen such a good camera on a Windows mobile device. I know you have described it as oranges and apples the difference, but I am interested to know your opinion, which one suits you best? Cheers Phill |

![]() Just got off the phone to a lovely lady at T-Mobile who I phoned yesterday to enquire about the release date of the Vario 4 of all devices! Anyway as I have been torn between the i900 and the Vario 4, she said there was still no release date for the Vario 4 but that the i900 is due for release this week and she would call me when it was available. Well true to her word she phoned me back about 5 mins ago (first time for everything eh Its cost me £70+p&p on a flext 25 with W&W. So if you want to bag an i900 on T-Mobile, I suggest you get on the blower now! Cheers Phill [Edit by Paul (MVP): It seems to be the 8GB version...] |

Just got off the phone to upgrades, and they are calling me back as the woman who dealt with me said they were due for release this week. Apparently I have been added to her long list. Im not holding my breath on a call back as this has never ever happened, but its good to know its out this week. I am in a right old dialema. Do I get the Omnia or do I get the Touch Pro. I really cant decide! Cheers Phill |

Id go for an HP any day of the week. And no its nothing to do with the fact that I am HP accredited and can make sure that the laptop is reliably repaired should it ever go wrong. (that is the repair is done by myself!!!) Over the years the three makes of Laptop I would recommend are HP, especially as they normally give 3 years warranty, or at least they did, Toshiba and IBM, now Lenovo. From experience, Dell are not bad either, especially the business/cheaper end of the market. There are new players on the market and like everything out there they take their time to become good, for want of a better way of putting it. I think the best way to gage a decent laptop is a) how decent the spec is for the money and Its worth remembering the last point as its not like a pc where if the sound stops working, you just fit a new soundcard. If the sound stops working on a laptop (and its not software related) you either do without sound or else you (99 times out of 100 anyway) have to swap out the whole mainboard. Hope this helps. Cheers Phill |

Try xda-devs You will need to flash either a stock HTC ROM to the device, or else use a custom made on of your choice. REMEMBER, you MUST HARD-SPL your device before trying to flash a non t-mobile rom or else you will brick your phone. That should be available on the pages you look at as well. You may also have some luck on these forums. Look for TLR or The lone ranger. He from what I recall has some roms on this site, with full instructions. Hope this helps Cheers Phill |

Well my current device is a Vario 3 and I am awaiting the touch pro for my next upgrade. My better half has the Diamond, and is still using her old phone. We now have 4 phones for two of us to use so I have taken to using the diamond this week, as I am probably going to list my Vario 3 later as we need the cash (getting married next month) and we could have a potential to have 5 phones for two people! While I do like the diamond and what it does, I cant get on with the typing on the screen. I much prefer a keyboard. I loved the keyboard that the Universal had, and since have still liked the keyboards on the slide out devices, aka the wizard, hermes and kaiser. From what I have seen, the Touch Pro has all the good features of the Diamond, a MASSIVE amount of memory (like 300MB) and has a keyboard reminisant of the Universal. The only other thing for me with the diamond is that the battery life with average usage is only about a day, so you will HAVE to charge the damn thing at every given opportunity. Not normally a problem for me, as when I am at work it is either charging from the laptop or if I am in the car it will be charged there. However I need the phone for TOMTOM and I am not going to buy a holder for the Diamond when I am about to get a different handset, so its there that I switch back to the Kaiser. My problem is that the phone is so so good, packed with features, but in order to use them a lot on a given day you really have to be able to charge the damn thing when you are not. Personally, where I stand now, I would go for the touch pro, because if it promises to stand up to its promises of being every bit as good as the diamond on features, and has better battery life, and a really decent keyboard, its got to be a winner. Hope this helps Cheers Phill |

Just seen that snapface have updated to version 1.0, so going to download and try again. I do hope its not as crap as it was last time with the amounts of data I had! Oh I never did get to review face of mobile at the time. I tried it and it was pants. All it did was link to the pages of the mobile facebook pages! I was going to post back as I spend a lot of time at "work" on the laptop, however the network admin has decided to block anything with more than a few mentions of facebook, so I can only post stuff related to this topic when I am off this network, like I am now! How many people actually have this device? It looks good but really with the cost of an eeepc and a 3g card, you still have change to go and buy a win mo pc. Its concept is a nice one but in reality I cant imagine this going places, not unless they knock off around £500 off the price. How much are these retailing for at the moment? Cheers Phill |
