Hey Gfink, tusen takk for your pointers.

I have tried switching off the device twice. (Holding on for about 7-10 seconds, confirming the shutdown dialog). This procedure does not however reset the WiFi adapter to defaults. I still cannot connect to any networks. They are definitely visible as my eeepc can see them (size of antenna considered). Also I have played with an ad hoc network between my eeepc and the Atom_Life before, and now my Atom_Life cannot detect the network.

Anything else I can do?

Thanks again,

Leon.

Oooooooh. Pick me, pick me!

Right. This is what made me uninstall WinFLP. I also somehow didn't see that this post had been updated recently. I had this problem about three weeks ago.

When you logon, even with and administrator account, whether your password is wrong or not, infact try leaving it blank, sometimes, when you don't need it to, the machine always posts that it will not be able to log you on the domain because its not available or somesuch ridiculousness.

I came across this as I was about to present my work to my C++ group. Right there, all eyes on me, and of course on the crazy lil eeepc. No show. Word round the campfire is that they were not impressed with the eeepc cos it wouldnt logon. So I sat there, retraced my steps as to why this happened.

I then realised that I had logged onto my desktop, plugged my eeepc into the second nic on my desktop and with some network sharing, transfered my files across. I then logged off the eee pc, disconnected the ethernet cable and set off to uni. The authenticated session was somehow still alive, or set to alive on the eeepc. After googling around using the FILTHY lab machines we have, I was shaking my head in denial to what I was seeing.

Apparently this action of unplugging while authenticated causes FLP to be stuck in a domain of some sort. I therefore proceeded to randomly plug my eee pc to a uni terminal and VOILA! I could logon. Of course you can always press F8 and log in as any user under safemode, and then try and kill any domains or network connections. But yea, plug into any ethernet and somehow the NIC recognises that there no such domain and you can logon.

I am sorry I do not know the facts the specifics and what is actually happening inside, but I sorta understood it as a phenomenon rather knowing what files are being written or what networking is being changed. It was strange that it just suddenly worked after deleting any network associations, renaming workgroups and plugging and unplugging my eee pc onto a random network.

Excuse the epic post.

Leon.

*EDIT* The problem seems to disappear with XP Professional. This includes nlited versions.

QUOTE(Dade @ Dec 3 2007, 17:16) *
There is a slightly easier way to do this. First make the usb key bootable then copy the i386 folder and all its contents from the WindowsXP CD to the usb key. Boot the Eee from the USB key and when you get to the dos prompt type cd i386 so it looks like this E:\I386 replacing E with the drive letter of your usb. Next type winnt.exe hit enter xp should then start to install.

That errors too. With a Winnt.exe is a 16 bit application error. I remember cheering when I found this a suggested solution, but my celebrations cut short on error.

The was I installed my xp was rather simple. I plugged in an external HDD, dragged and dropped my nlited iso onto the external USB HDD, loaded up Daemon Tools, pointed to this .iso and started the instal.
Installation files are then copied to the SSD but obviously will be messy if you leave your current Windows folder on SSD. So in nlite, I made sure I renamed the install location to C:\INSTAL so as to simply delete the huge Winndows folder post install. Also redirected my Program 'Flies' tongue.gif to my SDHC. This ended up with a superfast slipstreamed nlited win XP. Works a charm.

Leon.

There is a very long winded way of doing it on google. But, the link the I read still said that the applications that do not install onto the removable storage, still wont install, for example visual c++ express. Currently experimenting with a 256MB swap, and it's doing ok smile.gif

Mines working fine too. It was working fine when i had win xp flp, also working fine with my nlited version. You might be missing some hardware support for it if you disable some items in the hardware page of nlite.
Also, I do have dx9, wmp9. If im not wrong, installing the ACPI driver from ASUS is paramount. Please make sure you run the asus instal .exes.

Well done nevertheless. I too would like to get a custom XP working. I know many users have too.
Also, I'm beginning to need that extra 512MB I think. For web browsing, uni work (excluding CAD or any 3Dness), I think 512 is enough. Key word being 'enough'. ASUS aint stupid. BUT, for example, mid my firefox 5 tabs and Pidgin 5 tabs IM-ing, I decide to check my mail, launch Outlook2007 :S Some random annoying error about memory. Sigh.
I understand this is a situation where one has outlook on the eeepc and is a silly concept esp. with screen size and size of .pst. But if the eeepc is your main PC smile.gif then you would like to use Outlook. Im selling my main machine and would be without a desktop PC for a longtime. Enter eeepc. Enter 1GB. smile.gif

Great thanks alot fella...Ive tried everything ,Just cant get xp to install no matter what i try.

Ive been pulling my hair out for the past few hours trying to figure it out.

If you could explain hot to get round the error matey that would be great.
Thanks alot

Well, for the meantime, I haven't got an answer. I am stuck with Windows XP For Legacy PCs. That iso seemed to work even with PeToUSB. The easiest way to sort this out is to get an external optical drive. That way, there's no need for emulation as the external usb drive can take a burnt iso made from ntile nlite. But, as I know, even I would rather fight and get this running properly. When Im done with uni, soon, I shall do this. P.S Google for "instal xp from usb" Many pages going in and out of MSFN forums lead to a solution. (I didnt catch the specific link as I was getting distracted from work, so I closed my browser and got back to work, same as now really smile.gif

QUOTE(J273 @ Nov 20 2007, 20:44) *
I've nlited a version of xp installs fine on my main pc but when i try and install it via a USB stick on the eee

it starts to boot then comes up with:

'File \$WIN_NT$.~BT\biosinfo.inf could not be loaded.
The error code is 18
Setup cannot continue.Press any key to exit.'

As anyone any ideas as to what the problem could be?

I indeed feel your pain. When I got my eeepc, I tried several versions of nlited XPs. That error was my worst enemy. Even full versions of XP wont instal. The conclusion I ended up with was that the error existed in how PeTo USB copied files to the USB stick. WinFLP however works, but I feel is lacking. It also has some unnecessary files that CANNOT be removed via add/remove programs.

Will explain more when I get home.

Not impressed. Eee pc wins this one for me :-/

The eee's keyboard, screen, overall setup, connectivity (3 usbs), many things seem superior for a very affordable price. Put it this way, I'm a student, presented the Eee pc and the N800 variants, I would spend me little monies on Eeepc. Seen how Xandros runs on it? Heh.

Min to krone smile.gif

Hm, I checked and double checked. If this slot is meant to be easily accessible/external, then its not on my white one. Cant see it.

Infact, iirc monos black eeepc was no different to mine, apart from colour.

Could people post their bios versions so that we get a fair idea on the age and revisions we all have. Mine is rev0307

Oh my what a few days it has been. I stuck with shop.bt.com and decided to be patient (thats after mono and P abandonded me). So I get a despatched email + an Amtrak UK tracking number on weds evening. I track, its collected and shipped down to South from Bolton.
In the morn, thurs, I track (bearing in mind that I was full of hope after BT email said it was a next day delivery) status = 'With Delivery Driver'. I think, all cool he'll be here...its Fri morning and aint got a thing.
Ordered two fast memory sticks and 8GB SHDC from BMC, no word either<--Royal Mail recorded mail <--. Never watched a postman so anxiously at 8.30am before. I also noticed three postmen bike past my house during the course of the day while I was on the look out for anything that moved outside the front door. So impressed after watching mono use his eee pc. My gaming sniper-eyes and ears are impressively tentative when expecting a knock on the front door so bad.

Well, I hope I get my goods later this morning.

P.S. Anyone want a paperback user manual and a driver DVD? Mono forgot his round mine tongue.gif (kiddin)

Oh well, if it does die, surely just boot off external media/sdhcs/etc thus keeping the device. SHDCs will get bigger n bigger.

The full manual doesnt extract for me either. Paul, could you be so kind to host it somewhere accessible?

Also, looking through the quick guide, I feel gutted that Im gonna miss the voice command feature that Xandros has with my favoured XP install. Damn.

Thoughts?
