Highly unlikely I think. I can't see how physical damage could be done. I suspect you carried the phone with you more while you were away - I find the temp of my Kaiser goes up just from being in my pocket more. I also had an issue where, if I've lost a data connection (I only get GPRS where I live), it won't recover it properly and ActiveSync says "Waiting for network". That state drains the battery quickly - presumably it's repeatedly trying to connect. Killing ActiveSync and/or the data connection forces it to re-establish. I had this issue on my Blackjack (poor battery in the first place) and in the end had to change devices. Do you actually reset your device from time to time? I power mine off overnight, but I know a lot of people now don't reset for days on end. I have my phone on a belt clip at all times, at home or away. It's only ever gotten warm on the two occasions my 3G connection has died. I tend not to reset very often. But doubt that's related since it's worked for months in that same way. I've reset frequently since it started playing up again. But it doesn't help. |

Well my Vario III's 3G connection has just died again. GSM works fine but 3G just dies when trying to get on the internet. What interests me is that the circumstances for this happening are identical. This happened to me first, shortly after getting my Vario III. I was away from home for a week in a place that had really bad phone signal. On returning home, 3G was permanently dead, and with my phone in 3G mode it was draining a full battery in less than 8 hours. After getting a replacement handset everything was fixed. Months of happy use ensued in places with decent phone reception. Now I've just got back from a week in Cornwall. Mullion is a lovely place, but phone reception is terrible. Anyway, after a week of little or no phone signal (3G or otherwise) my 3G is now dead again. Once again the battery is drained in 8 hours or less if I leave 3G on. I do wonder if the lack of 3G signal for so long has damaged the phone in some way? I noticed the phone getting very warm sometimes when I was down in Cornwall. My workmates Vario III is fine. His SIM in mine doesn't do 3G. My SIM in his does do 3G. So clearly not a network issue. Somehow, being without a 3G signal for a week has killed my phone! It still works fine on GSM, but it's damn annoying. Anyone else experienced similar? |

Got it on my T-Mobile Vario III. Bit of a cheek in my view. I can see me installing one of the alternatives. |

If you read my other posts on this subject, you would know that I often point out to people in this situation that every single cell phone is different. You could line up 10 kaisers and none of them would have exactly the same signal strength. Its the same with nokias, motorolas etc. Your test with your colleagues just proves the point. Sending your back for repair is a waste of everyone's time and you will be disappointed when it comes back with the same radio rom and same transceiver strength. So either insist they replace it and hope you get one with a stronger transceiver or insist on cancelling the contract as the device /network cannot do what you are paying them for... and switch to a network with better coverage. Great idea! So which UK network will give me 600 texts / 300 mins + 3GB data allowance + use my phone as a laptop modem + instant messaging for £28.50 a month with a HTC Kaiser? I've seen other reports from people that have sent their Kaisers off for repair. I'm led to believe by a friend inside the industry that most HTC's get their entire motherboard replaced. So new ROM, new Radio chip. So I think I'll take my chances. If it comes back and still doesn't work then I have more to support my case. If I don't even try a repair I doubt I'd have a leg to stand on. |

This issue has now been covered many many times. It is an unfortunate problem that is caused by the device thinking the weak 3g signal (that it can see) is strong enough to make and receive calls. If the signal is too weak, the device SHOULD auto switch to 2g but as with the Hermes and various other devices that use the same 3g chip, there is a problem in that it holds on to a too weak 3g signal. if affected, then switching to 2g is the only way to avoid interuption to your phone signal. The plus side is that you get good battery life with 2g, but its a real pain if you want fast data - but there's workarounds: there's cabs out there that allow you to fast switch between 3g and 2g. I disagree with that. If it was a weak 3g signal then my colleague that sits next to me would have the same problems at the same time as me on his Vario III. In fact his works perfectly. I did a SIM swap, his into my Vario III and mine into his. His still worked fine with my SIM (happily connecting up as HSDPA), but my Vario III still would not pick up the 4 bars worth of 3g signal that his was getting. To me this clearly says it's a fault on my Vario III and in this case has nothing to do with the strength of the 3g signal. I've rung T-Mobile and I'm going to get it sent off for repair. Sadly I'll have to wait a week before I do that cos I'm going away on business and need my tomtom, which won't run on the crappy phone they want to give me as a temp replacement. |

The Vario III has none of these problems, so it isnt a T-Mob problem. Sell the replacement Kaiser, get a Vario iii, happy days. lol My Vario III has exactly this problem. Am going to a T-Mobile shop today to try my SIM in one of their Vario III's to see if it's the SIM or the Phone or the Network that is at fault. |

You'll be pleased to hear their technical support guys couldn't call me back (because of this problem) so left a note on my account saying it was 'a known issue with your handset so you may wish to speak to us for a different model'..... Same problem here started last week (Sunday / Monday I think) and is still ongoing. If I drop the phone to GSM only it works. As soon as I set it back to Auto, the 3G icon appears, but I lose all of my connections. No phone, no text, and certainly no 3G. T-Mob said there were problems last week but they were fixed. Not for me they weren't! |

I have a 6GB Sandisk. On day 2 I found it had decided that none of my installed apps were present. So I formatted the card as FAT32 on my Vista PC and it's been working fine since. |

Tried installing it on my Vario III. Get a message telling me my trial has expired. This is wrong, since this is a brand new phone and is the 1st time I've tried to install it. This seems to be a very common problem judging by the MykeSoft forums with no known fix as yet. Oopsy. |

I got the Vario III on the Flext 25 + Web n Walk Plus tariff. Should've been £37.50 per month but I kept my existing 25% discount so it's costing me approx £28.13 a month instead. Very happy customer indeed! |

Has anyone found an MSN Messenger client for it? It seems really stupid that I'm paying extra for the privilege of being able to use Instant Messaging (on top of web n walk) and it's not even installed!! |

I couldn't wait so I've just paid the $10 upgrade fee. Sprite backup is a lifesaver, but the number if times I've woken up to a dead battery because I left it locked was starting to get very annoying. Thanks for the heads-up Paul! |

Does anyone else remember seeing a piece of software that let you control your Pocket PC from your desktop? The one I'm thinking of let you simply slide your mouse pointer off the side of your monitor screen and then you could start controlling your PDA with it. It looked great. Anyone? |

Wow! What a difference! This is fantastic. My internet performance has shot up. I'd always put the slowness down to being on GPRS (I'm on T-Mobile web-n-walk unlimited). This has made a huge difference. Thanks Paul. |

Hi - I've installed Tengo Thumb without any probs on my a701. It appears as an option for inputting text, but when I select it the option menu just drops off and I'm stuck with the default keyboard. I've tried setting Tengo as my default input method, but no joy. Anyone any idea how to get it to work?? This happened to me as well. It turned out that SPB Pocket Plus was sucking up too much system resource and was preventing Tengo Thumb from loading. Although nearly anything that starts running before you start Tengo Thumb can have this effect. I'm now really careful what I install to prevent it happening again. |

My first port-of-call would be Add-Ons World but you might need to email them to check compatibility. Perfect, they have this listed in the Mio A701 section. Battery Extender Thanks |

I'm looking for an emergency charger for my A701 for when I'm out and about walking. I've seen them for other phones. You just pop in 1-4 AA batteries, plug it in and it charges your phone. Seems like a great idea to me. I have loads of 2500mAh AA batteries at home which would keep my phone going for ages on a nice long walk if only I could find a decent emergency charger. I got one off eBay but it was crap quality and broke far too easily. Did the job for a couple of days though. |
