200ish i guess? not sure what price these things go for. seen some old 12" ibm thinkpads for around £200, but a pda type thing would be more portable.
it doesn't have to be a recent decive, as long as it does the job. all it needs to do is get pop/imap mail and have a little keypad so she can type a reply easily.

i'm looking for something with a qwerty keypad (slide / no slide) that i can check email on over wifi, i don't mind if i have to use a wifi card (best if it doesn't stick out though).

it has no need for phone functions. it will only be used to check email. can the blackberry's do this?

i'm getting it for mum, she's not the most technical minded person in the world and the device will probably spend a lot of time in her hand bag. a simple ui would be nice.

it doesn't even need to be new. i've been looking at some of the older sub notebooks as an option aswell.

any suggestions? have palm or hp ever made a pda like this?

i'm not too bothered about my emails being sync'd since i don't really check them on my phone anyway. but the address book is a big problem.
i recently got and tried out thunderbird and i must say i do like it a lot.
after poking around the net i've read in many places that it's not possible for tbird to work with activesync.
but is there a way for tbird to sync with outlook? i just need the addresss book to be the same... both programs seem to use pab files?
anyone got any ideas?

what's a good bitrate for a small size mp3? 2mb and under would be nice.
i tend to put wma's on my phone, because they seem to suffer less at high compression.
but i'd rather have more bass!
how much are 512 cards going for these days anyway?

so you don't need a username and password then?
i've tried dialing *99# with and without the initialization string and i'm just timing out after it checks the id/pw for about 20secs or so.
any ideas?

i'm using the c500 with usb cable to connect to laptop.
i've installed the htc modem driver and i have +cgdcont=1,"IP","orangeinternet","",0,0 in the modem initialisation string and i've created a dial up connection which dials *99#.

when i go to connect, it does seem to dial out and the icon above the reception changes to two little arrows, but when it's verifying username and pw it just hangs then disconnects me after a little while.
i don't actually have an username or pw set though  but from reading all the various connecting your orange spv to the net threads it never says that you need to set it.
any one know what the problem could be?
thanks in advance.

i'm completly baffled by as to how im supposed to get my laptop to connect to the net with my c500 via usb.
i've disabled active sync, but when i plug the usb in my phone still comes up in device manager, as a Windows CE USB device > Smartphone USB Sync.

can anyone give me a step by step? or link me to one. it would be greatly appriciated.i'm completly baffled by as to how im supposed to get my laptop to connect to the net with my c500 via usb.
