thanks for the instructions about the WinSxS folder Paul. Worked out fine for me until the end, there was still 200MB worth of sub directories in my winsxs.moved folder, when I tried to delete them the OS kept saying they were in use. Gonna try again with another new image soon. |

Great. but one problem... seems like it doesn't work on an O2Xphone T9 file.. cause it's called T9AW.UDB so maybe the format might have changed! |

If you have the Singapore/Malaysian version of the XPhone (the one without chinese) try changing your homescreen to one that DOESN'T have the O2 scrolling icon bar/launcher. The seems to have fixed the problem for the users here in MAlaysia
The default homescreen looks like crap anyway |

I have a system management folder under my start menu for my O2 XPhone. Maybe the manual's generic from HTC and someone forgot to change the contents to fit Orange's system configuration? |

The driver I got here
http://www.ppcw.net/index.php?itemid=1369&catid=90 Worked for my Tanager, when I got my XPhone I just plugged it in in modem link mode and it recognized it without any problems so I'm guessing that it should work. |

Well I don't have an Mio so I can't try. I don't think you should try to link to the file directly cause it's an ActiveX control that does the setup.... hmmm... are you using IE? |

Oh bloody hell that'll teach me to attempt translation without running through the pages Anyway after going through the EULA you'll come to a page with two buttons. If you don't have chinese fonts.. You'll probably only see one butotn marked 8380 and one marked 8390 just click on the appropraite one for your phone. |

hope no one is typing one the same time I'm doing it... here's the general translation.
1. Register as a JustMio VIP member 2. Connect the phone via USB, and make sure ActiveSync is STARTED and CONNECTED to your phone. 3. Click on the unlock link to enter the unlock website. 4. Read the instructions, legal mumbo jambo, etc. etc. Click on I Agree From the screen shots looks like the only link in the bottom of the page 5. Login with your JustMio VIP member if you haven't already done so. 6. OK This looks like a standard ActiveX install screen I guess Once you open the unlock page, the program will start automatically, nothing will be installed on your system. 7. Click Lock or Unlock to perform the action. Once you're done a mail message will appear to tell you your phone settings has been changed Wheter the message is on the phone or via your email I don't know 8. Once done the program will close, nothing will be installed to your system. 9. The program can also re-LOCK your system jsut come back to the page and select lock. 10. The program only partially unlocks your MIO, it doesn't completely unlock your phone. Should you hard reset your phone, your phone will be locked again. |

The Malaysian O2 XPhones does not come with a SIM Manager, which is the program which allows you to quickly copy all your contacts from the SIM card to the phone's Contact DB.
And I heard a LOT of users complain about it.. So as usual.. neceissity (did I spell that right?) being the mother of all invention... http://www.marauderzstuff.com/programs/m2s...py/default.aspx It should work on all SP2k3 phones, and only those cause it uses the .Net CF. |

I have no Buzzing on my XPhone (granted it is a different piece of hardware) but is the buzzing sound you guys are refering to same as what you'd hear if you put the phone close to a speaker when you're using it? I only get buzzing noise like that when I'm in a SEVERELY signal deprived area. |

Bored and generally wanting to test .Net CF developement... I made... SNAKE for Smartphone 2k3!!
This is very very VERY VERY VERY dirty code! Coded over a total of two nights. Get it here http://www.marauderzstuff.com/m2snake.zip Did I mention the code is sloppy.. but hey.. it's snake! You can control the snake with the joypad or the 2,4,6,8 key combos. Enjoy! |

OK. here's my non scientific observation of my O2XPhone's battery life.
First of all, I'm not a heavy phone user. Mostly my phone is on standby, and normal usage for me is that in the morning I use GPRS to check up some news feeds for about 15 minutes. First few days of getting the phone I was seeing that battery life dropped to about 60% when I got back from the office after a typical 9-6 day. I was disappointed yes, but I was used to short battery life on smartphones and carry a USB charge and sync cable for my notebook, and cigrette USB socket for my car. THEN I put a SanDisk SD card in it.... OUCH battery drained EXTREMELY fast as reported by other users of the HTC Voyager. THIS was worrying. Then I happened along this thread here http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=101420 Look for the post by UltimaSnake, he mentions REMOVING the IA_CID_Startup.exe from the startup folder which deactivates the IA Photo ID app, he mentions that it increases battery life. What he should have done is to mention that it increase battery life A LOT For the first time in my whole smartphone history (Tanager then this) I used my phone as an alarm clock. I removed the phone from the charger at 1AM and when I checked it a 1PM.. battery power was at 85%. So I'd guess the battery drainer isn't the SD slot but rather the CallerID program. But like I said this was not done on a perfectly scientific basis, I don't have a battery monitor program (anyone can suggest one?) I was just judging the values but staring at the bar in Setting->Power Managerment. But I'd suggest others also try it, remove the caller id from your startup folder and see what it does with your battery life. If indeed it increases your battery life by a LOT... someone needs to get in touch with IA... |

Well UltimaSnake, if you've used an SPV or if you ask any other Smartphone 2002 users that DING means that there was an error loading the MIDI file. Usually because it has too much instrutments, not a Class 0 MIDI file, etc. etc. Either way, it's because the MIDI file can't be played by the player used for Alarms. |

Just found another bug in the XPhone ROM, let's see if it exists in the E200 as well.
Quite simply the MIDI synthisizer that's being used to play the sound file you've selected for an Alarm is the OLD one.. not the new nice sounding 32 chords one, but the old Beeping one from the SPV/x days. Now this is TERRIBLY annoying. I wanted to use a Lengthy loud MIDI file as an alarm and I got was a DING (Load error when playing MIDI)... And I finally figured it out after some testing... Sigh... |

Well.. T9 works for me other than this little annoying fact.
Of course I cannot compare it with the E200 cause Orange doesn't serve us here in Malaysia. As both of them come from the same manufacturer I don't think there'd be any difference.. except when they have a different manufacturer build |

This bug is from my Xphone
WinCE build 13291. If you enter text using T9 let's say in Messenger - You enter TIRED and then you hit send WHEN the word is STILL underlined and you can toggle between choices. - The textbox clears but when you start composing your next message the first keypress always appends the previous word, in this case TIRED before your new keypress. - This does NOT occur as long as you make sure there are not underlined words anymore. Also still having severe interference problems with BT as reported for the E200 |

Hi there, I'm a Smartphone owner wannabe. Am waiting for O2 to bring it into Malaysia right now (http://myo2smartphone.com) They aren't saying what it is other than it's not a tanager.
Since I'm a developer and there's this whole issue of security certs, I'm just wondering.... would the decertification process listed for the Orange branded SPVs work for other Canary or Tanager devices?? Thanks! |
