I've made a link list to a lot of free games and programs for Windows Mobile 2003SE (so remember, if your E200 isn't updated to 2003SE, now would be a good time to do it).

http://www.vildmedmobil.dk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7

The link list is in danish, but the game and application names pretty much tell themselves, I think... smile.gif

Yes, indeed you can - but beware that your warranty will be invalid, as the Brightpoint ROM I've used is not supported by Dangaard Telecom, which is the danish importer of QTek.

You just need to follow the guide that's placed in this forum somewhere... it tells you how to create a super CID on your phone, which will allow you to install all ROM types. smile.gif

I will write a danish version of the method later on, on my webpage www.vildmedmobil.dk - but I haven't got the time at the moment. smile.gif

Yeah, the MS messaging & security feature pack part of the ROM, I don't expect that there's a separate installation to get these features, as they appear to be tightly integrated with existing features...

Yes, we have EDGE - it's wonderfull, and it's fast! The ping time still sucks big time, but once you've started downloading a page/picture/file/whatever you can definitely feel the difference.

The new ROM is drawing the picture faster than the old one - also scrolling is a bit faster.

I've noticed that frames are now working somehow - but I can't remember if it has always done that with the Windows Mobile 5.0... I just found out yesterday evening when accessing a page that I found out was built on frame sets. Oh sure, it works like hell - very confusing - but in some respect, it actually does work. Anything is better than the "you cannot display frames" message. smile.gif

I haven't got anything to test with, but my source is this page:
http://www.smartmobil.no/Article542.phtml

Scroll down almost to the end, where it says:

"Bedre Bluetooth støtte (Feature delen)"
- which means: Better BlueTooth support (features)

Below the header is a list of the supported BlueTooth profiles of the AKU 2.0 ROM. Among those listed, is Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP). smile.gif

Just ½ an hour ago, I finished updating my 8310 with newest nordic firmwaren.

about:
OS 5.1.195 (Build 14847.2.0.0)
Radio Version 413.1.04_02.09.00
RIL Version 2.002

ROM update versions: 5.1.195.14847

System information:
ROM version: 2.0.9.0
OPERATOR version: 2.5.311.2
Radio Version: 413.1.04_02.09.00

-----------------------------------------

What I've noticed of improvements so far:

- Newer, better and more extensive Connections Menu
- A bit faster overall in menus, though not much
- EDGE icon is now shown correctly without one having to hack the registry
- No "auto log off" for the internet when you press "hang up" button
- Microsoft Messaging and Security Feature Pack (gives you push email, Exchange 2003 kommunikation and more...)
- Better radio/antenna coverage and correct information shown
- Better BlueTooth support (now supports the A2DP profil)

There's propably some more stuff, but the main thing I was annoyed about is still an issue; with homescreens, you simply cannot choose anything but the "Standard" one for that specific homescreen, without the phone padding the picture down.

Something I noticed however is that you can't send pictures from the album, whether by Bluetooth or Multimedia. Is there a way to activate this? Thank you.

Not that I know of - I usually choose SmartExplorer for this purpose, so I don't really miss the oppertunity - it's pretty easy to tab between applications if you have the Task Manager on a shortcut key like I do. smile.gif

If the trick with adjusting multipress timeout that haddock26 gave doesn't work, try this:

1) Choose to write a new SMS
2) Hold down * until a menu pops up
3) Press 6 to choose the last item

4) Press 1 to choose the first item; choose no delay and check both check boxes/fields
5) Access the same menu again, but this time, press 2 to choose the second item (my words); press right Softkey (Menu) and choose "erase all" to delete all the words that T9 has learned; this should speed things up considerably

Done. smile.gif

Milan Svec >

It actually doesn't matter that much - as far as I've found out, the .mui files are only language packs. Which means that the one .mui file you have, is quite adequate - so it should work with just the few files you have. smile.gif

Except if you want to change language...

The old multimedia browser on the Windows Mobile 2003SE was way better than the one embedded in Windows Mobile 5.0 (in my opinion).

The old Windows Mobile 2003SE multimedia browser could show pictures and sound files from subfolders - and it was WAY faster to zoom in and out, as well as change pictures, compared to the slow nuisance found in Windows Mobile 5.0.

This guide shows how to port the excellent Windows Mobile 2003SE browser to your Windows Mobile 5.0 device (propably Smartphones only - sorry PDA-users).

The trick requires that you have access to a Windows Mobile 2003SE device, part from your Windows Mobile 5.0 phone.

1) Connect the Windows Mobile 2003SE unit to your PC using ActiveSync.

Copy the following files to your PC (they're located in the folder \Windows\):

Album.exe
Album.exe.0406.mui
Album.exe.0407.mui
Album.exe.0409.mui
Album.exe.040C.mui
Album.exe.0410.mui
Album.exe.0413.mui
Album.exe.0C0A.mui

2) One copied to your PC, make them a ZIP-file; this is necessary as Windows Mobile 5.0 will not otherwise transfer them.

3) Copy the ZIP-file to your Windows Mobile 5.0 device (i.e. QTek 8300/8310). Open your file browser on the phone, and unzip the ZIP-file - place all unzipped files in the \Windows\ folder.

4) You're done! - Now execute the Album.exe file in the \Windows\ folder smile.gif

Enjoy the speed and versatility of this picture viewer smile.gif

Best regards

EDIT => Go to the bottom of this topic for the exciting part!! smile.gif

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've spent quite some time now trying to figure out a way to enlarge the small caller id pictures on the HTC Faraday & Tornado devices.

Apparently noone, not even here on Modaco, has the answer.

For the ones who doesn't understand quite what I mean - the case is this:

In the "good old days" with HTC Canary and up until Typhoon and sister variants with Windows Mobile 2003SE, there was a little 3rd party application - and with this, you could assign pictures to your contacts. These pictures would be shown whenever you called or was called by these contacts.

There were several ways of displaying these pictures - framed in horrific GIF frames and the like - but most importantly; you could make pictures fit full screen!

For newer devices with Windows Mobile 5.0, there's no way you change the caller id picture sizes - or so it appears.

The caller id pictures are assigned directly now, enabling perfect syncronizing with Outlook for your PC, as pictures are syncronized along with the contacts now.

The pictures are shown during a call session, and even when reading an SMS from the specific contact.

But here the fun stops - because as stated, there is no way of enlarging these small pictures.

What we know...

- The picture sizes and templates can no longer be customized with PIT-files as with Windows Mobile 2003SE and previous.

- The small pictures are displayed as 72x86 pixels caller id photos

- When displayed during a call session, the size goes down to 48 pixels in width instead of 72 pixels

- This caller ID system is made by Microsoft; not a 3rd party vendor

- The program "CallerID" (the old program we used with Windows Mobile 2003SE and previous) was made by HTC. Originally it was made by IA Software, but they were bought by HTC.

- It is not possible to change/override the picture size in Outlook for PC either.

Interesting links

Smartphone thoughts:
http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/articles...ion=expand,9849

Microsoft - about personalizing with caller IDs on Windows Mobile 5.0:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/mob...nalization.mspx

A member experiencing a very interesting error:
http://www.modaco.com/Incoming-Call-screen...39-t239226.html
- This is interesting because it suggests that a layer technique is used for displaying the different elements during a call. Maybe a registry tweak could override these settings, then?

Now, I'm not tuff one for registry tweaking. I've found out bits and pieces here and there, but not matter what I throw at the registry, it doesn't change anything in regards to the size of the caller id pictures.

I've also tried to find the place where the pictures are stored after they're assigned as a caller ID picture; they apparently become a part of the Outlook core files!!

The next few days, I will try one last thing - porting the callerID application that is built in with the Windows Mobile 2003SE, to my QTek 8310. I don't expect it to succeed - so please, if anyone has a workaround, trick or anything else that may help the problem with the small caller id pictures, please let us know! smile.gif

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(this is the more exciting part...)

Update - porting CallerID from Windows Mobile 2003SE

I've ripped some files from my old SPV C500.

In the \Windows\ folder, I've copied all IA*.* files to a folder on my desktop on my PC.

These files could not be copied directly onto my QTek 8310, so I zipped them.

The shortcut that SPV C500 uses for accessing CallerID goes to the file "IA_Photo_Contacts.exe"

The files I've copied onto my QTek 8310 are:

callerid.cpl.xml
IA_Caller_ID.exe
IA_Photo_Contacts.exe
IA_Photo_Contacts.exe.0409.mui

They've been copied as a zip-file, then unzipped on my phone using the builtin file browser, then moved to the \Windows\ library where they're located on the SPV C500.

But - when I try to run the EXE-files, they fail to run - a component or something like that, is missing.

Update 2 => SUCCESS!!!!

I've now copied two more files to the \Windows\ folder:
IA_P_DspCID.dll
IA_P_Contacts.dll

AND IT WORKS!!!

I can now assign pictures in 176x200 pixels to my contacts!!

BUT - a problem remains.

They're shown in the call sessions, but not properly.

Apparently, they're displayed above the normal caller display - and ONLY on INCOMING calls, which means that you're still stuck with the ultra small caller ID picture when YOU make the call.

Update 3 - DAMN!

I've played around a bit, and there doesn't seem to be any way I can force the ordinay "call screen" to move down. I found of that choosing the vieweing type "Top center" would place my big caller picture where I wanted it, but a z-index layer problem occurs, as a white box is shown on top of my picture - which means I only get to see approximately the top 15 pixels of my big picture.

I've done some more investigation on the matter, and now it gets truly annoying and confusing.

Kingston makes two different miniSD-cards series; an SLC (Single Layer Cell) and MLC (Multi Layer Cell).

I still have my MLC-card, and it does not work with my QTek 8310 (HTC Tornado). Neither will it work with my SPV C500 (HTC Typhoon).

Or well; it DOES work a bit, in the sense that it only becomes a problem (big problem) when reading/writing big files.

However, one of my friends has managed to get his hands on an SLC miniSD-card from Kingston; it says so on the box that it's SLC, and it works flawlessly.

Well, for me - I just stick with SanDisk. I know they work with the HTC devices, I've never encountered a SanDisk that doesn't, actually. I'm tired of wasting money on cards that doesn't work because they're MLC and there's usually no way of telling with which architecture they're built.

It's also possible with the free BlueTunes:
http://www.modaco.com/content/forum/203212/http-www-modaco-com-index-php-showtopic-203212/

I've used it a bit for my SPV C500 and Sony Ericsson HBH-608 Akono headset, but the sound quality is terrible. Yet maybe better than nothing in some situations... smile.gif

This is not the application's fault, however - a device supporting the BlueTooth Ad2p profile is required - but there's no Windows Mobile phones that supports BlueTooth 2.0 currently, as far as I know... maybe the upcoming Samsung i310 will, I'm not sure though.

A woman living in my apartment complex has an 8 year old daughter; we're all together quite a lot, and she's spent a lot of time playing with my phone. smile.gif

Now, we're from Denmark, so although she can read, she doesn't read (or rather understand) english.

This means that the most funny games for her are arcade games with as little text as possible.

Today, I've got my brand new QTek 8310, but up until now, I've had the SPV C500 which is quite similar to the QTek 8100 in functionality.

Games I suggest

- Kevtris (free Tetris-clone; the best if you take my opinion)
- Cocoto (free demo; nice graphics and good gameplay - she loves this game the most)
- DoomSPV (free Doom; we all know it, but our youngsters have yet to discover the early sprite-based "3D"-shooters)
- Flux Challenge (free demo; nice graphics, good gameplay, requires quick reactions)
- Li-Nuggz X-Mas (a free game that's quite funny for all eages - even my girlfriends' 5 year old little brother fancy it)
- SmartPairs (free game; memory game with MSN emoticons)
- Smartphony (free game; a Tetris-like game with a twist in the gameplay - try it yourself, it's quite addicting)

You can find most of the mentioned games here at Modaco by searching.

You may also want to look here for a big list of free games/applications for Windows Mobile smartphones with WM 2003/2003SE - all desciptions are in danish, but their names pretty much tells themselves...:
http://www.vildmedmobil.dk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7

About hitech phones and kids

I also thought that a Windows Mobile or Symbian OS based phone would be too hard to use for a kid.

But the 8 year old girl I know has already picked up quite a lot, and is even able to change the voice commands I've assigned for my applications. She's added some to the games mentioned above, actually - I never use those voice commands as I can't possibly hit her highpitched voice level without sounding ridicilous... biggrin.gif

She can navigate through the File Manager as well; start applications and/or open files...

And of course, she's learned to use the SMS/MMS and camera functionality.

Is she bright or is this normal?

Well, this is always hard to judge when you're fond of the kid; I'd say she IS bright, but I'd also say that most kids nowadays are so familiar with consoles, PCs, mobile phones, weird remote controls for TV and stereos etc., that they can use far more advanced phones than a Nokia 3310.

Thanks a lot for the offer ! biggrin.gif - In the meantime, I went a bit nuts, and I'm currently focusing on developing my j2me midlet and PHP skills instead...

The few simple games in J2ME I've made can be found for download here:

Not much to tell - only "RainPhone" and "CarShooter" are finished.

Thanks to PPCPassion for cooperation - you've been VERY helpfull! smile.gif

I'm a bit busy, and a bit annoyed that I can't run the homescreens locally on my own phone (I'm still stuck with C500)... so I haven't made an analogue clock.

http://www.vildmedmobil.dk/index.php?side=601&v=202

That sounds very promising! smile.gif

OK, I will give it a shot. Please notice that I may need you (or anyone else with a QTek 8310 and the hunger for a GNOME style homescreen) on MSN Messenger one of these days.... smile.gif

Since I can't find anywhere with a bloody working alarm plugin, I can't offer an alarm viewing. Or well, maybe I'll ditch up the Richie M alarm plugin, I know it'll show the alarm - but the shortcut is a wrong one, as MS have changed their menu structure (stupid, stupid, stupid MS).

I'll send you a PB soon. biggrin.gif

Unfortunately, I haven't got the QTek 8310 anymore - I only borrowed it for a weekend from a friend (so I took the oppertunity to test out a lot of stuff)...

If I made an XML for the QTek 8310, I couldn't be sure it would work, as I don't have anything for testing...

Yip, the C600 (HTC Tornado) is VERY identical to QTek 8300/8310 (HTC Faraday). The only difference is, in fact, the missing WLAN component(s) in the Faraday device (and then some design details). They can even share the same ROM (but this does NOT enable WLAN on the C600, as hardware can not be installed via firmware update). smile.gif

The KevTris game works - but is not fullscreen... I put it there only because it works - I've considered making a translation of it all... but there's just so bloody much to be done... I've got an even bigger list for free games/applications for the HTC Typhoon/Feeler devices, and ouch I could spend a lot of evenings doing nothing but boring translations. smile.gif

Hi - I'm searching for an alarm plugin for Windows Mobile 5.0 devices. Or more specifically, HTC Tornado and HTC Faraday devices...

The RichieM alarm plugin works somewhat, only the redirecting seems to have screwed up on WM 5.0 as the shortcuts are altered.

The HIL won't work at all.

The Twyx LCD plugin jams when setting a ringtone for the alarm, on the QTek 8310 I've tried.

Anyone knows of an alarm plugin that will work with the Winodws Mobile 5.0 devices? smile.gif

I've written a list for free Windows Mobile 5.0 / QVGA games and applications.

The list is in danish - but you should be able to see what's what from the links. smile.gif

The links are in red.

http://www.vildmedmobil.dk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=435

More links are added continuously; all of them will work on any Tornado or Faraday device, but a very few of them are unfortunately not full screen.
