I have used Smartphones for some time now. I have just moved to a HP IPAQ 514 and I have a slight problem with my Contacts view when searching for a contact to dial. When I go into Contacts and press, say "B" for all my contacts with a B in their name, I see not only my memory/synchronised Outlook contacts, but also the SIM contacts as well. (I keep my contacts on both so I can swap my SIM card to a bog standard phone if I need to). I don't recall this happening with my VARIO. Yes, I can set my filter to only show Personal Contacts and the SIM ones disappear - till next time I go into Contacts Anyone found how to solve this problem? Thanks. |

I'm on one of those deals for my Vario and am in month 23 of my contract and am still getting the half price discount. Of course that will change when I upgrade to a Vario 3. Thanks for that. Can you tell me what your line rental was in the beginning and what it is now? During the 18 month contract, I got a reduction for on-line ordering or something that showed on my invoices as Loyalty discount (I was a new customer!!!) which disappeared after month 18. So I was paying £16.50 (inc VAT) but now £19.00 and they wanted to take that away. You don't by any chance, have a copy of the web blurb that spelt out the deal?? Cheers. |

I wonder if anyone can help. In early 2006, T-mobile had an offer whereby you got a vario or Compact on a deal that gave you 200 minutes plus 40Mb data per month. It was £38.00 per month, but apart from the middle 6 months, you got it at half price )plus another discount too, as I recall.) The question is this. I am 100% sure that months 13 - 18 half price deal continued "for life" or until you renewed. Can anyone confirm this or am I wrong and after month 18 it went back to £38.00? I fear I will have to trawl my archives otherwise. Many thanks |

The reasoning is that if T-Mo are deprioritising or doing something to HTTP traffic, this will prevent that as it won't appear that way to them. I've had no problem all day by the way using the tunnel method! P Ah. Understood. Seems to me that if T-Mobile were aware of the problem, then they should have twigged this one, though. In fairness, we have had no reported problems today although some roaming cones are still present. Just why deprioritising HTTP traffic would cause a roaming cone to appear is beyond me. It's just not fir. I pine for it to go away and for T-Mobile to spruce up their ideas so we could all cedar improvement. |

Looking at Pondrew's HTC phone list, I don't know about anyone else, but I can never remember the T-Mobile/O2 branded name for the various HTC phones. Any chance of someone in the know making a simple look up table - no pictures needed in alphabetical sequence simply saying HTC Device Other names Charmer MDA Compact II Magician M500 etc And could it be pinned? Mobile phones as well as Pocket PCs would probably be welcomed. I would do it myself, but I do not know the range - sorry. |

I have now got a SSH tunnel to my exchange server, and used Pocket Hosts to fool the ActiveSync client into going via the tunnel without giving me a cert error. Now let's see if it fixes the issue (which has been particularly bad for me today!) P I understand that you are opening a VPN so to speak, but how will this make a difference if you are still using T-Mobile GPRS. Surely that will be using the same airwaves as it were? What's the reasoning behind your work around as it escapes me for now. |

Further to my earlier postings on the roaming cone, 2 things. (a) My errant cone has now gone, but someone else in the company has inherited it! My MDA compact 2 is updating 100% now. ( From recent correspondence, I am assuming that no other telco apart from T-Mobile is suffering from these problems?? My top tecnical guy says that by removing the sim-lock, his phone is 100% Coincidence or urban myth? |

I'm confused, I was just pointing out that since my original reply in the topic saying I was having sync issues, everything has been fine. Just my experience... P It was the "Let's stay on topic please" I was on about as I believed that the thread was doing just that. Further information. The losing connection problem is also affecting the T-Mobile MDA Mail devices which are slightly different technology, I believe (???). So, yes, T-Mobile do seem to ne having some form of congestion problems as well as the other ongoing one of the Varios believing that they are on holiday abroad. |

Let's stay on topic please! I haven't had the sync problem since the original post btw... P Much as I hate to upset the main man, but isn't the topic "Problem with direct push on T-Mobile"? and isn't that what is actually in the latest correspondence? Determininig if it is just T-Mobile or also affecting other carriers seems relevant as does the fact that the devices seem to be resetting and that T-Mobile are pointing the finger at Microsoft. For business users who have chosen to implement Windows Mobiles rather than Blackberry devices, losing contact intermittently is a genuine problem that causes problems for the technology department and having a forum where we can see "we are not alone" and when someone gets a reolution is actually very important. I go further - there is no point in salivating over the latest slightly different micro-jump in hardware if the wretched carrier service is beginning to fail and get unreliable. Rant over. |

Can I home in on 3 points here please without hijacking the discussion. 1. The roaming triangle when the phone thinks you are roaming. I rang T-Mobile about this as some of my company's devices had stopped syncing. Tech Support said that they knew of this problem and put the fault at Microsoft's door who had "updated their software recently". Now just how they have managed to update my MDA Compact / Vario's firmware over the air without my knowledge eludes me for the moment, but the very helpful lady actually rang HTC and came back within a couple of hours telling me that as a temporary fix, to set the "Allow connection when roaming". (I had already twigged that!) However, I still have the conical triangle and, yes, I have reset, taken out the battery, etc. So why this has just arisen over the last few days is a mystery. (T-Mobile say it only affects a small number of devices.) 2. Device not connecting at times. We have a couple of users with this problem away from base at times although it does connect when they arrive in the office. This suggests that there is a T-Mobile fault due to reception or congestion in their area. 3. Sync cycle resetting from "as it arrives" to "manual". This has happened to a number of my users and I don't know why. Anyone else suffered or got an idea why? Lastly, are these problems only with T-Mobile or do any other networks have these sort of faults? (Obviously I am using Exchange Server and we have not made any changes to it to cause the current problems that only appear to be a couple of weeks old. ) Any help would be appreciated. |

Hi Chuckie Sorry I am completely lost as to where you are trying to point me! If I launch the Outlook client on the WM5 device, I can click: MENU, Tools and Manage Folders In here, I can select folders for sync'ing - but it only shows deleted, drafts, inbox, outbox, sent items (which is the only one I can tick). I have no other options! But I am 100% sure I have had this, as I moved emails from my inbox to subfolders! I am sure of it! Si I have 2 sub folders in my Outlook Inbox that also show on my WM5 device, so you are not imagining it. Check the properties on these folders in Outlook and also your Active Sync settings. In Active Sync / Options/ Exchange Server Settings, just check that your Email sync shows that it sees your sub folders. I know you may not want to sync them, but check that Active Sync makes them visible. Try ticking one of the sub folders for syncing just to see if it suddenly becomes visible on the WM5 device. As a last rsort, delete the connection from Active Sync and then remake it again. |

Thanks for bot replies. Will look at Active Sync 4.5, but I am not sure this will be the problem as the user gets her diary/email linked by remote Direct Push from our server and it is when she is remotely based the problems occur. Incidentally, both my Head of Technical Services and I (I use a MDA Compact II) have had to reset our devices a few times as they seem to have lost the Direct Push connection . Ah well, it's Microsoft, of course. However, I would be glad to hear if anyone else has had the initial problem I started the topic with and also if they have solved it. |

Two suggestions as this has happened to me before with Smartphones and PDAs. 1. Try a different USB port if you have one. 2. Remove the connection from the Active Sync devices and then let it remake it from acratch - 2 minute job. This may work and both are worth trying. |

The sub folders are not Personal Folders are they? Are they definitely sub-folders of Inbox itself? |

I received a cry for help from one of our Vario users. Their email said "I have noticed recently that appointments 'disappear' from my Vario. E.g. Last week I was checking the time of an appointment that I had this Friday but my calendar showed there to be no appointments after all (but it seemed to be there on the server.) The appointment 'appeared' again when I was trying to put another appointment in my diary for that date. This evening I looked at my calendar because one of the appointments had been cancelled for Friday so I went to delete it only to find the date to be empty again. I checked another date at random and found that the appointments for that date had 'disappeared' as well but not for the day after that. Have you had this happen or anyone else? Or is this just a glitch. If it had appeared on my PC and not at all on the Vario I would have said that it''s because I hadn't synchronised it, but the fact that it appear and then disappears discounts that idea." We are using Microsoft DirectPush and so far only this user has found a problem. I can think of many reasons outside a technical one (her secretary could have deleted an appointment by mistake, discovered it later and reinstated it etc) but just wondered if anyone using Windows Mobile 5 and Direct Push had encountered anything before I tell her it is probably down to User Error. Many thanks. |

Just installed Batti. Great piece of software but one major problem. It overwrites my left hand soft key with the heading "Notification". Tap that and you get the status of your battery. But I don't want that permanently grabbing my left hand soft key. I have much better use for that. And "Notification" as a heading make me think I have a message. Granted, the soft key reverts to its other uses in specific applications, but not on the home screen. Have others go the same problem. I am using the current version of Batti [at least, I downloaded it from the sticky thread header today] |

The first step to take, as you are giving notice, is to export your contacts from Outlook to a csv file and then email it to home from work. At least you will then have them safe and secure. Put Outlook on your home PC and import. |

Like the rest of you, I was most underwhelmed by the Orange Animal plans and T-Mobile blew them away for value. But have you checked out the latest Web deals? For £30 per month (18 months), you get 300 minutes plus a further 150 minutes per month off-peak (to Orange phones) or 24/7 to Landlines or cross-net if you order a 3G phone. Plus 100 texts. But wait...........certainly for this month, you also get a further 200 minutes cross net 24/7 & 1000 texts per month for the 18 month period making a whopping 650 minutes cross net 24/7 & 1100 texts for £30 per month! Data charges would be on top Now that is not bad at all. OK, so the choice of 3G phones is not that brilliant, but the Nokia 6233 isn't bad (sells well on Ebay too!) and I can use the sim in my C500. Seems like a good deal to me. |

It always worked on the earlier release of the ROM. It was certainly more convenient than going through the program option. Bug or feature? You decide!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

We have just received a batch of varios with the new ROM update (battery meter on top line etc). Having set these up for corporate use, I have noticed that we can get Activesync working perfectly using the programs option from the home screen, but pressing the top lefthand button that gives you the choice of Bluetooth on/off, wi-fi on/off etc does not work with the Activesync icon. It remains greyed out. Has anyone else noticed this or is it a faulty occurrence on the Vario that I have just had set up? |

I've recently suffered a hardware disaster in which I lost the .pst file (all my Outlook data) on my PC. However, I do still have a bit of it on my O2 XDA Mini S. Is there a way I can recover this to my PC? I think when you set up a partnership in ActiveSync with a new device it gives you some options about combining, ignoring or overwriting duplicate information on the device and PC, but I don't think none of these options will (at the first sync) copy the data on my device to the PC... Please help! Thanks PST files are Personal Folders that don't usually in corporate environments - at least not ours - sync with Mobiles. However, you can be assured that if your contacts are on the phone in a folder that corresponds with your Contacts Folder in Outlook (Corporate edition), your phone will copy to the network/PC once you have made a new partnership. However, TAKE CARE. as one of the options in sync is the option to replace all on your phone with what is on the PC, you MUST be 100% sure you won't wipe out your copy on the phone. Before trying this, check with TESCO and see what offers they have on Andrex. |

I am obviously missing something here. I followed the link to the Camera database site in the 1st post which reads Download the latest Camera database from http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/uksafetycameras.php, and copy the Gatso CSV file from the CSV/Other directory to Program Files\CamerAware\Databases in the location you installed the application . How do I actuall get to CSV/Other directory from the http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/uksafetycameras.php screen? Sorry, a bit thick today probably. |

Has anyone else had this problem? When I got the Vario, I am sure that I set the password to come on if I didn't use the device for 12 hours. (I can't be bothered with having to set the second phase every time I use it as a phone). But it comes on at random times, or so it seems. I come back to the device after half an hour and it asks for my password. It then doesn't ask the next time, say in an hour. Then it does again. I have actually had to disable it as I get fed up with its inconsistency. Is it me or has anyone else had trouble? |
