Don't suppose anyone has time to post their original (or working) HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\RAI\:MSStart registry entries? unsure.gif

Probably need to do a hard-reset to get them back-I can't see the full value Text using Total Commander.

I am looking to purchase some BT headphones. However, before I do so, I have a few questions:

1. How is the sound quality? Same as the default, corded headphones or worse?
2. If worse, how much worse? Are there sound distortions? Do higher pitched sounds create a tinny distortion?
3. What brand BT headphones do you have? I had the Motorolla stereo headphones, but it really sucked because the sound quality was not very good on my MDA and there was sound distortion. I sold my headphones soon afterwards.
4. Any other issues I should know about?

Motorola S705 - works like a champ, plus you can choose what kind of cans to use as it sports a 3.5mm jack.

Philips VOX 340 - haven't tried this on the Shadow yet.

How do I do a hard reset on my Shadow? Will I lose any installed T-Mobile apps if I do this?

Start > Accessories > Clear Storage

The T-Mobile apps will be re-installed after the hard reset.

It was turned off. I had set an alarm to go off 9:30 everyday, but i turned it off and it still goes off. Not only that it shows two alarms going off at the same time. I choosed dismiss but then the next day the same alarm will go off. Also am i only able to set one alarm? or multiple? Thanks in advance

I believe the Shadow suffers the same problem as the Excalibur/Dash did with the message queue not cleaning up when dealing with alarms.

I also had the exact same issues. However, all my files were in .wma format so I went ahead and converted them to .mp3 format.

(1) Coreplayer 1.1.1:- works very well with mp3 (I'm not sure about AAC) but completely sucks with wma (it skips after about a minute). It is also fast and only takes about 1-2 seconds to switch songs. Also, AVRCP works well (without skipping) with mp3 files but has the latency issue (it just stops working after sometime. I wonder why)

(2) Windows Media is horrible on the shadow. In shuffle mode, it takes forever to change to the next track and with AVRCP, the music goes blank after sometime. It also has the latency issue.

(3) PocketPlayer 3.2: I hated myself when I tried this player. It is dead slow (almost unresponsive) on the Shadow and when it's running, the phone becames very slow. AVRCP also didn't work for me and also, disables AVRCP on both WMP and CorePlayer when it's installed.

(4) TCPMP 0.81 :- Was very good with all types of media. However, AVRCP doesn't work on it cuz it uses the Widcomm Bluetooth Stack.

Therefore, till there's a registry hack, I'd recommend converting all your media to mp3 and using CorePlayer. The only issue was the latency of the AVRCP.

For Smartphones use, I use AAC exclusively as it has the best sound to size ratio, especially at low bitrates with HE encoding (32 kbps). Getting the same sound quality using MP3 I'd have to use at least 160 kbps; which would significantly increase the filesize (though I haven't calculated it out yet; that's my next project.)

I currently have PocketPlayer installed on a trial, and it didn't break AVRCP for me-but its feature set and functionality is so counter-intuitive it's ridiculous-I couldn't get it to shuffle.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's frustrated with its (lack of) media capabilities. tongue.gif

The Shadow does stand-by well, but once you start using it you can watch the battery meter go down. On mine, the combination of streaming internet radio via EDGE to stereo bluethooth headphones brings up the battery recharge alert after around 2.5 hours. They really should've shipped it with a 2nd battery; and to really make up for battery-life, a separate plug-in battery charger.

I'm streaming Stereo Bluetooth using CorePlayer, and I'm down 50% after 3 hours. Thankfully, I was able to grab a Moto P790 portable charger for $5 (I bought 3) to keep things going.

The ScreenShield came, a bit more convoluted install process than I've run into before -- spray both sides with a special liquid, put in place, don't use device for 24 hours while it 'sets' (and any liquid that seeped inside the Shadow dries). Good thing I ordered 2, as the first one got trashed.

Looks great though. At $12 (the price jumped $2 since I purchased at $9.95), it's overpriced -- and I'd say at least 2/3 the cost for the decal is the packaging -- big sleeved box, spray bottle, rubber squeegie. Others brands should be out before long... Now the wait for Krusell or someone to come out with a custom leather case rolleyes.gif

I wonder if Piel Frama or Vaja will do a Juno/Phoebus/Shadow case.

Right now I'm using a Swiss Mobilty case-the Shdaow slides around, but it's got room for licenses, credit cards, etc.

I don't yet have a Shadow(thinking of getting one), and have never used shuffle mode in any case, but I'm surprised about this. From everything I've read, the Shadow is supposed to have better performance than the SDA and MDA, due to more memory, and WM6 (instead of WM5).

Have others also had this problem?

I don't think TCPMP includes AVRCP, so of course that wouldn't work.

Let us know what you find out.

With my HP6515, TCPMP accepted AVRCP commands (mainly because it used the Widcomm BT stack, vs. the MSFT BT stack.)

I am finding that more memory helps only to a limited degree; namely, you can load up scads of apps. In terms of actual device performance, I haven't found it to be all that helpful.

So far, CorePlayer and TCPMP seems to be the most stable and usable-but when compared to WM5, WM6 isn't such a hot performer, especially given that all of the devices I used (execpt for the HP6515) are 200 Mhz OMAP's.

I have found that Media Players on the Shadow are seriously challenged, and I'm looking for some solutions. I am coming from an SDA and MDA, and I didn't have these problems with those devices. My library has close to 2,000 tracks encoded in AAC format.

Here's what I have run across to date:

(1) Windows Media will play the tracks, but it takes hours for it to process the library, and in shuffle mode it takes 30 seconds or more to play the next track. AVRCP works to switch tracks, but still has the latency issue.
(2) CorePlayer 1.1.1 takes a few minutes to process the tracks, and it takes 8 to 12 seconds to switch tracks. AVRCP also works, with the same latency times.
(3) PockePlayer: I can't seem to get it to shuffle, and it also appears to be response-challenged.
(4) TCPMP 0.71 works fine in shuffling, but AVRCP doesn't work.

One thing I'm tempted to try is to switch the format into WMA to see if the media format is a causal element.

Somewhere I recall seeing some posts about identifying what is in the startup and removing processes to try to improve performance. I'm also looking to see if there may be some registry hacks that may ameliorate the above issues.

Same here. I suspect the problem is that there is too much going on in the device for such a weak battery. Perhaps T-Mobile wanted to save $0.05 on the battery.

My SDA is more responsive than the Shadow. I have yet to find a decent media player for this thing; Windows Media took over 2 hours to process my library and it takes 30 seconds to shuffle tracks. CorePlayer is better, but not by much. TCPMP seems to be the only thing that works well, but it can't do AVRCP with the Shadow.

And yes, the battery life is horrid.

Don't bother trying high unless you're on 3G or a CDMA network-GPRS doesn't have the bandwith to handle a XM High (64k) stream.

"The pin 4 and 5 short hack will work-there's examples here on modaco that talk about that."

Hi guys,

Judging from the above, you might be able to answer my question.

I've got 2 C500s & just bought an iRiver mp3 player but I don't have a car charger for it (a bit off forum but bear with me).  Basically, what I want to know is, since I can connect the mp3 player to my pc using the C500 USB cable (although it doesn't seem to charge through this cable), does anyone know if I'll be able to charge the mp3 player in the car with my C500 car charger?  I just don't know if the wiring inside the plugs is different (i.e. whether the live is on a different pin).

I would try it but I once did a similar thing with the charger from an O2 XDA into my HP iPaq 2210 & my iPaq whistled, popped & had to be repaired (lucky I had insurance).

If anyone knows the answer to this, I'd be grateful coz I don't seem to be able to buy a car charger for the mp3 player & my glove box is full of the bloody things for all my gadgets  biggrin.gif

Cheers

Dan

USB is pretty much an industry standard and is electrically simple: +5, data+, data-, ground---the mini-B adds the new pin 4 (USB-to-go) with pin 5 being moved to be the ground. I would suspect that if there's enough current and they let pin 4 alone, it SHOULD work. Whether iRiver inline-fused thier USB interface is another matter should they have done something totally off-the-wall: does the iRiver use the same USB to mini-B cable the C500 does? And does it charge the unit when you use it to move stuff to the iRiver?

Hi again,
I've had the phone on the charger overnight, so I'm assuming that the battery is OK...but I have no way of knowing for sure.  If I try to do a hard reset while it is plugged into the charger, the black pop-up screen never shows up--it just goes to the Audiovox splash to the Windows Mobile splash and then hangs.

Mmmm... upon reading the manual it says that the LED in the upper-left corner showing a steady amber means the battery is charging.  Mine is showing steady amber.  Perhaps the battery itself is damaged and won't charge?  Wonder if it's worth investing in a replacement battery at this stage, or just get a new phone--although I'd be hard-pressed to find a better one, IMHO.

Any further advice?

TIA.

Not all channels are available via that gateway. I noticed that the high-speed cut out quite a bit while I was using a raming partner of my carrier-haven't tried it back in my home market to know if that's an abberation.

i dont think so, but you can download betaplayer and it will play your acc/m4a files without converting anything....plus i think betaplayer sounds better than wmp10 because wmp10 doesnt have enough bass, the highs are stronger and it hurts my ears....in betaplayer you can use the equalizer to adjust the sound.

I'm finding that betaplayer gets flaky with playback-it likes to stutter way too much for my liking. Now, if WM10 can handle AAC streams with the right codec/container, then I'm happy-and I though some folks have done this.

I kind of got curious at the idea of adapting the car cigarette adapter rather than the cable and as you say it indeed only has 4 pins. but when you think about it, the extra pin on the end of the usb must be connected to something at the lighter plug. So I have justed this second shoved some silver foil (not recommended!) between the ground pin and the one next too it and voila it bloomin works, though you do need to plug the lighter adapter in to the car and THEN the plug into the mini.  Now I have a car charger and a sync cable all in one with very little modification, I will be soldering the pins in a moment , the siver foil is a dangerous idea and was only used for test purposes, hey I actually have some of that conductive paint they sell for repairing the heated windscreen on the car, I wonder if that will do the trick! smile.gif
*

What did you exactly do? I'm not seeing what pin you shorted to ground? And what are you modding-the regular USB end or the car charger?

Now If I can whack the shortcut that autostarts this, then we're home free.
