QUOTE(mallen @ Feb 23 2005, 15:43)
I, like many others I guess, suffer from a rubbish signal in the office at work.  I have recently got my hands on an external glass mount antenna, with cables.  Does anyone know if it's possible to connect this directly to the back of the SPV?  I sit quite close to a window so I was thinking I could mount this outside, cable back to my desk, and connect directly to the back of my phone.  Has anyone managed to achieve anything similar?

Unfortunately my C500 is in for repair at HTC again.  Dust behind the screen - AGAIN!  Due to this I can't check what sort of connector is on the back of the phone.  Does anyone know whether I can connect an FME female directly to the phone, or what adaptor, if any, I would require?

Thanks Folks

Hi

The SPV-M1000 has the same connector, so you need one of these

Was your friend using a Cingular SIM in his RAZR ?
What comparison did you make with the SMT5600 ?

It is possible for a phone to have less reception than a similar model but it sounds like you are going to have to decide whether to take a chance on another SMT5600 phone or change phone models as you only have a few days left.

If you are already selecting the Cingular network manually and not receiving a strong signal from their local base station then I'm not sure that a Cingular SIM will make a big difference.

You could try asking AT&T if they could unlock the phone so you could test a Cingular SIM but I don't know if they will do that or not.

I had my SPV-C500 replaced by orange because or poor reception, the new is greatly improved.

Hi psneddon

Yes they did a straight swap, the phone is just over 2 months old, and I don't have orange care.

From you description, of the reception going up and down like a yoyo, I think yours is ok, My new one does that, with the old one the signal did not change very often, and it spent most of the time displaying "searching...", "no service" or "Denied, no service...", the signal changed very rarely.

Cheers

Hi

Since owning my SPV-C500 the reception has always been very poor, I also bought one for my wife and that’s just as bad is mine. I had thought it was all C500’s until my mum got one on Monday. Hers is excellent, whilst mine is stuck on searching or no service hers has 3-4 bars.

I’ve spoken to orange and they are sending me a replacement.

Cheers

I found it press key 9 to toggle full screen on and off, but what do the other keys do, 4, 5 and 6 seem to lock the phone up completely causing me turn the phone on and off.

There are lots of aerials you can buy. One that springs to mind is the indoor signal enhancer sold by Orange. Check out the  Orange Shop

Hope that helps

Do you know does the Indoor Signal Enhancer boost by re-radiating signal, or is it an external aerial that actually connects to the phone?

Isn't there a standard aerial socket on the back under the rubber cover?

Sadly the connectors are not standard.

Hi

This is my first post

Vie just got a SPV-C500, with the intention to use it as a weekend end phone, I currently use a SPV-M1000 in the week.

The M1000 has much better reception than the C500. So to combat this can anybody tell me where I can buy and external aerial for the C500.

Cheers
