this looks suspiciuosly like the imate ultimate 7150...the insides might be diffferent but exterior wise it looks very similar to the 7150 (and we've seen plenty of pictures of that device)

that will let me check what websites will look like on a pocket pc?

i remember t-mobile had one on their website a while ago but it's no longer there. i really want to check that some of the key websites i use can be viewed properly on a windows mobile ppc, before i commit to upgrading from my smartphone.

For the above poster who has the i320n it looks like someone has finally got around to making a silicone case for it...check out ebay for the item. Still nothing for the standard i320 though sad.gif

As for the custom cases, i find them a bit boxy for my liking too, but i will def investigate the ipod case idea!

...are non existant at the moment!

I have seen a couple of generic cases on expansys which they suggest will fit and there are a few badly fitting foldover cases available on ebay but nothing specifically for the i320.

I did email Brando in Hong Kong but they have no plans to produce anything for the samsung sad.gif I would love a silicone case or a diary style leather foldover!

Although for me it's probably too late as i've completely ruined mine. Makes me wonder about the build quality..i have paint coming off a button already and the back of the phone (battery cover) is covered in light scratches from where it's been placed on desks...

Thanks for that!

I wentdown a different route in the end. The funbox application on the i320 is actually able to handle Java apps - i was able to download Opera Mini via funbox (once i got my WAP/Proxy settings straight) and got much better results with the way Opera works...

Hey Paul,

Was wondering if you had managed to get the Opera Mini web browser to work on the i320? There doesn't appear to be any midlet manager application so i haven't been able to load it!

Should be getting my screen protector in the next few days so will let you know how it fits...

I tested that reg tweak on my i320 btw, and it got rid of the tone you were talking about.

Thanks mate, I'll give it a go later on and report back.

Goodluck with it all, hope it takes off for you...you're a brave man and i admire you for it!

Doh, you're right, i'll look into it further!

I've used an Excalibur already, but yes, I will be getting one in review.

It feels quite small (obviously bigger than the i320), performance seems OK, but I still think it's ugly ;)
Not sure if that's a complement or an insult smile.gif

P

Thanks Paul, I'll give it a go!

LOL...the last comment was meant as a compliment mate! I've said in the past that i felt the site wasn't my first port of call for new info - these kind of threads will change that for sure.

BTW Are now doing this full time?

So far as I can find thus far... NO!

How stupid is that?!?!?

This is indeed rubbish! In your opinion, is this something that a firmware update could resolve?

I've not looked for accessories yet... to turn off that beep:

Start -> Settings -> Phone -> Extra Tones -> Connect Tone -> Disable

HTH smile.gif

P

Hmmm...this doesn't seem to work for me - i still get the beep when i press the green call button?

Paul, do you expect to get the Excalibur in for review? I love the dimensions of my i320 but if the Excalibur feels small in the hand and the slower processor does the job i might drop this samsung.

By the way, i'm liking the 'ask paul' threads...the best thing to come out of modaco for a long time! smile.gif

Paul,

Have you been able to find any accessories for this device...i have had mine for about a month and it's only now that a screen protector and slip over case have become available via ebay - in that time i have managed to scratch mine something rotten!

Also do you know how to turn that annoying beep off when you make a call?

Yay! You've snuck in before msmoblies has managed to get this up on his site...well done! Having a dedicated 'news' person is paying off...

The more of this i see the more i like it. Plus, it sounds like the qwerty version of the samsung i320 won't be available anytime soon!

Update:

Arne Hess from 'The Unwired' wesite believes that the second variation on this device will be released by Samsung in Germany.

Can't decide which styling i like better!

Yep, i've experienced similar problems...with ZoneAlarm on i was unable to sync my smartphone (sp5m) with my PC (running XP Pro with SP2) using any version of ActiveSync - i tried versions 3.8, 4.1 and 4.2! What was happening in my case was that the PC was seeing the connected phone as another internet connection and then hanging at the sync stage (where the green spinning circle appears).

As soon as i turn ZoneAlarm off, all work as expected...funnily enough i was able to have both AS and ZA coexisting on XP Service Pack 1? I've read somewhere on here in another thread that if you make some setting adjustments to ZA it can eventually work but i have not had the chance to try it yet.

- How often do you visit?

I usually visit roughly once a day

- Where on the site do you visit?

News & Help and Advice

- What do you come for?

Mostly to get help

- What i like:

People are always willing to help and point you in the right direction

- What i don't like about the site:

The site has become very over crowded in my opinion. There is too much going on, on each page and i have found searching to be increasingly difficult as the site grows. Typical example of this was when i was looking for the GPRS setting a few weeks back...it just felt like too much work getting to them.

Breaking news on this site isn't great. I used to visit Modaco alot more in the past because of the news articles. These days i tend to go to msmobiles and coolsmartphone, just because those guys are so much more quicker off the mark (although i do understand that we all have jobs and no one is paid to develop smartphone communities). Again an example of this is the Samsung SGH-i320 - very little has been said on this site about the device...this is particularly disappointing especially as a number of members here have handled the device. Over at msmobiles i have seen a full set of pics and detailed talk of the devices performance - that is the difference.

On a smaller less significant point, i have found the site to be sometimes a little cliquey. It's difficult to explain but i just feel sometimes that if you are not a regular poster or you are a newbie that you are treated slightly dismissively.

Sorry if this comes across so negatively in the light of so much praise above but it is only my personal opinion at the end of the day.

Hey All!

Glad to hear you all had a great time at the modaco event...free C600 must have surprised a few!!! Reminds me of when microsoft used to give out devices to mvp's at it's mobius events...

Anyway, i'm really interested in the samsung SGH-i320 and after seeing pics of the device at the event i'm more confused then ever...there now appear to be three variations of the same device! Up until i saw the Orange offering there was the rounded version with square keys (i320) and the other one (i320n i believe) with a more square design and the motorola q style keypad...the Orange version now seems to be a mixture of both (square shape and square keys) and looks like it's got UMTS capability (i'm sure that thing in the top right hand corner is a front facing camera)...what's going on guys? Did anyone get the chance to handle the device long enough to give an informed opinion?

Cheers.

This site shows two variations of the device...can anyone confirm they are actually the same? I prefer the squarer looking one with the slanted buttons.
