And Vodafone's - but it's still better than the 30Mb they were offering! Not that they offer this to everyone by the sound of things... The 250meg tariff is only available on one plan, I think its something like the £45+ p/m panther? It isn't available on others. Still, the (truly pathetic) 30 meg is adequate for me - its enough for a month of MSN, Facebook and the odd other web page when I'm nowhere near a computer. |

Are you in a weak signal area? I am going to guess your device is trying to use a weak 3g signal but can't manage it. Try switching it down to gsm only for a while and see what it does. Everything you are saying is default behaviour if the device does not get an immediate confirmation from the network that the message has been sent. Generally good 3G signal at home and at the office, but I'll switch 3G off for a few days, see how it handles. Ta |

It might be the Orange customisations. Other than the annoying behaviour of saving unsent messages in drafts (grr) the other symptoms you're describing are not normal. Do you have any issues with signal? It's extreme but can help if you do a hard reset too. I've tried hard resets, doesn't make a difference. This is the second dual I've had, the first one had major issues with call quality. This one has only recently (in the last week or so) started to do this in a big way though, although prior to that I had plenty of people saying they'd only received part of the message. |

I'm starting to get wound up with the way WM6 handles texting, unsure if its specific to the Niki, or the Orange customisations. I'm running the standard Orange customised firmware, and this is a list of the problems - - it regularly just saves messages into the drafts folder rather than sends them - takes ages (well maybe 10-20 seconds) to respond when attempting to send - keeps a message in the outbox until I told it to send - it will say "sending failed", whilst the recipient has actually received the message Any when there's no signal, why doesn't the SMS system just keep the messages in the outbox until there is a signal? It just says "message can't be sent" and stick the message in the drafts folder. Is this just standard windows mobile? If so, its pretty poor - Symbians messaging systems work absolutely perfectly in comparison. |

Picked up a Dual Slide yesterday, overall its okay, but I've got one huge gripe. The EQ/Booster needs the wired headset connected - it will not work with an A2DP headset connected (I'm using a pair of Jabra BT620s). I've had a browse for hacks related to this, and there's nothing obviously out there. Any suggestions? |

QUOTE(missingfox @ Nov 21 2005, 14:34) The C550's great for me, i got it for £109 as i traded an old Nokia 7110 in at the Orange Store. I don't know how ORange are making any profit on them when you consider the 512mb cards cost £45ish. 512meg Mini SD cards - best price I've seen so far is £25.69 from SVP.co.uk - quite a good supplier. Orange will effectively be paying less for them as well, so I don't think there is a problem with Orange making money on these. |

Music is one of the big things for me - my SX1 has a 512meg MMC, of which 420 meg is taken up with audio (Ogg Vorbis format). |

Seen on the orange web site that the C550 can now be had with a music kit - 512meg SD card, hifi connection cables, etc. has anyone seen the hifi kit, and know what is actually contains - is it 3.5 mm adapter and also stereo phono connectors? Every point that I think I know what phone I'm going to get next, the goalposts get moved. Its pretty cool, the competition in the market for music phones! |

I've seen a few reviews of the C550, and whilst they comment about the camera, it doesn't really get that much of a mention. Is it really only a little better than the C500? If so its a shame, but then again, this is a ridiculously cheap phone for the overall spec. |

QUOTE Not at all convinced memory cards can get fragmented in the same way as harddrives, as data on hard drives is laid down in a serial manner, and fragmentation occurs when you start to delete files previously laid, and small 'data holes' appear that arn't large enough for the OS to see as empty space. This also means one file maybe spread over a large area of the disk, which results in a slowdown due to the mechanical nature of the drive... RAM is different because everything is addressed in a parallel manner, although I guess it all depends on exactly how it is addressed and controlled so I may be wrong after all that :? Well at least it's a thought Basically you are right - whilst a memory card can get fragmented, performance isn't an issue, as (in theory) access to all parts of memory is done at pretty much equal speed. |

QUOTE All (digital) cameras do that... More accurately, all cheap cameras with lousy lenses do that. Which invariably means cheap digital cameras (camera phones included). The lenses on cheap disposables always seem to be better/sharper. Wierd. |

I don't see why the Java games should suffer the same gapi problems, its a totally different subsystem.
There are some quite good games for Java - Colin McRae 4, Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow, Rainbox Six 3, 3D pool. All on my Moto V525 though. Haven't got a C500 yet, so don't know if they'll work or not. |

QUOTE Who makes up these absurd ideas  Can I second those profanities? Lock keypad, put phone in pocket, stick bluetooth headset on, try and do a voice dial ... it doesn't work. This is mind-numbingly stupid. At the very least there should be an option to switch this stupid functionality off? Anyone know if this is the same on the Symbian devices? |

If this is true, then its almost (but not quite) a show stopper - I cannot believe that it has been designed in such a way. |

I'm going through a similar choice soon - 6600 or C500. The C500 games compatibility is very irritating; 6600 being able to play a lot of the N-Gage games is a major plus point.
Yup, the 6600 only has mono MP3 playback, C500 has stereo. Heck, the 7610 only has mono. Nokia are dragging their heels (6230 is nice though, but only S40). I think the clincher for me will be availability of applications for the device, and ultimately price (they are currentlly pretty much the same price). |
