Yeah. Morphgear runs (sort of) SNES games with the SNES plugin for it. Smartgear is getting SNES support worked on, hence the options and keypad config shows SNES options, though you won't play any SNES games yet. Apparently on the PC version, bitbank already has a little SNES support, but it is definetly not ready for Mobile. Sorry for the long absence; I'm super busy working on a bunch of commercial game products. I'm going to spend some time on SmartGear this weekend, so if anyone has any specific problems, please let me know now. One thing that I will fix is the volume setting not being saved after you play a game. I've sporadically seen problems with the load/save, so I'll do some more testing on that code. I've also optimized the Genesis FM sound a bit, so I'll see if it's usable on any mobile devices and I'll add it as a checkbox option. L.B. |

I decided to try to build SmartGear as a PPC2000 application and it appears to work fine. Is anyone still using PPC2000/PPC2002/SP2002 devices and would be interested in having SmartGear? I tried it on my iPAQ 1910 and it runs quite nicely. L.B. |

Dear Larry, your new version solved my problem with Sylvian Tale. Thank you ! Another question, i have some Famicom games in .FDS format. Can I run these games ? The FDS files are Famicom Disk System games. I believe they require BIOS code. If anyone has definitive answers about FDS support I would appreciate it. Are the FDS games unique and don't exist as standard NES titles? L.B. |

Bitbank. There is a new problem with sms. Dragon Crystal does not work. It goes thru intro up to the main menu screen. as soon as you start a new game or load a new game its just a black screen. Thanks again for helping me find this bug. Another hard to track down issue that probably causes odd behavior in other games. The bug was that the ADC HL,XX instructions were never setting the Z flag. This will be released in 1.0.5 (soon). For all of you other bug chasers...I'll give you a free registration of any of my products if you find a bug that satisfies these conditions: 1) The bug exists in the Windows Mobile code, but the same game works correctly on the Desktop PC. 2) The issue hasn't already been reported by someone else. 3) You're running the latest released version of SmartGear. Thanks, L.B. |

I guess Smartgear is a little more particualr on roms. What I've found is that many NES games have incorrect mapper information stored in the header. I guess the other NES emulators have an internal list of the games with the correct mapper numbers. I have a few mapper corrections inside of SmartGear; I'll add more as I discover them. L.B. |

Larry Bank another problem is 150% does not work on any other orention except 0. 90, 260 does not work. it close smartgear out all way. I tested 150% in all directions and it used to work. What device are you seeing a problem on? 75% is not fully implemented because it's not terribly useful, but I spent some time making sure 150% worked well. L.B. Update - this issue has to do with the fact that he's running on a 176x220 device and 150% doesn't fit. I'll look into cleaning up this code shortly so that it will work or at least prevent you from using modes which would have problems. |

So Larry, do you have a Kaiser/Tilt for testing? I am very curious how hard it would be for you to make QTV overlay output, an option for smartgear. I believe it does all image stretching in hardware and would be quite a nice addition. There are many Qualcomm 72XX Windows Mobile phones on the way and it's likely this QTV overlay will be available on a lot of devices. I recently read somewhere that HTC devices make up some 80% of all Windows Mobile devices produced now. What device(s) do you have? -James Hi James, I'm not familiar with the QTV overlay. Is this something that might be supported by DirectDraw? I was considering adding support for DirectDraw because an LG prototype device I was testing only supports DirectDraw properly. I currently own the following devices: T-Mobile SDA T-Mobile MDA T-Mobile Shadow HTC Vox Motorola Q Motorola Q9h Palm 700w HTC Star Trek Dell X50v HP h2210 HP H1910 HP hx2190 HTC Raphael (on loan this week) L.B. |

So I'm a little confused. So is SNES emulation working on Windows Mobile? Because i tried to open a zip with an SMC file inside and it says "Unrecognized File". It does however work on the desktop version. -James Hi James, Sorry, SNES is still missing from Windows Mobile until I finish the ARM 65816. It's going to take many more hours to get it working, so it probably won't be included for several more weeks. L.B. |

i just wanted to say that slvan tale works fine now. thanks for the update bitbank. I am working on a rom capability chart now so it will make it easier for everyone to know what plays and what doesn't and so on.I'll pm you it if you want so you can post it on your site. That would be great; please send me a note to my email address (bitbank@pobox.com). Thanks, L.B. |

Hi, Great product - I'm most interested in SNES. I've tried to play my ROMs on both XP and WM, but I can't see the files. My files have a .SMC extension - should they be something else? Thanks, D SmartGear expects game files to be inside of ZIP files. It doesn't really make sense to keep games uncompressed since they would take 2-4X as much disk space. L.B. |

I just released 1.0.4... Lots of good fixes in this build: 1) Load/Save functions should work properly in all games (including Genesis). 2) More CPU bug fixes for the 68k should show up as better Genesis compatibility. 3) Fixed incorrect mapper # for NES game Pipe Dream. 4) Key definition now works when done from within a paused game. 5) Debug code removed from GameGear. Basically all recently reported issues should be addressed. Here's the link: SmartGear Web Page L.B. |

Sylvan Tale (j) T-Eng works now instead of freezing during the intro, but same problems as annawu. I was wondering if you planned on adding graphic filters such as 2x Super Sai and ect. BTW keep up the wonderful work. Sylvan Tale still has a problem because I left some debugging code in which presses START 4x per second. I will have this fixed on the next release. Right now, the 150X uses a smoothing filter which I wrote. I'll check into using other filters... L.B. |

SmartGear 1.03 PocketPC version MegaDrive Game : Phantasy Star II (UE) If i try to press " New Game " it goes back to Start/Intro screen. Check the AVI movie (PS.zip) PS: Cannot test on Desktop PC version because after trying to load game, I get a crash. PC Dell Latitude C840 Notebook Mobile Pentium 4-M 1794.7 MHz WinXP Pro SP2 (German) The crash on the PC version was due to an incorrect compiler option - it will work on the next release. The reason you can't get a game started is because this game uses the 3rd button ("C") to advance through the menus. You must define and use that button. L.B. |

1.0.3 seems really slow for me. I opened Sonic and Tails 2 for GameGear, and its like the app just freezes every couple seconds for a second or two. Also, the button issue still exists - have to open the define keys screen to use any of the non-direction keys.... This is totally my fault - I left some debugging code in that I was using to debug Sylvan Tale - it presses START every 16 frames. Sorry - I'll issue a new build asap. L.B. |

Hmmm - it looks like there are new and old problems still in the new build. I will try my best to figure out what's going on and have a new build this weekend. The reason I released this build is because it fixed some very specific problems, but it looks like it might have made things worse. Hang on a couple of days and I'll get it back in shape. L.B. |

I just released version 1.0.3 - sorry for the delay. I've been working on cleaning up the various CPU bugs and this build includes good fixes for the GameGear/SMS, NES and Genesis. Rushmore, please recheck the Genesis games which failed before; you should find that most of them now work. I still need to fix a few more 68k bugs. The best way to help me is to find games which work on the desktop version and have a problem on the Windows Mobile version (or just behave differently). This would indicate a bug in my ARM asm CPU emulator. Thanks, L.B. |

More game issues to report: 1) Argus (NES) = solid grey screen 2) Cannon Fodder (GBC) = Loads, but locks up at actual gameplay screen. 3) Blades Of Steel (NES) = screen shakes a lot when sprites contact each other 4) Cobra Triangle (NES) = Sprites missing and locks up 5) Genesis games: About 20% work (so far out of 100 tried), but the other 80% = "unrecognized file", locks up phone, or games loads with no sprites. Hi Rushmore, Thanks again for your bug reports. I'm working right now on fixes and I've come across another bug in the 6502 which caused the sprites to shake in Mappy. Hopefully this is the same issue affecting Blades of Steel. I'll have a new build out tonight. I'm trying to locate any possible 68000 bugs which are causing problems in the Genesis code, but even if I don't find anything today, I'll release a new build so everyone can try the new fixes. 1) Thanks for the speedy fix! 2) Cannon Fodder now works again as well (Genesis). 3) I will not try mapper #23 again until you say it is fixed (locked my Dash up the last time I tried- so not trying now). 4) I will would be happy if you improved Genesis and then SNES. Ton of great games on both systems. 5) Since the Neo Pocket uses a 6502 cpu, are you certain it would be a problem to work on down the road? It was designed for pocket games and there are a lot of very good games on it. Just asking. The Neo Pocket uses a Toshiba CPU which I haven't emulated yet. If it had a 6502, I would have added it already. L.B. |

I am by no means a programmer, but in the GUI it would be under the settings where you set what buttons do what for the NES (also perhaps GB/GBC). it would be something along the lines of: A Button = "user selected button" B Button = "user selected button" A+B Button = "user selected button" <--this could be optional, like a turbo button kinda thing. as far as the programming part i guess you could just have it so when the single "A+B button" is pressed on the phone the emulator treats it as if both the "A" and the "B" buttons are being pressed thus bypassing a hardware limitation via software. i'll try to show you what i mean with my horrible code skills... CODE IF KEYA = PRESSED THEN PRESS_EVENT1 = TRUE ELSEIF KEYB = PRESSED THEN PRESS_EVENT2 = TRUE ELSEIF KEYAB = PRESSED THEN PRESS_EVENT1 = TRUE AND PRESS_EVENT2 = TRUE END IF So with this, even with the two simultanious button press limit on the blackjack, someone would still be able to run AND jump AT THE SAME TIME in super mario bros... now how perfect would that be? anyways thanks for listening to my ramblings. I didn't realize you wanted just the single case of pressing button A + B. If this is what's needed and more than 1 person wants it, I'll add it. So is there consensus that this feature is needed by more than just Godan? L.B. |

Isn't there a fix that Motorola can make? I love my Dig Dug game and it too won't work. It seems crazy that each vendor has to update/"fix" their games to support what seems to be a bug in the Q9h? -John Hi John, If you're referring to the arcade emulator version of DigDug that I wrote, I'm working on a new release which fixes this problem. I'm not sure when Namco will release it, but it will be labeled something like "WM6 update". L.B. |

Just curious...I'm running a Q9M and don't have this problem.Could it be an issue with the pxa27x lcd driver? perhaps something was coded differently for use in AT&T phones.I thought the Q9M and Q9H were basically the same phone (internally as for the main chipset and board).I've found several settings in registry pertaining to display driver and video memory....just a thought since I'm constantly tweaking and hacking this thing. Apparently the Q9M and Q9H are not the same guts. The pxa270 doesn't have this problem, only the new TI OMAP CPU. L.B. |

Here is my analysis of the Genesis module: Thanks Rushmore - excellent job of testing. I'm going to add "*.MD" file support for the next build and see why some of the games don't work. The Genesis module currently has the FM (YM2612) sound disabled because that code is too slow. This leaves only the DAC and SN76496 sound effects which usually is not much. I will eventually rewrite that code and re-integrate it. L.B. |

SmartGear 1.02 PocketPC version GameGear Game : Sylvian Tale After game start and introduction, sprites goes messy With CEgg, the game run very well. Thank you very much for posting info about this bug. This is a problem in my ARM Z80 emulator. I was able to reproduce it and fix it. These are the kinds of bugs I would like people to report. If you can recreate the bug on Windows Mobile, but not on the desktop version, then that points to a bug in my ARM assembly language code. These are the bugs I really need to fix because I use this same ARM code in commercial products. This fix will appear in the next release (probably this weekend). Thanks again, L.B. |
