Hi, I am trying to stream some radio stations via my phone (Vario II, with T-mobile upgraded rom), but my phone does not seem to be able to connect to the radio stations. The internet links end with .m3u, .asx and .pls. I have tried both Mortplayer and another program, but am still unable to connect. If I connect my phone to my laptop and stream the radio stations via Media Player on my PC, they work, so it is probably not T-Mobile blocking, but more likely that my phone is the problem. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks |

I used to connect my vario II with WM5 to my laptop and it connected quite quickly. However, I updated my rom to WM6, and it still connects OK, but there is a delay of anything upto around a minute before I can use the internet - it also seems to pause my PC. After the pause it then works fine. I assume it is a network setting somewhere, since WM6 seems to treat the phone laptop connection as a network, whereas WM5 didn't. Any ideas? Thanks |

I recently upgraded my vario II from WM5 to WM6 (the T-mobile pre-release) and it seems to be a lot better. However, when I try to create a new word document, I get an error ('an error occured. The document could not be opened'). On checking the word options, it appears that the default template is missing, hence why it cannot create a new document. It does not look like I can tell it where to look for the template. Anyone have any idea how I can resolve this? I can open pre-existing Word Mobile documents. Thanks |

Hi, I have my current ring tone stored on the SD card, however, recently for no apparent reason the file (together with a couple other ringtones also stored on the root of my SD card) became corrupt. A couple of files in a program folder on the SD also have been corrupted (possibly unrelated, but seems unlikely). The ringtones I have had no choice but to delete, however, the files in the program folder will not allow themselves to be deleted. Any ideas how I can get rid of the files without copying my entire SD contents to my PC, excluding the files, then formatting the SD card and copying everything back again. A couple of the files (though not all), contain square symbols in the file name, which the OS does not seem to like. The messages I receive when trying to delete the files are - - Access is denied (make sure the disk is not full or write protected and the file is not currently in use); or - Problem deleting file I have tried to delete the files via activesync, but it would not let me. And no, the files are not write protected or in use and the disk is not full. Anyone come across this before? I have had the same problem previously once before, but on a different device, with the program Mobiluck (which I do not have now). The program files renamed themselves with symbol keys and could not be deleted. The only program recently installed is F-Secure Mobile Anti-Virus, which I thought I would test. This does scan all files apparently. Not that I have ever heard of a proper virus on a PPC device. My phone is the Vario II. Thanks |

Thanks all, for your help. I will have to look on the back of my bill to see if there is anything of note on it. Failing that, I will log into my account a couple days before my next bill and have a look. It seems a bit daft to me, they set a fair usage policy but do not list on your bill how much data you've used. |

I am on Tmobile Walk and Web Plus and have been using my phone as a modem via my PC. I have just received my bill so I thought I would check how much data I have used over the month, but I have been unable to find this info. I have logged in to the website to see if I could find this information, but have failed miserably. Surely I should be able to check the amount of data I have used? Am I looking in the wrong place? Thanks |

Previous discussion on this topic suggested that MSN used a very small amount of data, but of course 'small' is a relative term, and a long conversation could involve quite a bit of text transmission (remember GPRS costs for data in both directions) I think Orange charge £3 per MB, so in your case, 10KB would cost 30p Based on £3 per MB, doesn't 10KB work out at about 3p? |

I had the same problem last night, I discovered that although Activesync said it was sync'ing my phone (Vario II), it wasn't. Not sure for how long it has been doing this, but I have only had the phone a week. I updated activesync to version 4.5 in the hope of a solution, but activesync recognised my phone as a new device. I set up a new partnership and my phone sync'ed correctly. I have since amended a few contacts and it seems to be sync'ing OK. Not sure if this is of any help... you could try the same if you are not already on activesync 4.5 |

Hi, I am considering upgrading phone shortly, but cannot work out the differences between the T-Mobile MDA Compact III (HTC Artemis?) and T-Mobile MDA Vario II. As far as I can tell both are 3G, the compact has built in GPS but no wifi, and the Vario has wifi but no GPS. Is this correct? What confuses me is that the Vario is available with Co-Pilot, even though it doesn't have GPS built in? I understand that the vario has a slide out keyboard and also a much faster processor? What are the advantages of the compact other than perhaps size (i haven't compared the sizes yet). Thanks |

for Gmail input the server information as 'pop.gmail.com:995' and 'smtp.gmail.com:465' respectively. Also in Options ensure that 'require SSL connection', 'outgoing mail requires authentication' and 'use separate settings' are all ticked. Also in 'outgoing settings' re-input your log on details and also tick 'require SSL for outgoing mail'. The above works for me, although I do not recall if I have actually sent any E-mails from from G-mail account. Regards, |

I need help, I cannot get my Safecom card working very well.. i am having problems with internet explorer on the phone knowing what connection to use when going on line, it keeps defaulting to try to use GPRS. The only way I can find to get around this is in 'connections', and 'select networks' on the advanced tab, then change both to My Work Network. This works. But then I cannot access GPRS when the network card is not in the phone. Could someone post some of their network/internet settings that are on their phone. This may help sort my problem out. I have already checked out previous posts (and their links) but to no avail. Heeeeeeelp. thanks |

Does anyone know much about viruses on the PPC platform. I have just upgraded onto the M500 and was looking on a website for accessories and noticed anti-virus software. I was a bit non-plussed as I had never heard of any real harmful viruses on the PPC platform, is this just some sort of marketing ploy aimed at peoples' fear of viruses, like the production of AV software for smartphones, or are there actually a few nasties around? Any thoughts. |

Thanks for your reply Disco Stu. I think I have just worked out what my problem is (I should I say what my phone's problem is). I installed these programs on my tiny 8MB SD card (sympathy please) and although they installed ok, space on the card was just a little tight and appears the programs were sulking. thanks |

Yes I installed the PPC versions for all three. They install but on loading display an error about re-installing from the original CAB file. Any suggestions to fix this? How bizarre... |

Does the M500 work with the following programs? MSReader, Mobipocket and Mobiluck. I have tried to install all three but none work. Has anyone used these progs on the M500 (or can suggest alternatives that do work!?) Thanks. |

Thanks RazerD! I have now managed to set up another E-mail account, the problem is always seems much easier when you know the answer. I believe the suggestion you gave for Gmail appears to work, I took the port numbers from Outlook on my PC, although I didn't have any E_mails to download so I will find out later if it worked okay. ta |

A couple more questions - Does the M500 support gmail? I cannot find anywhere to input Server port numbers? Also, can the M500 support more than one POP email account. I have just tried to set up a second account, except when I get to the screen asking whether the Email account is POP3 or IMAP, it will not let me progress to the next screen, saying the account name already exists (when it doesn't). Heeelllpppp. thanks |

Dade (or others who know all about the M500) - Can someone perhaps start a thread listing the useful things to switch off/on with a M500 straight of the box, things like turning off the infra-red receive to save power or any other useful tidbits. I have just received my M500 from Orange (yippee), but have not used a PPC device for years so any useful knowledge on this device would be useful. Also, does the supplied CD have anything other than Outlook and Activesync on? My CD player in my laptop is knackered and I cannot be bothered to try the CD on someone else's machine if they are the only things on the CD. Yes, I know I could read the manual, but have you seen it...... Thanks |

I do the same thing with my Orange E-mail account. Just reading your post i have just noticed I have also stopped receiving the SMS message with header info. I had this problem with Orange some time back aswell, there was nothing I could do about it, it started working again in due course without my intervention. Sorry I couldn't be of any help, though at least you know the problem isn't your end. |

Stupid question but is the M500 in Orange shops yet? I don't want to trek all the way to my nearest Orange shop to find that they do not have them in yet? Thanks (yes I know, I am a little lazy). |
