FTP? Anyone?

But I don't care to register on a website for $40 per year, to TRY something. I can't seem to get Orneta to work... and I haven't seen ANYONE mention HipFTP working on the i600.

Kind of a steep price to pay for a maybe.

You are the moderator, correct?..and this board will "give" me a copy of HipFTP if I register for a monthly price?

No offense, but I'd like a little more unbiased opinion... You don't mention Orneta FTP or whether it worked...

quotes from the salesman don't fly as far with me.

Thanks, though, once I establish more info on what is available, then I'll consider. I'd like to hear what others think of HipFTP and any other programs. I had a Kyocera 7135 and could do this with freeware. At the moment, I'm not finding even a demo program that will even work, let alone have features/functions to compare with others.

Lets gets something straight dude.

Yes I am a moderator on this site. But I do not care if you buy a ModacoPlus Membership or not, I really dont.

I do not sell this site. I SUPPORT this site for all the good it has done for me, for others and the Smartphone platform in general. If not for this site, you would not be using your phone right now as the platform would have flopped in Europe before it even came to the US.

I do not get paid from this site....that includes money, hardware, software, or anything. I never even won a contest on this damn site and they've given away a ton of phones here. (I'd like to speak to someone about this, now that this issue has come up! )

The opinions I give are unbiased as a Smartphone user. The only thing that being a Moderator gives me is the ability to manage posts. That's it.

$40.....well worth it to me. Maybe you'll see it to once you get over 5 posts or 50 or 500. Membership does have it's benefits. HipFTP is just one of them. There are more and more to come. But the only reason I joined was to support a site that has helped me immensly. Maybe you will do the same one day. Maybe not. Either way, I dont care.

In the meantime, enjoy the wealth of information that is available in this and all of the other forums. Including this:

HipFTP works on the i600. I personally never tried OrnetaFTP. If I did, I would tell you which is better. I personally have not been able to load any Orneta products to the phone without using the funky method described in other threads in this section due to the security bug in the i600. You may have to open the CAB. Extract the files rename them to their proper name and place them ion the proper folders manually as described in it setup.xml file also inside the cab file.

Have Fun!

You're not talking to a child...

I am a 37-year-old professional in the television broadcast business.

I really doubt that one single website is responsible for the success of this platform in Europe... that's quite a stretch.

You should be compensated for your efforts...at least given hardware for "evaluation" purposes.

I'm simply requesting information from anyone with success using ANY kind of FTP software on the i600. From what I have read, Orneta is a flop. I'm leaning toward HipFTP, but I would like to find some positive research before I do that.

I do appreciate your forum, and others like it. Everybody links to this website and for good reason. I have my research, some of it from rather expensive research labs, and I, as well as you and many others watching this industry know it's about to explode in the U.S. Sales #'s are proving the growth in smartphones in comparison to pocketpc's.

As a side project, I built and maintain a mobile weather website... mobile.kxan.com it's simple, but it does the job for our local viewing public. No frills, and that's mainly due to the forced support for the lowly palm pda phones ( I just dumped my 7135 out of frustration). I do agree that it's worthwhile to support the benefits of websites like this, but I just don't feel this website gives enough info or user feedback on the HipFTP software to justify going "all in." Maybe I should, but I'm frugal, I'm paid to be that way in the management of our operations. I would rather pay $5 for a software app. than $40 for one app and the possibility of other benefits, that honestly, I may never need.

Keep up the great work, though. Many, many more will soon find an appreciation for the work of pioneers, like you, in this latest technology as it grabs hold of the U.S.

It's true.

I dont need to be compensated. The information gained here is compensation enough.

If you dont believe me....Here is another review.

Maybe the software will be available to purchase after it is out of the beta stages. But until then, this is the only way to get it. Good Luck. Enjoy the site and your phone.

Thanks for the comments, links, and info...

I am inclined to look at HipFTP as I cannot get a response from Orneta(sounds like they aren't too eager to push their ftp product... or maybe it just doesn't work  )

As many of us migrate to the smartphone, "growing pains" within the early stages of product rollout are expected.

Thanks for answering, and keep up the great work. This forum and website are a great source for information, and it is obvious that it is managed professionally.
