***VERY*** good question, indeed !!!!!

Update is a very euphemistic word for it, too.

Basically the E200 (I have an unlocked 8080, which should be the same except some tailored Software for Orange in the E200) has a very powerful hardware.

Yet, it is up to the software that the end-user benefits from it !

e.g.

Bluetooth:

Practically doesn't work. If you check in the registry there are lots of DLLs which are involved in BT and lots of Registry settings (you even find references for the modem functionality). BUT: This functionality seems to be in an early alpha stage.

Power consumption:

Is a nightmare. (Though I posted a request here if anyone can give a comparison with the Motorola MPx200 on whether its hunger for power is also that big, there was no response. So I cannot say if this is mainly caused by generic bugs in the WinOS, by the hardware or any particular component such as TFT, SD card socket or whatever.)

There are voices which say the SD card driver is the culprit, but no verifications.

Lots of minor bugs, like: + sign is not showing up upon entering new contacts in outlook (Dear Developers: The 8080 is mainly a PHONE ! So making phonecalls should be one of its primary functions !!!)

***

HTC, the developer of the Qtek/Exxx, doesn't offer any information on its website.

This is no problem e.g. for the iPAQs as they are taken care of by HP.

Who feels "responsible" for a Qtek ??? I think no one at all.

This is very strange, because as someone working in the marketing I always thought that products are manufactured to be sold :-/

Obviously the Qtek's primary function is to serve as a live demo (ok, this was very sarcastic...)

An other issue:

Where can I get original accessories ?

(I live in Austria. Goods shipped over from Germany are also here within just a couple of days. But I neither found accessories in Austria nor in Germany, which is very odd.)

If I buy myself an unlocked MPx200 I am completely independent, also from an operator. And I can order accessories for it in almost every country.

I decided for the Qtek, because I hate clamshell designs like the Motorola.

One has to wonder if this was a good overall decision...

So once again:

HTC, Dangaard and whoever plays a role in the supply chain of these Smartphone:

PLEASE PROVIDE A *MAJOR* SOFTWARE UPDATE FOR THE QTEK8080/Exxx PHONES !

PLEASE, AS A FIRST MEASURE, GIVE US AT LEAST A SPECIFIC DATE UNTIL WHICH SUCH AN UPGRADE WILL BE AVAILABLE !

Waiting for it without any information is unacceptable.

Regards

Gerhard

Well its official I am severly p*ssed with my phone.

I have been out on business for the last two days and the phone ran out of juice before midday. I had bluetooth on in my car and heh presto whoosh no power........

I often find myself sticking up for this phone but enough is enough. I need a reliable phone or a pda since we CANNOT HAVE BOTH IN ONE UNIT. Because unless you liking having a power cord sticking out of your mobile dump the SPV.

Here is one person who won't be renewing his spv contract......and the update, what will come of it, apart from more bugs and more things orange could not fix............WHAT IS THE POINT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I KNOW THERE IS DIFFERENT ROMS ON THE E200 MINES 1.1.1.4 WITH THE RADIO VER. 1.09.00 AND ON THE "BUZZING" THREAD THERES PEOPLE WITH OPER. 1.1.3.3 + RADIO 1.09.02, MY MODEL IS HT351 AND THE "UPDATED" VERSIONS ARE OLDER MAYBE RECONDITIONED. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE ARE ANY DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE VERSIONS? :?: :?

Baterry life, Bluetooth and that now infamous buzz. These are the issues we want resolving.

Come on ORANGE, pull your fingers out... At least make a statement on your website, admit the issues, something!!!!

Hi,

Just to bump this one up a little and add my own plea. This phone could be so good, and everyone is incredibly frustrated that it is let down by such poor software bugs, which really should have been checked. Certainly for a phone which retails at such a high price, it is unacceptable that it does not operate correctly; in some cases the basic functionality of a telephone is affected! (e.g. the old mystery 'Cannot Answer Call' error)...

Please, Orange.. ..respect your customers and offer us a solution to these problems... ...SOON!

Carlos

I'm sure I remember there was meant to be a guy here from Orange ... so long since we've heard anything I can't quite remember the name ... Mr. Blue or something ...

Guys...

Mr Orange left this forum at a rate of knots as soon as the myriad amount of bugs in the E200 were revealed.

(I jest, but in fairness, he hasn't been here for ages).

Now my E200 joystick is too 'loose' in that a downward press very often results in it thinking it is a LEFT press now - driving me MAD, even though I am being careful.

But keeping to the topic of this post, its about WHEN the promised upgrade will come.

So that being the case...

WHEN IS THE E200 UPGRADE OUT ANYONE (I'd address that to Mr Orange, but he no longer lives at this address *lol*).

I've noticed on the list of registered users at the top of the screen that Mr Orange is logged in from time to time, so like me, I think he visits regularly but doesn't post very often. I guess he's got nothing new to tell us at the moment. He will I'm sure be aware of everyone's comments here. Like you, I eagerly await the E200 update. Presumably, its still on course for the first quarter of 2004 (fairly soon then with any luck). If, when it arrives, it gets the thumbs up from you guys, I'll be getting an E200 again shortly after.

Hmmm....will there be a working Back-up / Restore Tool for the E200 ?

Although I've installed the Sprite version I'm worried about restoring after kjk's problems :?
