"Back Key" keeps repeating

Guest ospre

Hello,

Using SPV E200 on Orange.

When typing out text messages or emails and I press the "Back" key it sometimes repeats itself continiously and deletes the whole message, this is without the key being held down. The key isn't jamming down as when I press the * key the deleting stops.

As this problem is intermittant any ideas what causes it?

Thanks,

Nick.

could it be a tight case thing. I had the same problem when i was fitting the supertight krusell case on the directional joystick. But after a while when the case is seasoned, it became ok.

Try letting the gadget breath a few days and see how it goes. Alternatively try backspacing a bit slower...he he.

I think I've fixed it. Though I wouldn't recommend the fix to anyone who doesn't know there own strength.

Hight tech procedure:

Left hand over the key pad, right hand over the screen. Give it a gentle twist back and forth. Since then, it hasn't repeated and my number 7 key doesn't take an elephant to press it to make it work.

I've heard of tight fitting jeans but tight fitting case? heheh :)

Sorry to hear it didn't work. In my situation "twisting" the case solved it. Hopefully that demonstrates the case is a bit tight and over time, it should loosen up a bit.

I also have this problem, I don't own a krussell case, and it has only appeared since the update (weird eh). I have used orneta tester and can confirm it's not a case of the button being stuck, for when you press any other key it stops repeating, Any other ideas as to what this could be, if not it'll be another replacement for me with O care.

Weird, in some cases (mine) it's a tight fit, and in other cases it's software related.

You're right though, one of two things you can do is grab another hand set or wait for the next update and see if that resolves it. I'd personally grab another hand set as the next update could be ages away :)

I reckon this could be the reason for bad battery life also, Think about it, constant registering of the back button has got to have an effect on battery life. Might be worth running a poll, mine only seems to be doing this at certain times of the day. as of now, 22:10, phone is ok, 50% battery life.

The cause of this problem is too much pressure on the red "end call" key, either fron tight cases or tight pockets  . I have been able to simulate the problem when the handset corrects itself after a while out of the pocket. So I apologise for blaming it on the update, purely coincidental!. HTH other people though....

I've had my Xphone since the Beggining of February 2004. I started having the back key stick within the last 2 weeks. I have also noticed that the number 4 sticks as well. I thought It was an Operating System error, so I did the hard reset. To my surprise, the problem persisted. I think it might be something wrong physically with the phone itself. I have contacted 02 and am waiting for a response. My phone is pretty close to being rendered useless because of these two keys. I cannot add information that uses the #4 keypad. My maps, adding text to any sort of message is a nightmare now. If there is any other help with this issue, it would be greatly appreciated.

I've had my Orange E200 less than 2 weeks, and am having the same prob as eyemtired. it's a pain in the backside when writing texts and stuff, as when I want to type a g, h, or i I have to time it during it's rotation, by knocking the joystick to the side, in order to get it to stick on the specific letter! is this definitely the keypad? I thought so at first, but then had my doubts, since it doesn't keep trying to register after something else has been pressed.

Has anyone got any specific idea of what nature of problem it is? I really don't wanna have to try and take the whole thing apart, only to discover the keypad wasn't the problem! :D

Sorry for the double post, but just so anybody having the same problem knows...

I'm starting to think it may be a software problem, or at least an irreversible one... I lost my patience with the thing last night, as it's making text messages and other stuff a nightmare... So I found a guide to dismantling it (I know, but as I said, patience gone!!!) and did so successfully. The keypad membrane (Or whatever it's called) with the switch bubble seems to be fine. I can't find any problems with it sticking down or anything. So I can only really conclude that there's nothing wrong with it, and the problem is software based, or the construction is so naff, that the connection is being made around the edges, regardless.

It's ironic that a friend of mine said, after the previous phones we both had, that the construction for once looked so good and professional. Yet it's now having a problem after a couple of weeks, that even the most basic phones don't have after years of use.

So in conclusion, I really wouldn't advise anyone to get an Orange SPV. (Which is a damn shame, because otherwise it's a great phone, and I hate Nokias!!) :D

my friend is having the dame problem with the number 4 key. I think it's related to the last update. I think somehow the keyboard driver is playing up or something else is playing up that interferes with the keyboard driver (interrupt request).

I'm gonna try flashing it with the QTek rom and see what happens. I know it's deffinatelly not the keyboard itself because sometimes it would work ok for 5 min or so and go kaka again. I tried applying different pressure on it while it was working and everythign was fine.

no go with the qtek rom...I'm staring to wonder if there is something like BIOS that's become corrupted in the phone. Something that would not be affected by changing bootloaders or roms.

It's not a physical problem for sure.

Thulsadoom...any news with your phone?

I actually tried lifting the keyboard membrane up with a scalpel from the circuitboard, around the problem area, to see if it would reduce/solve the problem by it not then being stuck down and making the connection constantly (If that's what the problem is), but it hasn't made any difference. (I wouldn't advise anybody else doing this, 'cause I probably coulda easily screwed the thing up, but it's still working fine otherwise)

I'm gonna have another go to see if I have any luck... ('cause it's driving me mad! I should probably just try sending it back, but I hate to be defeated by the thing! ;-) )

I trade it with a newer phone but the problem keeps coming back to me.. I just realized that it happened as soon i dropped it from a desk (1 meter height).. so don't ever drop this phone.. i am still looking for an answer about this problem

At Our company we have about 20 SPV's and we have swapped out about 10, first of all with the 4 sticky button and now the back key. Maybe it is to do with the new update. Orange always swap them out though with their next day carrier.

Yee, I had my E200 replaced after the joystick messed up, it wouldnt move down at all. Now after the replacement, the number 4 button repeats. After bit of bending and so forth it will stop tho.
