Just because we can have 3d games on a smartphone it does not mean that a 3d games machine will run on it.. in fact i am pretty damm sure it wont....but if you can prove me wrong....

errm, i can see a few problems here

one of them being how to attach a cdrom drive to a smartphone

that and its a bit insane to want to emulate a CD based console on a phone

first time i heard this! amazing if it actually runs...but what about the games? getting a *cough* "image" will be hard unless you have a mini-HD.

Off-Topic

Does anyone know if its possible to incorporate the iPod mini's HD onto these smartphone, PDAs, etc? if it works out, then the storage will be amazing! think of it, 20 GB worth of stufffirst time i heard this! amazing if it actually runs...but what about the games? getting a *cough* "image" will be hard unless you have a mini-HD.

Anyhoo!!

I really don't think you should BOTHER doing this.

It's not a case of "Can it", or "How Well Will it"..

Just.. don't!

Seriously, if we're trying to pursuade the Nokia-idiots to transfer, we're not going to do it with 1 frame per minute of sloppy looking, shrunken, chunky, blocky, audio-less Parappa the Rapper, are we!!?

If you have the skills to even bother, then try something better, like.. Oooh, I dunno.. Making an actual game, or something.

There is no problem with the frame rate and no problem wid the storage and who da dam is on about a cd rom drive u muppet u just use roms. u dont have a cartaridge holder 4 the sega emulator do u. soz went off on one there! i'm gunna try 2 make this work let the public test it and then u can see if u want it or not.

The point being made wasn't that disk images couldn't be used, but that the size of them was a problem.

Even if a game has a load of the FMV taken out, they could still be 100s of MBs big. SD cards of a decent size aren't cheap.

heh, a psx emulator on a smartphone, then again, bleem (the first proper psx emu) ran on a 166, so i s'pose this aint impossible.

and the whole game size thing is very valid, who the hell has an sd card big enough to hold a (decent) psx game's files. my fave psx games were across more than one cd, totally invalidating sd cards (unless you have a lot of cash doing f*** all).

it would be nice to see, but as propperly emulated psx arcade games blow goats on my little 2.4ghz pc in mame, i wouldn't hold my breath.

and if your going to emulate something, best do it properly :)

emulating a psx game would be a longshot, not to mention the size of the *games*. if we really want to emulate something, why not a GBA or SNES (a smooth working one like the Genesis emu). as much as i want more emus, we should work on kumite-like (in terms of potential usage) games. then, it would really show off what this baby can do.

@midnight: i would want a DB emu so i could play some real chess with it.

BTW, sorry for the multiposts, IE stopped responding and i clicked submit too many times wondering why this is happening :)

Just considered another problem with a PS emulator..

How are you gonna control it?

Let's first try to get a fully working GameGear/Master System, shall we? :)

eh I think people are missing the point here.

Mate if you think you can get a playstation emulator running on the smartphone then I say go for it. Just beacuse the phones at the moment can't fully emulate a playstation doesn't mean future ones won't.

I mean how many emulators have actually run full speed etc. when they fist came out. Given the development cycle for such projects the technology catches up as they are being developed.

I say do it now, and it will be an impressive tech demo if anything, then when phones are good enough you won't have a load of people winging on forums like this with comments l 'What about a playstation emulator?'

I am assuming this emualtor is based on the version you can get for pocket PC.

Stuff like this is about the technical challenge, not for some lazy person you have never met to be able to play Tekken on their mobile.

no, neostar, you're missing the point, sure a psx emu would be cool, but no1 could play it properly, on psx to play well, you use 4 or 6 fingers, thats impossible on a phone, plus, how can a 700mb (or more) image fit on a sd card? jsut now, its totally useless, if you ahve the skill to emulate a psx on a phone, dont, make a gba emulator, much more realisteic, roms (sorry!) are smaller, much smaller, and gba only has, waht? 6 keys?

if its a technical challenge your after, why not be challenged making a decent emulator, one that people can use. I think you'll also find the person making it stated (quite clearly) that he doesnt really know waht he's doing

hes right, its best to emulate the GBA first. the games are a lot smaller and might be less complex to emulate. a psx emu would likely tax the CPU to absurd lvls...even if it runs, how long would the batt last? 15 minutes?
