My phone has turned into a vibrator!

I've had my mpx since they first came out and have so far had no major problems with it other than running it to close to its maximum memory #-o

But...... today it decided that it would start vibrating for no reason! I had no messages come through and no other reminders ect set and even when i powered it off it kept going, i could only stop it by removing the battery and it strated as soon as the battery made contact again. I put it back in my pocket and left it and after about ten minutes it stopped. This was about four hours ago and since then every now and again it will give a half hearted vibrate for a couple of seconds then stop :?

Anyone else had this or have any ideas????

man that is super weird, your the first... have you tried doing a hard reset? if that dosn't work it might be your hardware... if you've already flashed your phone to the generic rom then i would try reflashing it but if you havn't then it would be a risk due to warranty issues.. might have to send it in to moto.

Battery is fine, i put phone on charge when i went bed last night and was awoken by the vibrating shortly after midnight (the missus was not impressed!) I took the battery out and left it till this morning when it started again so i did a master reset and....... its still bl@@dy vibrating!!!

I thought i'd phone orange to see what they said and got the dreaded 'i know everything about phone' person who told me that if turned vibrate off and took my battery out for ten seconds all would be cured, i did try to tell her that i'd already done a master reset but she said that i couldnt of because i didnt have the password to reset my phone!

Eventualy she admited that my phone is goosed and offered two options, A one off payment of £300  or A payment of £100 through orange care

Dont really know what to do now, ring them and shout, start a new contract on a E200 or use a old phone and wait for the mpx220 or c500 :?

THis is a hardware fault, I had the same thing when i was modifying a smartphone once :D

Something is shorting out inside, it cold be either internal, or a bent pin on the cradle socket on the bottom of the phone.

Have a look at the cradle socket, all pin should be the same distance apart, and should not touch each other. if try are bend straighten them up. If its an internal short you would have to remove the cove so i dont want to explore that.

In the past i had an emergency replacement for £75 the £300 figure is new and just doesn't seem right to me.

Try phoning cs again, speak to someone else and you may get more luck.

Spoke to Orange CS again with no joy, i even asked to be put through to disconnections as they can usually give deals that no one else can but the snotty cow wouldn't have it so i paid up and cancelled

I've probably made a mistake but knowing what Orange release dates are like i wasnt going to wait for a new model so I thought I'd try a E200 :?

I now have a MPX200 in 'used' condition with all leads, cd's ect and a intermittant vibrate fault if anyone is interested ( would make a good toy for the missus if nothing else  )

I've got to admit that's the worse Orange CS I have heard of

your phone is still under warranty and should be sent off for repair. You should have repeatedly phoned them as they have to pass you on to a supervisor if you ask.

As it may be too late now another suggestion is to send me the phone and I'll have a look at it for you, the vibrate unit is housed in the flip by the magnet that controls the screen onoff. It's possible that the connector strip may be damaged and shorting out to the case but I would have to see it to confirm this as a fault. Otherwise if you want to let it go for spares :D

to be honest im not surprised, you prob fried the vibrator motor.

did you know the average bosh drill is designed for something like 24 hours continual use? If you break that down its likely to last most diy'ers several years... see what im saying?

Don't know the why or how come for your phone on this one, but I had a nympho girlfriend once, who named her vibrators after Seasame Street characters like Oscar, Big Bird (of course), Ernie, etc. She wore a few of those motors out too. :D

thanks for sharing that with us :?

The other thing is to remove the motor, but it would be nice to find the cause first.

I agree awarner, send me a pm with your address and i will send you the phone to have a look at, if its a simple fix then it could save this hassle for alot of people if this turns out to be common problem :?

do they ever check the actual warranty dates of expiration??? many times in the states they usually just figure that your covered... well with my experience you just send it in and they try to fix it and send you back a working unit (new/used). I would just do what ash said to keep calling them, your bound to get a nice guy that'll help you out and then you'll get a new phone with an updated rom? =D

Got it sorted this morning!!!!! After trying at different times of the day i finally spoke to someone at cs who agreed that the phone should be replaced and a shiny new arrived this evening :D Trouble is my E200 is due to arrive tommorow, decisions decisions!!!! I think i might have to use the E200 and compare them for a few days :D
