with all this talk of hardresets and things, young Mr Warner gave me a hot tip and i spent some time testing it,

TOP TIP: If you are going to hard reset your phone, make sure that the battery is at 100% for at least 30 to 60 minuites before doing it.

i have tested this with my E200 and the battery life is LOTS better in the range of 25% to 50% with bluetooth on and the sd card in.

(it also worked on on my mpx200 as well)

So, just to be really anal & specific ... does that translate to leaving the phone in the cradle/charger for 30-60 mins? Then hard resetting as quickly as humanly possible?

its just to make sure that the battery is full in a li-ion sort of way (and i know what you lot are like for following instructions)

and i always hard reset with it plugged into the mains charger anyway

I'm not massively convinced by your projections beery :D Really you need to test through to the battery giving up the ghost or calculate the rate of drop (linear, exponential, logarithmic etc) and project using the average of the recorded results

Sorry, spent too long having various tutors and teachers moaning about reliability of my results :/

don't blame me, i got a E in my gcse maths

all i did was select all the current results in excel and drag them till they when't to zero then used the magical graph wizard :D

my numbers are as good as HTC's

all they did was turn the phone on, start stopwatch, leave it for 4 days, see that its turned off and reported the results as "phone lasts 4 days" or something like that

now speaking about a top tip from who ever - i have to say that this top tip was postet at least a week ago already - included in the wm2003 update for mpx200 - quote:

Falls jemand Probleme mit dem Akku haben sollte folgender Rat:

Gerät AUSSCHALTEN, dann vollständig aufladen und anschliessend (voll geladen) einen Hardreset durchführen (Blaue Taste beim Einschalten gedrückt halten; "Master Reset => YES").

it says nothing else then you said here. and the one who discovered it had good eyes to read @nonymus' advice...

cheers, lutz

Well I did not read @nomymus post as my eyes are only good enough to read

English i'm afraid :D

I knew about this before the 2003 hacked rom was released but needed to test it before posting.

hey, why not - i was just telling you that this was known before...

maybe it was stupid to not talk about it or just in german

:-)

Guest MrMagoo

Has anyone tested whether having the SD card in makes any difference to a hard reset?

(and no I haven't tried it - can't be bothered hard resetting - I charge every night now anyway)

my random guesswork on why it works is something like this

when the phone is reset it looks at the battery and sees the current % and calibrates it as full, so the next time its charged it gets to whatever level the battery was when it was last reset and stops charging. or its somthing else and im just stupid.

and mrmaggo, my testing was done with bluetooth on and the sd card in.

todays results are in 13.7 hours i lost 50% of the battery (starting at 100%) with about an hours worth of calls and the card and bt on all day.
