How do you get the 900 mhz band?

Guest tedya

I have an unlocked mpx200 and I have a choice of automatic, 1800 and 1900 mhz bands. Some people say they also have the 900mhz band. How do I get this band on my phone? Thanks.

Place your phone in Automatic and if it is tri-band enabled

it will work.

If you have an AT&T mpx200 then chances are you do not have a tri-band phone.

You can also unlock 900Mh from internet for USD20

Unfortunately you cannot and the sellers claiming so are just ripping people off

The AT&T phones are Dual-band due to hardware, flashing the rom will

not change this. There were a few AT&T phones in the early release that

were Tri-band but that was only a few.

I don't get it. My MPX200 is from AT&T as well and I DO have "Auto", "1900", "900/1800" in the menu.

When I bought it off eBay, the seller also told me it's a tri-band.

So, I can see it from the menu, I do have 900mhz then?

I am pretty sure the seller told me if I want to have 900mhz, he has to upgrade to WM2003. Is this true or what?

My MPX200 is AT&T for sure. It has logo on the phone.

When the seller asking me if I want WM2003 or 2002. He told me speaker phone might have problem with 2003. So I told him 2002 is ok, but I really need 900mhz since I am going to Malaysia for vacation which has mostly 900mhz. He told me then, 900mhz is only possible with wm2003.

I got my 900mhz in the manu for sure, but not sure if it's really because of the wm2003 or not.

you coming to malaysia? That would be great... in malaysia we support 1800 also...

anyway, back to the topic at hand. I have a mpx200 which is from ATT, and under settings, I can only select auto, 1800 or 1900. Clearly this is a later version of the ATT phone, and it is dual band.

If you want to know whether your phone is tri-band, then just check the settings. If you see 900, 1800 and 1900 then it is tri-band. If just 1800 and 1900 then sorry, it is dual band.

This is not always the case, just because the phone shows the three bands

in the menu does not mean you can access them.

He told me then, 900mhz is only possible with wm2003.

I'm afraid he is lying to you :)

awarner, yes Malaysia has 1800, but most providers are still 900 I believe. Only 1 or 2 provider has 1800, right? Yes, it's my 3rd time going to Malaysia, it's a beautiful contry to visit for sure. :)

So even if I have 900/1800/1900 shown on the menu, it might not have 900 in the phone? So you think all AT&T MPX200 must not have 900mhz then? Is that possible some batch of MPX200 under AT&T has tri-band?

It's actually weird. I set my band to 1800/900 in Canada where there is only 1900, I can still have signal.

Your best bet is to set it to automatic and see what happens.

As I said in my second reply to this thread there were a few

MPX200 phones in the early days of AT&T, that appeared to be tri-band. The onyl way to be sure you have a tri-band phone

is to buy a european version like the one by Orange.

There should have been some other way to confirm. If I carry my MPx200 to some place where 900 is required but when I try and it does not work then my whole buseness will get messed up without my cell.

Mine also shows "Auto", "1900" and "900/1800". Why there is common selection for 900/1800??? Can someone answer

It's because there was no official 2003 ROM for the AT&T MPX200.

What you see in the the band selection is how the ROM was written. The 2003 ROM that started all the current dodgy ROMs that around today was only initially designed for testing purposes and were not intended for public release.

if your phone ain't build without no triband, no amount of unlocking or flashing will make it triband...

let's get this straight once and for all... MAJORITY of at&t phones are dual band. only the first few batches of the phone are tri-band.

those of you who got the at&t tri-band phones, u're lucky. not because someone unlocked it or s***, it's just that you have existing tri-band phone.

hope that clears it up once and for all... PLEASE READ AND UNDERSTAND THIS.

cheerios.

edit awarner no need to shout.
