Are you happy with the C500 despite the bugs?

I have spent a lot of time reading the posts on this forum to help me to decide whether to buy a C500.

There seem to be a lot of bugs, both firmware and hardware based.

Are those of you who have been using the phone for a while actually happy with it? I don't just mean in comparison to the older SPV models, I mean in comparison to the Symbian and Palm based smartphones and the Nokia and SE semi-smarts that are on the market now.

You need more options mate!

I have to say, I'd prefer it if it was more phone-centric. Sure it does all the phone stuff, but you get the impression that some of it is kinda hacked on and not very well thought through, from a usability POV.

However, this is my first smartphone, so I can't really comment. To be brutally honest, I prefer my old 8310, but this will make the guys at work jealous (and for £0.00, what more can you ask for?) :)

I regularly swap handsets, and have come from Symbian to MS Smartphone, back to Symbian and now back to MS Smartphone again.

The Px00's have some great features, and the range of software is better IMO, but even those phones have less than tight integration of functions.

I'm very happy with the C500 for now

I've owned a few phones and not yet found one that doesnt have some bugs. User forums are usually pepoled by people that have either found a problem and are looking for a solution or use their phone to the full and so are more likely to come across any problems.

The C500's small form factor combined with decent battery life and fantastic features make it near as damnit the perfect phone for me.

TomTom are having problems which I hope will be sorted soon and the GAPI problem with games might cause me problems (although Jawbreaker is great :)) apart from that the other "bugs" are minor iritations to me rather than problems.

All in all it is by far the best phone I have ever owned

I agree with Confucious, I swap phones all the time and this little C500 is just about as good as i've experienced. If you are looking for a bug-less cutting edge phone i'm afraid i've yet to see one.

I've had mine just a few days but am more than happy with it.

The poll is too limited for me to register a vote mate.

It basically amounts to a "it's brilliant, period" or a "I am disapointed by only certain phone call aspects of it"

There should be more choices, with a CLEAR understanding of whether each one amounts to a pro or a con...

The phone is great. I am almost quit the SPV platform 'cos IMHO the E100 and E200 were REALLY difficult to live with. Haven't encountered a single problem in my daily use (phone, interent, low-level pop email, mp3 player, movies-on-the-move) and even my missus hasn't complained too much.

:) I've had my C500 for a few weeks. I did the totally uncreative boring inexpert installation of the software that came with it and did not fiddle with anything, save ordering some memory from MoDaCo and loading a bit of shareware.

So far I've not encountered any major bugs, or if I did it was so insignificant I've forgotten it already.

As with Turbonutter, I just moved from the 8310, and overall am happy with the move. Certainly the menus are a lot messier in the C500 than the one-click-away life of Nokia phones, but hey, there's a lot more to wade through in a smartphone. (Also, the C500 rings much louder--I could never seem to hear my 8310 while in traffic on my bicycle.) I hope to eventually sort out at least the Start menu with MoDaCo forum help.

I'm especially pleased with the Auto-Sync with Outlook. I really helps me remember appointments and stay organized and all of that.

I think the C500 (on the MS platform) is like the rest of Microsoft software: if you go with the program and let Bill Gates takeover, everything goes ok. If you start fiddling, then you'll run into trouble. I'm not saying this is good (pace open-source folks), just the way it's going to be for a free phone.

Yeah I agree the results of the poll will not give a true perspective of what this phone is potentially capable of, and where it perhaps dissapoints...

There are some very good points above.

I found the phone quite limiting and dissapointing out the box (I suspect Orange may have done this on purpose???), but that soon dissappeared as I got use to it's features and free'd the phone! Now it rocks and as far as I am concerned makes ANY 'main-stream' handset look antiquated :) when I show it too my mates I can't begin to list it's capabilities - I don't even think anyone truly knows that yet either

My opinion.... JUST AWESOME

gotta disagree with you there, its the tweaking and customisation that has kept me interested in the phone as long as it has (that and the ability to develop kick ass games), the C500 is very stable even while tweaking lots of stuff on it (heard theres probs with E200 plugin, if thats the case, dont use it :)). The one thing that sets this phone appart from others for me is the amount the phone can be customised. (i';ll let you off though, you are obviously new to the MS Smartphone platform and dont yet know what the phone is capable of)

I am quite estatic about mine. this is coming from a guy who got his first phone in 2002 - (praised my 'freedom' until then) - so again it doesn't take a lot to impress me.

but,

it will after this handset!

Bit gobsmacked with it to tell you the truth. I haven't started costumizing for real yet as I am waiting for my virgin no. to be passed through this friday. will unlock there after. get a big memory card. (when the missus will allow me the money). And release it's potential. can't wait!

I still think it's a great phone, what do you think /you ?

i'm happy with mine so far, though i've only had it two weeks. the biggest pain is having to end tasks but it's not a big deal.

Dont do that, those of us who are paranoid and not getting our C500s for a week or so were panicing about how you knew!!

Im getting mine in 12 days based on the constant (and usually balanced) praise for the C500 - and Im not naive, I have gone through 4 E100s !!

Fair enough. I honestly only stumbled on to the smartphone when I was buying a second mobile for our household and thought, gee, that could be really useful. Not only is it useful, you guys actually make it look fun! But playing around with customisation is going to have to wait a few months until the PhD thesis is finished. [-o<

Recommend a book on XML? Considered writing one for Smartphones?

I think the c500 is great, performance is a good step up, everyone walks past and says "that looks cool". Everything I've tried on it so far works well.

The "joystick" does weird me out and it's gonna take a while to get used to the button layout, but THIS THING ROCKS. Movies : way better than e200, Screen brightness: way better than e200, battery life: way better than e200.
