Hi

I would avoid all wm2003 updates for the mpx, 99% of them are just copies of the @non rom that was released then withdrawn a few months ago

the only things you gain from the 2k3 update is .net applications can run on the phone now, and multipul mailboxes in the inbox

what you lose are

warrenty

mms support

the phone has less available storage and ram available to run and install apps

none of the custom orange/att plugins work

ohh and its illegal as well (thats why its withdrawn)

i hope that helps

later

Owen

This is the internet... if he knows where to look for it, he can find it...  8)

guess your rignt, ^_^ but i'm sure it would take him days or weeks to find it. or maybe 1 to 2 days if he gets lucky. i've been searching the net for three weeks now for the hellomoto version of the ROM and still no luck. :D i guess i'm stuck with the ugly cartman startup screen if i don't get lucky, i'm starting to lose hope in finding it.

hmm... I also tried looking for the Hellomoto startup ROM, but only managed to find the fat cartman too... anyway, I used an app to change my startup screen, so that doesn't really bother me anyways...

Is there a difference in performance between the Hellomoto startup and the Cartman startup ROM?

the first thing that i've noticed in the helloMoto version is that the G symbol on a black box for gprs is always on, just like my tanager (e100), unlike the cartman version which only shows when you use gprs and goes off when you reboot your phone. and i think it has few more kb of free space in storage or ipsm than the older version (not really so sure). for performace and others. i dont really know yet coz i've just flashed my phone yesterday.

best of all, i've already got the cool Hellomoto startup logo. ^_^

The second hacked version of the 2003 rom had a few alterations

as requested by those who used the cartman update.

these range from enabling multi-lingual support rather than having

to alter the registry yourself and also bringing back the moto

startup logo as a lot of ppl complained about the Cartman image.

I got a Windows Mobile 2003 Upgrade off e-bay for under $5 and it was well worth it. I was sketchy at first but when my MPX200 completely froze up for no reason I didn't have much choice.

Since I got my unlocked MPX200 off e-bay, I went searching for other options. Just in case... Well after suggestions from Motorola, a Hard Reset fixed it. Since I lost all my files, etc. I decided to try an upgrade. After some tweaks and setting changes, my MPX200 WM2003 is better then ever before.

Hmm... I am seriously considering of downgrading back to wm2002, due to the fact that my GPRS is not working. I have done all settings correctly, but it still doesn't connect to the network. Maybe downgrading back to wm2002 might do the trick. What do you people think?

BTW, I have the wm2002 and wm2003 rom with me, so I can switch back any time I want... so I have no qualms about trying wm2002. I need GPRS!!!

where you able to use your gprs connection when you were still using WM2002?, if not, then i guess that you won't be able to use gprs even when you downgrade back to WM2002. to be able to use GPRS, just like in WM2003 you would be required to input GPRS settings manually and get stuck in the same situation your in right now. unless you got your WM2002 ROM from your service provider that has the right gprs settings pre-installed (which i think is not possible). ^_^

mpx200 with wm2003 is a very nice upgrade. I downloaded it and is still using it after so long "evaluating" it. I will never return to wm2002 unless I'm forced to use MMS (which I never anyway).

things you gain, some I can recall...

- cleartype (fonts are nicer)

- more 3rd party apps will run

- can run unsigned software

- smarter input (u can switch between symbols, numbers, etc easily now)

- smarter menu layout for most commonly used selection Menus

things u might miss...

- MMS

Also, the ROM is distributed FREELY so why pay on ebay? dont encourage these money makers. Its free download off the internet, but I cant tell you where, its against the forum rules.

You can run unsigned applications on 2002 after application unlocking

which takes a few minutes to do.

You also lose a decent T9 and have less memory.

Also the phone is less stable than before with 2003.
