I have updated the original LCARS taking on board some of the comments that have been made about it.

CHANGES

a) Made it look more 'lcarsish'.

:( Gave up struggling with the colour problems. The home screen now uses a fixed colour scheme which means you won't be able to change it however you can use the colour scheme setting to change everything else.

c) Got rid of owner as I decided you tend to know who you are most of the time.

d) Added next appointment and all day event.

e) Got rid of MRU for two reasons really. I personally never use it and most importantly LCARS doesn't use icons (thay had gone out of fashion by the 24th century).

f) Got rid of the selection bar and did something more subtle.

Have a look in http://www.swuth.demon.co.uk/SPV/

Copy the two files lcars2.jpg and lcars2.home.xml into your IPSMApplication dataHome folder. I couldn't be bothered to do another CAB file :D

More great work Vanbast, but I prefer the original. Have to have icons on desktop otherwise you have to go through that awfull program list all the time.

Just my opinion

This is a question for Vanblast. The .hme file you created to install the original Lcars theme worked well, is there any way that you could knock together another one that would copy the media player skins into the windows directory? I don't know if this is even posible to do in an xml script, but if it is it would save a lot of copying and pasting every time the phone is restarted.

Please be aware I am just a newbie at these CAB files.

The .hme file is actually a renamed CAB file, not an .xml script. I have no idea why you are supposed to rename it, it still works if you don't. All a CAB file does really is store files and then copy them to the places where you tell it so it should be easy to do a CAB that would copy the media player skins.

However from what I have seen the CAB file is erased after it as done its stuff so is probably not much use for this application. What you really need is some kind of batch file like thing but I haven't seen anything like that on the SPV. Maybe there is a way to stop CAB files being erased but you'll need someone a bit more knowlegeable than me to answer that.

Cheers

Damn. Just had a play around with cab files and its a no go as far as I can see. Using a .cab extension will not work because of certification and using a .hme extension just puts everything in ISPMApplication Datahometsk. If anyone else has more experience of cab file creation could they have a go at it?

Looking at the .hme file I created and the one that Mark did I seem to be missing a setup.xml file. Perhaps that is the problem I'm having. What tool did you use to create your cab file?

I used cabwizsp.exe and just followed the instructions in the Home Screen Customisation white paper.

Well after a lot of experimentation it would seem that when using cabwizsp the only places you are allowed to copy files to is Home and Sounds. If you try anywhere else then it says you haven't got the right permissions. Presumably you need the certification palaver to get these permissions.

Oh well, it was a good try :D
