Hi

Can anyone confirm that the gprs access pack on 'Your Plan' is for WAP sites only????

Just I am considering getting an SPV but dont fancy the high cost of the GPRS after the end of April :D

Yeah

From My understanding the access Pack is only for Orange WAP services. And you get 10Mb a month.

But you cant use this for any other type of data like HTML web pages etc. :D.

So after the promotion ends you'll be looking at £25 a month for the same pack

I dont follow this, what do you mean WAP sites only?

Ive been using GPRS for everything so I presume this is included in the promo pack?

I thought the only difference between wap/normal sites where wap sites are much easier to view/use? I wasent aware of a different pricing stucture? Does this mean I will get charged for them on top of my bill/promo pack bill?

The promo pack's for everything and is well worth £6. We're talking about when that's up. There is a £4 WAP only pack, but for normal browsing it's looking expensive after the promo ends:

0.5 Mb for £4

5Mb for £15

10Mb for £25

Apparently the £6 promo has a "fair-use policy" of £10 so, if you use it as much as now the £6 is gonna rise to £25.

Luckily we can play around with it as much as we want until the promo ends and we'll probably all have calmed down our usage by then, but I like don't having to worry aboiut how much I use it :-)

Im on OVP anytime 200, and presumed I could use the free 200 mins with WAP to use the phone like GPRS but slower.

If you cant access stuff on the phone without GPRS then im afriad thats another nail in its coffin as GPRS is seriously expensive. Losing always on MS Messenger was going to be sad, losing access to normal web pages, etc just about makes it pointless having the functions on the phone unless you want to spend a fortune on GPRS :D

In Settings->Data Connections you can choose whether to have Orange GPRS or Orange WAP.

If you set it to Orange WAP you could presumably use your free WAP minutes.

If it is set for Orange GPRS then you couldn't. If it is set for Orange GPRS it presumably also looks at WAP sites through your GPRS connection, rather than through the WAP connection.

Oh nad I'm guess the Orange WAP setting will only allow you to browse WAP sites, so you can't checkily use the WAP connection for normal internet browsing.

aye, so this phone is losing most of its features unless you pay for GPRS (when bundle is over)

Errr... yeah, but if you didn't want those features then why did you buy it? There are much betetr phones on the market unless you want all the extra features.

Why do you think range are pushing it so much and making it so cheap? So they can get you on the GPRS/Calls. Remember this phone costs A LOT more than you bought it for...

I bought it to be able to use UNSIGNED software, and access the web (which I though wouldnt be GPRS only) and you have no idea how much I payed for it :D

You can use CSD for Internet access instead of GPRS if you want. It's set up for the now defunct Orange ISP, which seems a bit daft, but there's nothing to stop you using another ISP account.
