C500

I've tried for a long time and read different threads on different forums but i cannot find a solution. What happens is when i try to update from my dutch 4.1.3.0 rom to 4.1.1.4. The screen with the progress bar pops up but at the same time my activesync icon on my pc goes gray. Then i get "294 invalid vender id"

I've tried to do it in bootloader (canary). Setting language to uk. disabling firewalls. etcetc. It wont work. What do i need to do to get it updated?

I'm not sure that removing the SIMLock will help. If the ROM you have is checking the vendor then just removing the SIMLock is unlikely to change that. I don't think you will be able to do it until your vendor releases an update.

I could, of course, be wrong.

Let us know how you get on.

Sorry to say, but you ARE wrong :-)

Whenever someone here in DK wants to run this update, they meet this problem. I updated yet another C500 only a few days ago, and as always I had to remove the simlock first...

Don't be sorry, if you know it works then I've learned something. I just didn't want him to try somethin that I didn't "think" would work. Now I know it does so thanks :)

Well, there is another way. What the flasher program does, is check the phone by issuing a rruinfo command. Now if you could hexedit the flasher program to not call 'rruinfo', it would skip the checking, and thus you'd have a problem free flash. Now unfortunatly, I'm not skilled enough to do this, knowing no ARM or x86 ASM, and I can't tell one from the other. (So, I don't know if the computer is issuing the command, or the computer sends a program to the phone which then executes it), nor would I know how to not make it execute the rruinfo. Maybe someone else?

(Information from www.spv-developer.com, the "RomUpdateUtility Patching" wiki page is not available):

The command "rruinfo" is sent to the phone. The response is tested to ensure the rom operator and version is allowed. See ?RomUpdateUtility Patching for information on how to remove these checks.

There is no free sim-unlock option, for the moment being...

The SDA of T-Mobile is sim-unlocked and have the same problem with the "vendor id"... :)

Very weird...

Whell, i speak of the T-Mobile SDA Business.

I have tested with one rom update from clubimate for the SP3i and another from Orange C500, with the same result, error with the "vendor id".

I restored the backuped ROM from mini-SD... :)

Any idea?

I had exactly the same problem; bought a c500s back in January and had issues with the keypad, so wanted to upgrade to 4.1.1.4 to fix the problem. (It seems only silver c500s were a problem; my friend has a black c500 and his ROM* was the later version anyway.) I tried and tried on my computer (Windows XP Prof) and like you, the ActiveSync always greyed out halfway through and I got that same error message! After getting so exasperated, I thought I'd give it a go on my dad's computer (Windows 2000). And guess what? It worked. I don't know if XP had anything to do with it - I'm sure a lot of people would argue it didn't - but first time on Windows 2000 and it completed (and the keypad issue got resolved too :D). Admittedly my handset was 4.1.1.0 before, not 4.1.3.0 like yours, but it's just a suggestion.

Hope you manage to fix it :D

flirtini - your phone was a UK phone to start with and being a C500 I assume was allready an Orange phone? If so you shouldn't have had the same error as the others are trying to update phones from different vendors which is why they have the problem.

Confucious, I'm not sure I understand your point... From what I see, the people having ROM update issues here aren't just those with non-UK and/or non-Orange phone models; maybe I have misunderstood this. I only offered my suggestion because I experienced exactly the same problems as nexxexium described; I was aware his phone was Dutch and mine English, but I did state that in my original post. The ROM update I used was from the Orange site itself but I felt it relevant to type up my solution as I had been through the same issue, and wanted to share it on the offchance it might benefit someone else.

Sorry, I wasn't having a go or anything and didn't mean to appear rude. I should have said wellcome to the forums in my last post but I didn't so I will now - "Wellcome to the forums!"

My point was if your phone is a C500 from the UK it should be an Orange phone. Is it? If so you should NOT be getting the "294 invalid vender id" message as the ROM is from the same vendor (ie Orange UK)

Can you confirm that your phone is an Orange UK C500 and the error message you got was indeed "294 invalid vender id"? If so there ios something seriously wrong.

I also had the invalid vendor ID error but using the unlocking tool (costs £20) it changes something in the bootloader I believe and I was able to reflash my c500 with a different rom image with no trouble I think the unlock does more than just remove the sim lock

For everyone else who's having this problem, simply get [...]

Let me know if it works.

Hmmm... how's that? You recommend something and you don't even know if it works?
