As what it was useful to announce the a little front contest, since Jeremy Magne a member of the forum (pseudo: gglaspi), proposes his creation to us and that starts rather very extremely in software quality!
Spreadsheet SP is spreadsheet making it possible to publish textual files with format CSV (Comma Separated Values).
- Systems: Smartphone 2003 only.
- recognized Separators: the point comma (:D, the comma (), the stick (|).
- Languages available: French, English
- Functions: to open, close, record, new file.
- Modifications: Cell, Ajouter/supprimer of the lines, Ajouter/supprimer of the columns.
- Posting: Afficher/masquer the line of the headings.

Spreadsheet SP is thus proposed in its first Beta version, naturally its author await your remarks and suggestions through forum of MobiSmart in order to improving the software and which it answers the user expectations.

Is this what I think it is!  :D/

Will have to give it a try tomorrow, and I'm not sure that it does any calulations or anything, but on the face of it... it's only a bloody spreadsheet app for the Smartphone isn't it!

Cool!   :D

Shame on MS for not coming up with something like this before!

[EDIT]
Looks like it DOES do calculations, based on the screenshot here:

Two points about this program.

First of all it shows how really difficult it is to try and use a spreadsheet on a mobile phone, no wonder Microsoft did not port Pocket Excel to the SmartPhone platform.

Secondly I'm not sure if its me but I tried a simple vat spreadsheet and unless I have dont it wrong it gets the wrong answer

How do you enter calculations - I've not even managed to get that far yet - but with results like those i'm not sure wether it's worth it!

Nice to see a spreadsheet being made  :D

A couple of problems so far.

1 It doesn't seem to include decimal places in calculations  :P

2 It takes too long time to enter formulas.  It could probably so with some pre-defined formulas that can be selected and edited.

Apart fromm that it looks quite promising  :D I hope they continue working on it.

Hi Confucious, first of all make sure you have downloaded v0.5 (it took me a few times to find it)

Move to which cell you want and begin the entry with = to refer to other cells use [1:2] notation (painful on the smartphone) and enter the formula like in Excel.

E.G. To make COL2 total the contents of COL0 and COL1 use this for the formula...

=[1:1]+[1:2]

Where did you find the Beta 5 version. I searched the site but it's all in a different language.

Please reply with direct link.

This is the only spreadsheet available for smartphones?  MS should really pull their finger out!
Can anyone understand any of that mobysmart forum and see if he says anything about how he's getting on with development?  I'd like to get a SPV C500 but I can't justify getting rid of my Dell Axim unless there's some sort of spreadsheet I can use.

Hi everybody,

Sorry for my late contribution to this forum.
I'm the one developping Spreadsheet SP because I also miss Excel on my Smartphone.

Latest version of Spreadsheet SP is currently Beta 5.

Next release will correct som few bugs, increase permormances and maybe a major evolution :  the support of XML Spreadsheet generated by MS Excel.

I will let you know.

PS : I'm also working oin translating my website into english. Currently only som technical menus are translated.. not content.

gglaspi - Thanks, we're looking forward to the next version.. Can you explain the calculation discrepancy in Dr_StrangeTrick’s screenshot?

There seem to be quite a few French programmers for the SmartPhone which is great – what is not so great is. What is not so great is the total lack of French speakers among us. I can’t speak for anyone else but for myself I apologise for my lack of language skills and thank you for taking the time and effort to translate into English.

Will you post here when the next version comes out or should we just keep checking your website?

Keep up the good work and welcome to the forums   :D

Hi guys,

The calculation issue was related to the decimal separator (french is a coma while english is a point)
This should be solved but could not test it.
Could you do give me a feed back here ?

Thx

I'm planning my wedding at the moment and have a spreadsheet with all the costs on it on my laptop. I decided to install your beta for the first time today to see if I could use it to keep track of the costs on the move. First impressions are that the product is a good start. I have encountered several problems with it and have some general comments and suggestions which I've made below. I fully understand that this is a free beta app but felt that you might find some feedback useful.

For your information I'm running the spreadsheet on an Orange C500 with the latest UK ROM update installed and am using English as my preferred language in your program.

Problems

1. The program doesn't handle CSV's with blank lines in. If I load a CSV in with three blank lines in between 2 sets of data the program only displays the first set of data. When importng the same spreadsheet I had a series of cells with (null) in it.

2. When I change the value of a cell the change doesn't show up in the main spreadsheet area, it only shows in the edit area. If I save and reopen the file the change is shown correctly.

3. When you exit the program it doesn't prompt you to save the file you are working on.

4. Option 7 under the main menu has no function.

5. You can copy a cell but you can't paste it since there is no key to do that.

Comments

1. I'm not sure you can use the official MS Excel icon for the program.

2. I don't think there is a need to change the seperator using the 1 key. I repeatedly found myself pressing 1 to enter a number only to find that the spreadsheet had changed to a single column sheet.

Suggestions

1. On the open file option you should be able to click on a file to open it.

2. It would be nice to have a most recent files opened list to speed up opening of spreadsheets

3. It would be nice if the program displayed currency symbols.

4. It would be nice to be able to rotate the display to landscape mode.

5. It would be nice if the program displayed column letters and row numbers.

6. It would be nice to be able to use the Back key to delete the contents of a cell.

7. It would be nice to be able to move to a cell then type into it straight away.

8. The program should default to 123 mode for data entry.

9. It would be nice if the program worked like Excel and allowed you to select a cell, type = then move the cursor to the cell you want to use in a calculation.

10. It would be nice if the program did date calculations.

11. The program should show the current file name in the title bar.

12. Get rid of the Exit menu and add it to the right hand menu. This will give you another complete menu to do more stuff with.

13. Is the Pocket Excel file format (.pxl) an open standard? If it is it would be great if the spreadsheet could use that. That way when we copy data from PC to phone, ActiveSync will automatically change the format.

Copy and paste uses same shortcut key : 3
You can paste only if you copied first

I installed the latest version. On the splash screen it says Spreadsheet SP (v1.0). Sorry about all the comments and suggestions but you did ask for feedback :D
