Windows Media Player 10 Petition

Just got off the phone with Orange, who have echoed what's been written elsewhere in the forum about WMP10 - they have no intention of releasing it, or, if they do, it will be on a new phone.

Personally, I don't think this attitude is acceptable for what Orange are touting as their flagline business phone. WMP9 has huge flaws and WMP10 is already available for other phones.

Hopefully, if enough C500 users will add their support (by posting in the thread) I can point Orange at it and an associated number of disillusioned customers. I bought a C500 on the premise that WMP10 would be released in an update, and it's obviously not going to happen.

You bought a C500 on the premis that it would be upgraded to WMP10? What gave you cause to believe that premis was true? I've never seen anything but rumour about WMP10.

I don't really think all the petitions in the world will make a slight bit of difference TBH. I'd be happy enough with the rumour of a ROM update, but even that seems to be too much to ask.

I dont think you will get anywhere at all with this. Why should they release it as an update? It would be nice, I agree, but contrary to what your post seems to say, WMP 9 is hardly hugely flawed and more than does the job. It would cost Orange more in licences to Microsoft to give us WMP10 and they arent going to do it on a phone that will be obsolete in a few months anyways, especially as whats on the phone works! I am just happy that they are including it in their new SPV range.

I have to admit, I can see nothing in it for Orange to go to the time and expense to release another ROM with WMP10 on it. They've already released a new ROM that fixed all the problems (OK, except some of the minor problems!) so why would they bother?

Also, WMP9 works fine on the phone, and anything extra you might want it to do is catered for very nicely by third part apps - the main reason for owning a smartphone in the first! Besides, if you have a phone that's got WMP9, PV Player, PocketTV and Betaplayer on it, what else is WMP10 going to add to the party except a simple, no brainer alternative to what we've already got?

P.S. If the phone could play all these amazing, great formats as soon as you get it out of the box (when you're warm and glowy from new-phone-syndrome), you'd miss out on the warm, glowy feeling a week or so later when you watch your first ripped DVD on Betaplayer!

Not interested in WMP10 or 110 for that matter

I use BetaPlayer, which is much better IMO, it's FREE and doesn't require a ROM update

WMP9 or WMP10 makes no difference to me at all

Ok Betaplayer great it works ok.. but there are a number of people like myself who have bought a Windows Media Center 2005 PC so I can synchronise my recorded TV shows with a WMP10 enabled device.. I really want to use my C500 for that and because of WMP10 not being available from orange its not possible.. I would even pay for it but there is NO way to get it if orange is not kind enough to release it to us!

So my vote is here..!

Well, isn't there a C500-compatible device with WMP10? If Zone-MR from www.spv-developer.com pumps out a new version of his NbfTool, you could edit that ROM's header file and thus make it flashable on the SPV C500, and voila, you have your WMP10

Didnt I read somewhere that one of the SPV C500's "cousins" from overseas was shipped with Media Player 10? If so, would it not be possible for someone to extract it and post it so you could update it yourself?

Windows Media Player would be good, but there are more pressing issues like the tsss bug that are in far more need of attention (and probably a ROM update) than a new Media Player (considering we already got a few of those already).

The whole point of WMP10 is so those of us with Media Centre PCs can link our phone up in the evening, and have it stocked up with video and audio the next day.

Unfortunately, I haven't found any third party software that'll do that. Also, what's to say Orange even have to pay for a WMP license? They licensed Windows Mobile 2003 - one would assume that includes WMP10 when it's released.

I understand your frustration, just saying that there are more pressing issues that orange should look after. I mean, what use is media file synchronization when you cant listen to that media properly in the the first place? :D

Long time since I've been here, bet nobody remembers me 8)

Anyway, back on track. A number of months back, there was an article about Windows Media Player 10 mobile posted on http://bink.nu (One of the team were at Miscrosoft for a convention). Behind the speaker was a large picture of a C500 complete with Orange logo, proclaiming it to include MP10!

False advertising or what (In front of some 100 to 200 MVP's)!

Happy as I am with my C500, I am not happy at Orange for pulling a stunt like that.

Not without precedent either- their MPx200 displays in the Orange shops in December '03 (when I bought mine) stated very clearly that the phones featured Windows Mobile 2003, when in fact they were 2002. Still no sign of any upgrade from O...

I feel bad that such a relatively small phone company like sagem with a basically unknow windows smartphone releases a WM10 update while Orange customers get nothing.

Perhaps someone need to inform that their competitior offered a free upgrade of WMP10. Hopefully Orange will wake up and offers it too? Someone call Orange?

Count me in as well! 8)

I want WMP10 on my C500, although I am not convinced that Orange would care about our petition. For them, the "if it works, don't fix it" seems to do the job. Adding WMP10 means more testing, maybe a new ROM release after a few months to correct bugs, and even some decrease in performance!

I'll add my support for WMP10 as it's newer but in reality I have no problem with WMP9. I don't use it anyway I use BetaPlayer.

I use Winamp and WMP6.4 on my PC. I only use WMP10 for creating WMA files from CDs.

Do you need to copy the whole ROM? Has anyone tried coping just the WMP executable (and maybe a DLL or two) from the Audiovox 5600 to a C500? Resco Explorer will let you copy a file from ROM to the Storage directory on your phone and from there you can then copy it to your PC. It may take up some of your RAM, but it should work (in theory).
