Recieved an email from the BatMax Corp. about their battery extending product, BatMax. Hopefully i'll be getting some samples for review so watch this space.

BatMax is a small (1.14 x 1.92 in – 29 x 50 mm) rectangular sticker which is installed in seconds by the user on the mobile phone battery. Users just need to turn-off the mobile, remove the battery and attach BatMax to the battery or the cellphone. After re-assembling and turning on the mobile phone, BatMax starts its effect on the battery and users will notice a battery life improvement after 5 to 10 charging cycles.

Another sticker claim, this same method was and possibly same company was discussed about a year ago with similar claims.
A company that was started last year that has a product with years of laboratory research?


The main thing that worries me is their poor advice

In the above statement they do not explain different types of batteries
while Ni-cd and Ni-mh can and should be fully discharged, Li-ion batteries which are now in most moble phones must never be fully discharged as this damages the capacitance of the battery and will shorten it's life.

Li-ion batteries suffer much less pronounced memory effect but as this is charge related (as in only giving part charges and not full charge) with Ni-cd batteries this claim is not possible. Li-ion batteries on the otherhand, prefer to be topped up on a regular basis but no battery should be charged for only a few minutes etc.

They have an interesting design with sales pitch and it would be nice to actually have a probuct that can help to prolong the battery life.
This would be interesting to test.

If I can get a sample I will do a side by side test with two original SPVs without SIM cards, as reception can give false results between units.

Their site does not list any distributors apart from themselves so it looks like it may be a long wait until people can actually buy the product.

Does sound like a slightly dodgy "miracle" cure to me!

A new special metal, that only has to be stuck next to a battery, will increase the effectiveness of all battery types, regardless of their chemical composition?

Hmm......

I think I'll keep my sceptics hat on for a little while longer!

These have been talked about on modaco before - the overall feedback was that there was no noticable difference in the battery life :S

Short version of the old saying - if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

If you could develop a sticker to increase your battery life, which will develop and release it first - one of the big electronics companies, or a little outfit nobodies ever heard of?

Put me down as a sceptic!

As is typical of such devices, there are pages of impressive diagrams and test results, but the "several prestigious institutions, laboratories and universities" that have tested and documented this wonder material are remain unnamed. Note that they state it's the "material" that they tested - not the product - and they don't say what it's tested for, or how relevant those tests were to their application. For all we know, the "material" could be tin foil which has been tested and documented on how well it wraps roast turkey.

The test results themselves are notable by the absence of specifics - the only model numbers they quote are for two bits of test equipment. The final caveat says it all really:-

"These graphs are a compilation of several different tests and can not be held as contractual or indicating an absolute reference of accurate results for any user."

I suspect that the "material" comes from the same oil refinery as the widely touted stick-on-battery "signal boosters", and that the benefits will be just as effective.

The good news is that if you buy one and it doesn't work you can always scrape it off the battery, stick it on the back of the phone, and increase your reception up to eight times!

Most likely results are the same  

BTW there is no even a single name of phone number on their Contacts page. Also there is now mail address of the company - only a fake picture of some anonymous building.

Overall impression - THIS IS A SCAM

I gess you didn't try it. I make a serious test (as serious as possible) I have compared.

It works, I have get 1 day more battery (about 30%); 3 days instead of 2 days usualy, this is great ( I'am also surprise ). I'am thinking to buy one for my notebook .

Absolute snake oil. You probably just refreshed your battery and recalibrated your battery meter by doing the initial deep discharge/charging cycle they suggest.

Amazing. I love people that speak about product without testing it. It's crazy. From my side, I'm convinced and I'm not alone.
I bought 2 batmax for me and my wife, one for an old pda and one for my mobile phone. After 2 weeks I double my battery life, for both my cell and my pda.   That's simple. And just to tell it's not a scientific test, but just the result of something everybody can measure: time. Easy. Try it and you'll see.

..and going to the Order site lists prices in Pounds, but the PayPal link converts back to the dollar value, in pounds; so the £11.95 PDA version will cost £21.95 + £2.50 P&P, with no way of adjusting.

I'd have risked a fiver just to say I'd tried it, but not £25 with postage

you need to learn (to read); I am black-dog and the other guy is robsoni. And I am suspicious too about 100%. My "user test" show me 30% but not 100%.  I am sorry but I do not have any test device.

I am quite sure that you need a batmax for you brain (sorry, I don't know where to get one )

anyway I give you my feed back :
My Qtek S200 battery was at 73% and I use TCPMP for viewing 100 mn movies and then it was at 52%. I've never test this case but it's seems to be significant. It's my feeling and my experience.

and this will be my very last contribution? Some of you  are not realy serious in this forum. You not even paid 9 USD for a try. But YOU KNOW EVERYTHING.

black-dog - Yes I can read. That's why I said "both posters". Plural. Geddit?

As I said before, the perceived improvement is probably just due to deep-cycling the battery, which can revitilise it a little and also recalibrates the internal battery "meter". The lab "tests" will be much the same as they're doing full charge/discharges in succession which rarely happens in real life. (Note they gave no details on what the history/charge pattern of the battery was before they began the tests). If you don't believe that can make a difference (even to Lithium), look on TreoCentral for posts on maximising battery life on the Treo 680.

Still, if you're happy with your purchase, that's fine. I guess it's only a matter of time before manufacturers find out about this amazing discovery and start supplying them as standard with all their phones and PDAs.
