I've heard two stories :

(1) GPRS disconnects when the phone goes into standby
(2) GPRS disconnects when the phone goes into standby, but not if you are running an app using GPRS at the time (such as MSN Messenger).

Which is correct?  (2) seems entirely reasonable to me - but (1) doesn't sound very good at all...

The correct answer is (2).

The pre-release phones did indeed have scenario (1), but this was fixed by the development team in time for release!



One of the main reasons for me buying an SPV was MSN Messenger, which I can definitely say STAYS CONNECTED when the screen goes off!

Indeed, excellent - I'm very tempted by the SPV, however am still confused about the £6/month "pack" for "unlimited" GPRS.  Is it really unlimited, i.e. no GPRS fees other than the £6/month?

I think it will be unlimited, so long as you don't take the mickey!

The official acceptable use limit is a miserly 10MB, but I doubt Orange would enforce it unless you really abused the service.

If they day, they would almost certainly face trade descriptions problems, as 10MB is a long way from unlimited!

Ah I see - so it's a bit like a "be sensible" cap - well, that's good enough for me.  How does MSN Messenger work - acceptable/quick?
