E200 Dead ! Can some one help

Guys,

I've just upgraded to a C500 - got a cracking deal including the CoPilot satnav for free.

Anyway, I was planning on being a generous chappie and giving my old e200 to a friend. So I wanted to sim unlock the phone and reflash the rom - give him an out-the-box setup that he can bung his PAYG sim in from another network.

I extracted the orange rom (RUU_v2.62_OrangeUK_2.7.1.1_Ship.exe) to a directory on my HDD and applied the E200unlock.exe on it. This reported to have complete OK.

On trying to flash the (unlocked) rom to the phone, things went badly wrong. Basically the Orange flashing util reported there was an error in communication and quit trying to flash the phone. The phone is now in a poorly state - but I'm hoping that it can be recovered.

The phone, now when switching on, just goes straight into the bootloader, but will not go any further. If I try the hard reset approach the only option available (item 8 in the menu) is "RUU RECOV" (which I assume is recovery). Selecting this seems to reboot the phone but again only as far as the boot loader. I've tried this several tomes.

Strangely, with the phone switched off, connecting the power lead automatically switches the phone on - all the way to boot loader. Though there are no LEDs lit up.

I can't reflash from the PC as "Windows does not recognise the USB device" and so none of the orange rom jobbies will even talk to the phone.

I'm really hoping that this thing can be recovered. Perhaps I can reflash the phone from an SD card. This would be the simplest solution, but I don't have a backup of the original rom.

Any advice is really very welcome, or if someone has a rom backup on an SD (any version) and some de-structions on how to get the phone to recover from an SD that they can let me have a copy of, then please PM me, and you can ftp it to me.

Please - any help welcome. Thanks in advance of any time taken to reply.

Might be a silly question but do you have activesync 3.8 installed and windows xp with service pack 2? as these help a lot!!

I'm running ActiveSync 3.8, but winXP SP1.

I'll try it on a SP2 machine tomorrow (i'm keeping this as SP1 for other reasons), but I suspect that that may not make much difference. Fingers crossed though.

In the mean time if anyone is prepared to do a rom backup to an SD card, and is willing to ftp this to me, please PM me.

Thanks again.
