Problem is that there was no such thing as a C500 when I bought the 8390. Going by specs, the 8390 seemed to be the best thing going and, to be honest, it had the potential to be a very cool phone and the phone isn't really the problem, mitac is the problem. Bugs can be fixed if the people that caused them care but everyone at mitac could be dead, cold and buried and still not care less about the junk they push out the door.
Sorry to be so ambiguous, Stu. I usually try to let my feelings known but I'm not the most open kind of guy. ;-) In reality, I'm a pretty easy-going kind of guy. If you doubt me, head over to howardforums.com and read my rant in the T-Mobile section concerning how great their customer service is and how pleasant they were yesterday. No sarcasm there, they did their job and I was happy as could be and let it be known because I appreciated it. So it took quite a bit to push me to the point of writing this rant and I mean every word of it. In fact, I emailed every address I know of at mitac from past correspondences and sent this link. The last time I did that, they actually went and read it and got pretty upset that their users were supporting their trash better than they were. Maybe you'll recall how they went public and said they'd fix the GAPI problem and post the fixed ROM on their web site. That, of course, was complete bullsh*t and I knew it even at the time. So I'm hoping they all go and read it this time, too, and maybe get a sense of what kind of reputation they have as a company.
Finally, I posted the phone for sale here but I didn't get one PM or message. Not a single one. Stereo headset with mic and mute button, extra heavy-duty battery, Boxwave USB connector....not a nibble. And I'm not at all surprised but I told my wife I'd post it for sale so I did. I'll post it on ebay eventually and if I can get the $187 I spent for the E200 and shipping from the UK, I'll be ecstatic. Anyway, I'm glad I'm not the only one who considers the 8390 junk and mitac a completely worthless joke of a company.
Oh! If you didn't see my post elsewhere....several years ago I retired a computer to the basement after it's power supply went up in smoke, literally. There was smoke and flame. So a couple days ago I needed a 12v fan for something or another and figured I'd dig one out of an old computer (being a programmer, I have tons of old junk in the basement) so I started going through old boxes and came across the one with the burned up power supply and who's name was on that supply? Why mitac, of course! I laughed for a long time over that one. I'm laughing just passing along the story now!
Edit: Had to fix a couple typos. I'm a programmer, not an English major. :-)
