Has anyone seen this scheme yet?  
You sign up on a web site .  Plunk down 20 or 30 bucks for a CD or some other equally worthless product and you get put on a list and eventually get the phone of your choice.

Now I was doing the math and based on the lists I see, basically, it's anywhere from a 6 week to 8 month wait.

what's the deal?  am I missing something?

such schemes are illegal and very dodgy. in most the first few people who sign up get there item, paid for by the people who sign up after them, but seeing as each item will rewuire maybe 4 - 5 more people to sign up to pay for it the scheme eventually fails, leaving the person who started it, and a few others well off and everyone else loosing out on there cash...
