Hi,

Don't know about anyone else, but I hate having a dedicated key on the keypad for a site I never use, am never likely to use and don't like paying money for if I catch accidently (yeah I know, keylock etc but still)

So,

Don't know if its been done already but I've reprogrammed the T-Zones Key to do something else...if anyone wants to know, heres how (registry editor is a pre-requisite!)

Goto HKCU\Software\T-Mobile\t-zones

Hit "Values"

Rename URL to URLA or something else

Create a new String and call it URL

Yep, you guessed it, enter the path of what you want your re-programmed T-Zones key to do (for example enter the value as "\Windows\calc.exe" and it'll open calculator)

The only downside is that it'll make the t-zones shortcut in the start menu do the same thing, but im working on a way around that!

That's all folks!

I've had my SDA a week (and I'm deeply in love with it!) so please excuse this slightly dumb question. I've got as far as being ready to enter the new path string (I want to assign the key to Mobipocket, a fab fab program) but how on earth do you enter the backslash symbol?! I need to enter \Storage\Program Files\MobiPocket but I've tried everything and I know it'll be something simple so can anyone help me out?

Cheers

Figured this out yet mate?

I had the same problem as you ;)

Hold the spacebar key for a few seconds and a symbols list will be displayed :D

Have fun!

Yeah, cheers - found it out the other week by accident! Can't believe it wasn't in the manual or anything, I was going nuts about it. Was a bit scared of fiddling around with the registry but have now programmed it bring up Mobipocket a prog which I'm now a big fan of. Glad to see some other people with SDAs on here!

Hi,

I own a T-Mobile SDA but I checked the registry and there is no entry with the name 'T-Mobile' under 'HKCU\Software'. Any other way to reassign the 'Button'. I want to similarly reassign the 'Mail' button also. Any solution for the same?

Hey guys. Just got my T-Mobile SDA yesterday. My previous phone was a Symbian Series 60 Nokia 6600, and I just had to switch to WM5. The SDA is amazing! Just a fantastic device and I'm really pleased with it.

Anyway, I hope this response doesn't come too late... To remap the T-Zones (or any other key on your SDA, for that matter):

Plug your SDA into your PC

Explore your SDA and go to the windows folder.

Locate these files:

Short_AP1

Short_AP2

Short_AP3

Short_AP4

1 - being the t-zones key

2 - being the rewind key

3 - being the play key

4 - being the forward key

Copy these files to your PC

Open with notepad

We'll use Short_AP1 as an example. When you open it with notepad, you'll see this:

19#\Windows\iexplore.exe http://my.t-mobile.com

All you have to do is change the URL to whatever you want

Now say you dont want a link, but a program, you just have to manually type in the directory and have it point to the *.exe file of your choice.

Now save the file, and upload them back onto your SDA in the same directory (but make a backup of your originals just in case)

Now reboot and you should be good to go. It should work, my T-Zones key takes me to the Task Manager.

Oh, and as for the other keys, here's what they are if you want to change those too:

Short_Camera - Camera Key

Short_POC - key above the volume keys

Hope this helps.

I just did this and it words great... for those who were wondering, Short_AP1 ends up looking like this:

19#\Windows\IA_Task_Manager.exe

Thanks!

I just wanted to say Thanks.

Editing the shortcuts worked for me

I changed the T-Zones key to http://www.google.com/xhtml. Among other things, Google's mobile page re-formats regular web sites to work on mobile devices. ;)

One note: since the files get copied over as shortcuts (there is a hidden .lnk extension), I had to use the command prompt to manually edit the files. the file names all have a hidden ".lnk" extension on the end. Windows hides the .lnk extension, which is the same as Windows shortcuts use (but the file is not the same format as a Windows shortcut.)

So, in short (no pun intended), you need to go to the command prompt, CD to the directory you copied the files to, and type

"attrib -r -s -h" (this makes the files writable and visible in DOS)

"notepad short_ap1.lnk" to edit shortcut 1.

guys, is it possible to do this on Qtek 8100?

in my phone's Windows folder, the only one i can find is Short_AP1 (IE Shortcut key), but i can't take it off the device to edit, edit in place, or move it.

(in fact, aside from the shortcut keys question, if anyone knows how i can get around this inability to move or edit files in "windows", please enlighten me, as there are a few things in there i'd like to edit, or even just view.)

i've just been to see Mission : Impossible III, so don't be telling me that things can't be done, now ;)

I'm probably just a bit dim here but I'm new to the phone hacking and need some help. I've got the US SDA and have edited the file to change the T-Mobile key, but my phone won't let me copy the hacked file back over. How do I do that? Also, what are you all using to edit the registry on your SDAs? Are you using an editor on your phone or on your computer. PHM Registry Editor looks like it might be a bit out dated for WM5.

Just make sure read-only is not checked, open notepad and open from there.... Much easier.

Crap... just make sure you know how to change the paths. I tried to set one to open the games folder and I must have not entered a space in Windows\Startmenu\Games because when i pushed this one it froze up and I had to hard reboot.

Anyone know if I need to underscore or anything??

19#\Windows\Startmenu\Games <-------- this is what i put.

Ok, same problem as some of you guys with the USA T-MO SDA... I sucessfully copied the lnk file onto my computer and sucessfully edited it - BUT I can't delete the ORIGINAL from my SDA because it's some sort of read-only system file, and when I try to change the permissions and properties, it won't let me change that. So I can't get my newly edited file to replace the old one! Please, somebody, isn't there anything we can do?

swivel, I'm trying to do the exactly same thing. How did you get around the file permissions issue? Or is this some new thing from T-Mo?

Im trying to switch the PLAY button on my SDA phone to use it on anything else but MEDIA PLAYER. But I keep getting erros on my phone saying it cant locate the file im trying to switch it to. I tried switching it to TCPMP, Pocket Player and nothing... i even installed them onto my storage card and phone memory and still says it cant locate the file. I used CEnopepad and copied and pasted. I switched it back to media player and that works fine again. I switched the T-mobile button to task manager fine.

Anyone know why?
