Should I get the SPV C500 or not?

I have read the reviews and the forum and have come to the opinion that this is a very good phone. Mobileshop is doing an excellent deal on this as well of 12 months half-price line rental and free bluetooth headset and dongle. Works out at £138 and includes 100 anytime cross-net minutes and 100 texts for first three months.

One thing that does concern me is the dust problem that I've read about - enough to put me off?

Secondly black or silver? Only Orange themselves seem to have the silver version but their website quotes £49.99 at £15 per month unless I can persuade them otherwise? I have just finished one contract at £15 pm and currently still have an OVP Virgin contract. Is it worth asking or a waste of time with my billing spend?

Would appreciate some advice - also leaning towards a Samsung D500.

Welcome to the forum  :D

Get the C500.

I have not had the dust problem and I actually think the black version looks better.

Are you the only one without the dust problem or just that everybody here with the problem lives in a dusty area

My fathers had a C500 since December which he carries in his shirt pocket and leaves around the house. No dust.

Is that the 120mins+30 free txts tariff? I got that online but the contract was actually for 18 months. When I upgraded last week I asked for the same tariff, but I'm not sure if I'm still paying the £15/month or not...

Granted many have had problems but many more (most ?) haven't.

I live next to a timber yard and my C500 is about the only thing in my house that doesn't attract a coating of dust

Yes that was the tariff but it was only for 12 months as far as I'm aware. When I asked when my contract was up the date I was given was 12 months. I had been looking at the Orange site and it seemed to suggest something about 18 months so i wasn't sure what wa going on.

Can I ask what they charged you for the upgrade? I've still got an OVP Virging sim and wondered about asking orange about a deal with the C500 if I changed off that tariff. However Mobileshop's deal of 12 months half-price line rental with free bluetooth headset and dongle looks more promising.

for all the bugs with the c500, I've found it to be far more stable and usable than my mpx200. I'd say go for it. I was hesitant at the time too, but through lack of options I chose it. It's a nice little phone..

Go for the C500 - every man and their dog has a d500.

Why would anyone want a D500? I suppose the dogs might for something to chew on.....

I've got a C500 (with dust - I'm the sad person who stuck on the instructions for stripping the phone to get it out) and my other half has the D500.

The D500 looks sweeter and gets more attention - until I start watching Top Gun or Shrek2 on the C500, or load up an old SNES game and start playing it, or control my PC from across the room using the phone, or.....

In short, if you're looking for a phone then either the D500 or C500 will be an excellent choice. If you're looking for a toy, a gadget and a way of life - there is no question, get the C500.

P.S. Recently played with the girlfriend's D500. Seems really freaky now that you cannot change the homescreen layout, or the looks of the menu, or change the font, or add new programs on (except some JAVA games that you have to pay for - although there's a way round this listed in the "Other phones" section now!). It really opened my eyes to how much I've taken my Smartphone for granted and just how, well, limited all other phones are.

I had the old spv, then played with the e200, now bought a c500 with a cracked screen mind you...but sorting that one out. Trying to figure out if I could use the screen from an e200 for the repair...Can say though that krusell is one of the best cases I've seen, and I'm one of those that's hard to please. Can someone give me some guidance regarding the dvd to smartphone process and where I can get the required software? :D

I had a Mpx200 and was so fed up with waiting for the Mpx220, I upgraded to a D500.

Looked at it in the shop and thought what a great phone. Took it home and within 1 hour realised my big mistake... Once you have had a smartphone you will never ever want to go back to a normal phone. I fell for usual crap, ie. the D500 has email and 1.3m camera and calendar , mp3 player.... however, the memory is not expandable, the mp3 is really fussy, calendar doesnt sync well, camera average, and I can go on and on..

I had to beg with Orange to reverse out my upgrade, since upgrades in the shops are not covered with their normal 14 day return policy... Finally they gave in and swapped for a C500... Best smartphone out today!!!

I've just ordered mine on Orange Pay As You Go after being so impressed with my mpx200 when used with an Orange SIM card (was on o2 that blocked everything as far as wap/internet is concerned). Looks like a great phone, hope I'm not disappointed!

Seraphic - you won't be!

Every phone I've ever had I've loved for the first week, liked for the next two months, tolerated for another month or so and then hated until my year contract expired. This stopped as soon as I got my first SPV (original one). I never got a chance to get bored with it because every few days I added another thing onto it. I'm not talking a new JAVA game, I mean adding the ability to play full movies, remote control my laptop from around the room, and change ANYTHING about the phone.

I've since upgraded to a C500 as it's smaller, more reliable (IMHO) and wasn't as fussy about the resolution of the films I was asking it to play.

Seraphic - you won't be disappointed. Just keep your eye on MoDaCo and CoolSmartPhone and you'll have a new toy to play with at least once a fortnight, you'll never have the time to be disappointed! :D
