M2000 ordered... A few questions

Hi all, its been a while since i last posted here, mainly because my e200 has been so reliable i've not needed any advice. also i have had a lot of things to do keeping me away from my computer.

anyways. today i phoned orange to pay my bill and set up a direct debit, after this i decided to speak to one of the upgrade people, i told them i was interested in the M2000 and posibly changing my talk plan to a slightly cheaper one. the first price the rep gave me was for a straight upgrade which worked out at $250 (excuse the $ sign, im using a US layout keyboard so substitute $ for UK sterling) needless to say $250 is a bit much for any phone no matter how good it may be.

i asked the rep if he could give me a beter price, he then had a play with my talk plan and came up with a cost of $99 which although is still quite a lot for a phone, it is certainly cheap for a PDA. so i decided to go with the price of $99.

so if any of you are having problems with the m2000 costing too much ask them to have a play with your account and see what they can do for you.

now for the questions...

1. I plan to use my M2000 as a GPS system but require Ordnance Survey topographical level mapping as i will be using the system to navigate through green lanes in my 4X4. So far the only software i have found to do this is the Fugawi software. have any of you here used the Fugawi software on the M2000?

2. I have heard of a lot of people experiencing problems with BlueTooth GPS recievers, so i'm tempted to get a wired version. What gps receivers are availiable for the M2000.

3. i would also like an in car cradle, is there one available or do i need to get one of those universal ones?

4. another thing i will need is a bluetooth headset. are there any that are especially good, and more importantly are there any i should avoid?

i think that is about all for this long post.

thanks in advance.

this BT reciver is fantastic

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...item=5771621617

I use it intensivey for work, and it has never let me down! it connects great, works inside buildings most of the time, and this company on ebay shippied it super fast!

its also tiny, and comes with a car and mains charger. Simple to install, and even easier to use.

Nice one tis exactly what i am looking for, i hate having excess cables making things look messy, and the brodit TX RX +5V active holder has it all.

As i said i dont want a bluetooth GPS receiver i've heard and now experineced first hand the poor performance. i was playing with a garmin bluetooth gps on my friends laptop, as soon as another bluetooth enabled device came anywhere neer the computer made the hardware removed sound, the gps returned to operation when the other bluetooth device is out of range.

thanks

Ryan.

One point to note, this could be the BT chip on the laptop. I'm guessing it's a Toshiba? It's a known problem with some Tosh models as they use a proprietary (ie - very cheap) BT chipset. Also, they don't use the MS BT stack. Don't be put off just because of this - it does work.

I don't have any of these problems with a BT receiver, and I often use several BT devices in the car, including a colleague using a laptop, mobile and headset whilst I'm using a headset and the GPS. Never had any of them dropping a connection. I actually switched from a wired GPS unit - which had problems acquiring satellites a lot of the time.

I'm looking to upgrade my C500 to an M2000 at the end of the month and I was curious as to how much it would cost to upgrade. Thanks for posting deejayry, as i thought I'd be lumbered with a hefty £250 upgrade fee!

I currently spend £30 per month on my C500 contract and would be happy to continue with the plan that I currently get.

How much jiggling did the Orange Rep do with your plan to get you down to £99? I'm dubious to call them as I've had some shocking customer service experiences. Plus it might give me some ammunition if I could recount another person's experiences.

hello all

..er, i too was offered an original price of £250. after laughing down the phone at the poor orange rep she put me through to retentions. i explained that each time i upgrade my history with orange goes back to zero, even though i signed up with them back in november '96. having realised i had a valid point, the dear chap wittled the price down to £64. i still complained at the price, but it was the best he could do apparently. realising i was not going to get any further i agreed to that price. i'm happy with my spv m2000... very happy. to be honest, i would have been happy even if i had to pay the full £250.

ps. i'm on er... talktime 30, but if you're on a higher talk plan the price will come down easily. good luck... ;)

pps. anyone else remember the philips multiline pager orange gave away to customers ? anyone wanna buy my one off me :??:

well its only 12 hours before i get my mitts on a m2000 and i cant bloody wait, its like christmas. I just hoped its all its cracked up to be and its not going to be a massive dissapointment.

On another note, orange customer servies, i ask you.........

"hi, i just wanted to check my upgrade date"

" your contract runs out tomorrow sir, but your upgrade isnt for another 9 months"

"eh?"

"well as you went onto the premier package last month you now have to wait 9 months for an upgrade as per the terms and conditions"

"you sure?, as the point of a 12month contract is it ends after 21 months and not 21."

"Very sure sir, the only way around it is to come off the premier service for a month, downgrade get your upgrade and then upgrade back to premier"

"fair doo's then, cheers c ya"

I then went to the web site to look at the t &c's and it mentions nothing about this, i rang back orange and she opperator there said the other person must be on a illegal substance and was talking utter crap and she was sprry i had to listen to it.

Honestly, and i pay £55 a month for that service!!!!

12 hours, la lalal laal lalal lal l a lalalalal,
