Problem opening a large file in pocket word

Hello,

My device is an i-mate Jam. At the time of trying to do this, I have 27MB of free program memory.

I'm trying to open a 3.5mb, 500 page, word document with pocket word. First I tried to convert it to Pocket Word format using ActiveSync, but it would fail. I didn't get any errors, but the ActiveSync window and the File Explorer window would close abruptly.

I decided to transfer the document to the device without conversion. When I try to open it, I get the error: "Due to the size of the file, an access error was encountered while opening the file".

Then my device would lock up for about 30 seconds and Pocket Word would crash. I tried to open it again just for the hell of it, and I got a dialog box saying "Save To: [Pocket Word Format] [Microsoft Word Format] [Cancel]" so I chose Pocket Word Format. The file size was reduced to 1.77mb.

When I try to open the 1.77mb file, Pocket Word displays the first page of it, but impossible to scroll. As soon as you try to, the program crashes silently. It just closes itself abruptly and doesn't appear in the list of running programs anymore.

Any help or advice on what to do with this will be appreciated. Even if it's just "don't try to open a 500 page word document on your Jam because it'll never work".

UPDATE: reaching the limitations of the device ;)

As a last resort, I've tried saving the file from word in HTML. I got a .htm plus a folder with the 4-5 pictures. When I open this file in Internet Explorer on my Pocket PC, it loads very well, but after loading 200 pages, it starts going berzerk. All I see on the screen is things like this:

:D It seems I wont be able to carry this big file in any way on my Pocket PC.

I've tried converting the document to PDF, but since Adobe Reader for PPC displays a full page on the screen, it's too small and impossible to read. If I zoom in, then I have to scroll from left to right, even with the PPC in landscape mode. This is very annoying, and does not fully resolve my problem.

If anyone has any suggestions as to what I can do, please let me know.

This goes on & on and finally IE stops trying to load anything. The first 200 pages are still viewable perfectly fine, but that's not quite what I want.

Then, I found out that in MS Words' save dialog you can save the file in PPC format. When I did it, it told me that the file was truncated at 8096 lines ;) It seems I wont be able to carry this big file in any way on my Pocket PC.

You could enable reflow on adobe acrobat and it will reformat the document for the ppc screen.

Try spliting the doc in to several files, say 100 pages at a time, OK so you may have 3 or 4 files but you could just call them part 1 , part 2 etc.. The files size may then be small enough to open in pocket word
