Summary of MPX-220 Problems

Hello, I am considering buying an MPX-220 on ebay. But with all the problems I am wondering if it is even worth the hassle. Have the ROM updates fixed anything?

I know each person has their own little problems with the phone, but in general what are the general issues with the phone.

I'm not going to use the phone for bluetooth or for email or internet.

I will just be using it for text messages, calendar organizing, and sending/receiving calls, taking pictures.

Basically I want a phone with excellent reception and I thought this would be a good one.

Or should I consider the LG VX7000?

THanks

I love mine for all of the reasons that you want to have one. I use it for calls, syncing with my computer at work for contact, calander, and appointment information via outlook, and for that "quick picture" - you know, the one that you would normally miss because you don't have a camera with you.

I was getting ready to post a new topic "if it really worths keeping a mpx220".. I have it for almost 6 months.

1. No turning off problems

2. Excellent reception

3. Acceptable camera quality (only with latest ROM)

4. Volume through speaker louder (with latest ROM)

5. Battery lasts for max 3 days if you use it for the tasks you decribe (sms, photos etc).

Another great thing about this phone is that I learned SO SO SO many things about hardware/software/OS of these smartphone during my long lasting and persistent attempts to make it a usable phone and avoid the thought of "have I just wasted $350?" And finally to get the most of this phone and Windows like WM10 you need to get the chinese ROM and spend some extra hours tweaking and regediting to make things work (btw all tweaks are gone if you do a hard reset so you have to get a registry backup utility as well).

As a final word to these, I would like to say that the speakerphone, no matter the ROM updates it is STILL A PIECE OF $#@%. It is loud, but sound is distorted at the point I hate the phone when I'm in a conversation.

Yes guys, no matter the ROM updates no matter anything, I paid a lot of money and simply the volume does not meet my expectations. Why? A few days ago I used for 1 minute a Nokia 6600 (which I had and sold to get the mpx220) and I was so amazed by the clarity and quality of volume. Even my good old Nokia 6110 (8 year old phone) has better spekaerphone than this.

Of course this is my personal opinion about the phone. Some people use it and it seems that they don't mind the low quality sound. I do mind and I will sell this phone as soon as a real and high quality smartphone comes out.

I love mine - wouldn't trade it for anythig else. It does what I need it to do and then some. No reception problems, no volume problems (especially since the 1.43 ROM upgrade), never turns off unless I want it to, no problems with battery, charging. It's a great phone as far as I'm concerned.

As I said, volume is loud (agree with you) indeed but the sound quality is totally inferior compared to other lower class phones.

goldeagleb, Maybe I'm just lucky, but I've never had any of the problems listed. The latest roms give you WMP10 and a speed boost. Get the MPx220 - you won't regret it!

Haha great! You're posts are encouraging.

BTW what is the speed boost?

Also, is the sound quality issue just with the speaker phone?

How is the quality and loudness of the regular phone.

Speed boost definately makes it the fastest smartphone around - I currently have MPx220, MPx200, C500 and SDA, so I'm not just guessing at this.

The sound issue with the speakerphone can still cause distortion, but then it can on speakerphone on most devices at sometime or other.

Loudness is fine - still not the best, but loud enough - don't let that put you off. Anyway, I use a BT headset most of the time, so that's not an issue for me.

Having said all that, the C500 and SDA are great phones too. In summary: If you prefer flip-phones get the MPx220, If you prefer candy-bar phones, get one of the others.

I recommend the mpx220. Its a great phone. I have ROM 3.45 and have no problems at all. The volume is loud and the sound is clear. I think the differences with sound quality might have more to do with the network than the phone. The phone is fast and runs games very well. The directional pad is huge and perfect for gaming, you can turn the phone on its side and use it like a normal controller (works great playing games on the NES emulator).

I've had the 220 for about 6 months now and I just received my replacement in the mail. Had to get the connection just right to get it to charge and the volume in the ear piece was still very bad even after I did the update to the new ROM. My replacement works better, but the volume in the ear piece still stinks compaired to other phones. Besides that (and it could be just me), I love the phone. I had the 200 before and upgraded to the 220 because they are great phones. Can't wait for the new version. :)
