Could have cried.

Got my nice new PSP home last night, it starts up and there must be about 8 dead pixels in an area the size of my thumb.

Been on the phone trying to get it sorted this morning :evil:

Thats well beyond the acceptable limit!

Come people have tried running a special video to clear dead pixels but I havent heard any success stories yet.

i was talking to some engineers from our research and development department about that, when i showed them the program, they laughed their bo**ocks off, said it was absolutely impossible for that software to fix a hardware problem.

I'd sure Sony will replace it, they have before for others. (US tho). There is a limit to the amount of dead pixels the law says you have to put up with, and 8 is definitely more than that.

I think it's three on TFT screens. This is all from my hazy memory though, so it could all be b***s :)

The other thing to bear in mind, is that when Sony replace it, they'll stick V2.0 firmware on it. So try and get it swapped out at the shop I would!

TFT manufacturers adhere to the ISO standard which has 3 categories I, II, and III

I = no dead pixels

II = 2 for 1024 768 res or 3 for 1280 1024 res

III = 6 for 1024 768, 7(!) for 1280 1024

if you want to get into sub pixels, a class III will allow 66 dead sub pixels!!!

if sony apply something like this to their PSP, they're probably only allowing one, if any dead pixels. depending on the screen res ;)

The pixel fix program actually worked for me...although i had three constantly (white) lit pixels as opposed to 'dead' pixels (which i assume means pixels that remain off at all times).

Ran the program on repeat for a couple of hours and they're now all gone - alot happier :)

That can help but the psp seems to have a thicker plastic screen covering making it difficult to apply precise pressure to a particular area.

Has everyone upgraded to 2.0? I'm tempted to now as i think the web browser alone outweights any benefits i would get from homebrew...

I collected my PSP Thursday morning from GAME in Leeds. Had a curved line in white on the inside of the screen when I turned it on. When off it was not there. I retured it at lunch time without any problem. They replaced it after seeing the line in the screen. Looked like a load of stuck pixels.

Dead pixels != Stuck pixels. Dead pixels cannot be fixed. They are black. Stuck pixels are pixels that are stuck on a specific colour (possibly white). The Stuck pixel dooda is actually a pulsating video that you put on repeat, and sometimes it gets the pixels going again. Once they are going they are fine. Give it a try - you have nothing to lose.

If you take it back and they are not happy, remember the 14day right to return the goods for a full refund.. and the fact that the screen is "not fit for purpose".

My current PSP is superb. Playing Untold Legends and TOCA. _Really_ looking forward to the downgrader for some homebrew action *cough*

Good news!

When speaking to someone in the customer services department she told me that 'they' had recieved an email about units with dead pixels from Sony and that replacing the unit wouldn't be an issue.

Took it back to the store (HMV Oxford St) and they replaced it over the counter as soon as I told them the problem.

Have had a 1000K since may that I bought in the US, couldn't test at the time so no returns, had a question mark - shaped line of stuck white pixels until I started playing FIFA soccer a week ago, now all is well :-)

The Software fix IS NOT FOR DEAD pixels, jut stuck ones, all it does is cycle through the different native colours with a bit of luck they 'unstick'. Mine (US 1001, v1.50, yes homebrew RULES) has 1 dead pixel towards the top, not really that bothered can hardly ever see it anyhow.

I got one dodgy pixel, it's right in the middle, occasionally shows up as white but not a major drama.. That annoys me cos I know it's there but 8 is bad, send it back

Had my PSP on the UK launch day, worked perfectly, now only yesterday, 2 dead pixels appeared that were not there earlier that day :evil: :evil:

Bought the PSP from my work, so will ask my boss to see if it can be repaired or swapped out, very dissapointed with the dead pixels, it's only 6 days old :cry: :cry:

After a couple of days of having mine a few stuck pixels have shown up! Not to bad as they are quite dull so once the screen goes to a brighter colour they're gone.

Hopefully no more will show up.

Was only on the phone to Sony for about a minute, I thought they might either say dead pixels are normal put up with it or they would repair the console and send it back to me, was shocked that he said, no problem, you will have a replacement by tomorrow, I was impressed :(

Sony UK service 10 out of 10 :o
