Anyone care to comment on battery life?

I know the device has barely made the market yet but it seems some of you, including our illustrious leader Paul, have managed to get your hands on the Universal.

I'm curious as to whether the battery life achieved by the HTC Magician which tends to last about 3days between charges has been improved upon. Seems unlikely given the new VGA resolution and extra features of the device.

Anyone care to share their experience?

Hi

I have the phone for about 24 hours and my first impression about the battery life is good...

Of course it cant be the same like the Qtek S100, but for all the features it is not bad!

Wireless Lan is draining the battery really fast...

I think before people really comment on average battery life, they need to get past the first few days use where they will be playing with all the features and testing things out. I know I've chewed up the battery quite quickly since I got my JasJar yesterday. But I've also plugged it in to sync on more than one occasion. I will probably only be able to judge normal battery life after about the first week of use. It does claim to have about 10 days standby and about 5 hours talktime though, so we'll just have to see. Here are the official specs from i-mate:

Standby time

    -GSM: 220~260 hours

    -WCDMA 190~250 hours

  Talk time (Screen off):

    -GSM: 5~8 hours

    -WCDMA: 2~4 hours

I seriously doubt it too. I've not used the phone for too much today. I've paired it with my car kit, and checked my email once via 3G and looked at a web page, and since about 11am, the battery life has gone from 100% to 87%.

I'll be happy if it improves even just a little on the Mda III (Blue Angel) 2 days standy with a little use.

So far this is what my Exec seems to be managing battery wise....

Well the battery drops like a lead balloon on mine. Not happy at all especially as I havent even started using it for voice calls yet (main no. to be ported). At 63% so far today having come off charge at around 8.15 am. Made one 2 minute voicecall, no gprs or 3g data as cannot get it to work, keeps dropping signal. Dare not use this for playing MP3 or or connecting to wi-fi as it will be off before 6. Yesterday it managed almost 12 hrs, played mp3 for 30 mins, 1 min video call and an hour or so of flicking through menu's with 50% screen brightness. My M2000 was yards better plus it came with 2 batteries. Could be a great tool but dare not stray far from power if you want to use it. Also piggish slow, and phone will not restart until reset after I stop all programmes to free up memory.

Have I got a "wrong un" or are all you out there singing the prasies wearing rose tinted spectacles?

@73bugcab: I can't comment as haven't used one but would be interested to hear which version of the Universal you have? You say that after closing all programs in task manager (or is it Memory / Running Programs like on the Blue Angel?) it won't function right again until a reset. Is it an XDA Exec?

One of the members has suggested the that XDA Exec task manager/memory manager is able to 'see' the phone app and that on closing it the phone becomes unstable. If so this has gotta be the first major bug on the Universal...

Have O2 Exec. Problem only occurs when you shut down phone with task manager. If you go to settings, memory, running prog, stop all. it will shut down all others leaving phone fine. Battery life still well below other reports but O2 sorted my data, browsing in 3g.

Last charged my o2 Exec overnight on Thursday night/Friday morning and it's currently sitting at 18% after approx: -

20 minutes of calls

30 minutes MP3's

15 minutes video

2 hours GPRS internet, email & o2 active

30 text messages sent and received

4 hours Configuring odds and bobs, finding where everything is, playing with ringtones, updating contacts, using the camera, etc, etc, etc.

(sync cable has not been attached since Thursday evening)

No real use apart from a lot of messing as you do when you have a new phone but battery life seems fine to me so far.

O.K new battery time for me. Watched 15 mins of simpsons, browsed web for around 45 mins (painfully slow but on a rural train journey) and less than 3 mins of voice calls battery down to 13% by 4pm. (having taken off charge at 6.45 am). Still thinking maybe this is a bad phone as it hangs, freezes and is terribly slow, i mean sometimes 10 or 20 seconds to switch apps. Any feedback from other exec users?

They did the same with the M2000 offering a spare battery.

Very very useful when you've gotta be away from the charger for a while. I had to invest in one but have no regrets as allows me to play with the MDA III for double the time! ;)

Have to say after using my mda pro for a few days now i am very happy with battery life, i can remember using my mda 2 and 3 and always having to keep my eye on the battery status.

The mda pro is way more stable and i can call on it and play games for a while without having to worry about battery life. Not checked yet how long it works on a full loading. But up till now it looks very promissing, and i am sure when there will be some updates this new Universal device will rock.
