Excellent! Was hoping this would be so after Microsoft announced the end of the distinction between Pocket PC Phone edition and Smartphone in WM5.

Can anyone confirm? (note: @thereaperman, hope you don't mind I edited the title to a large S for Smartphone to ensure no confusion)

And while we're on the subject, how about those with WM5 Smartphones, how do they react to Pocket PC software?!

Are you talking about Smartphone software written for WM5 or Smartphone software pre WM5?

I have loaded programs and all have worked very well:

Agile Messenger (still free on ppc)
Wififofum (wifi sniffer)

I have not yet added any additional today screen plugs as I am still skeptical to buying something that might not work.  If anyone knows of free plugs please post up.

I think i remember reading an artcle saying that WM5 PPC's will run Smartphone apps but not the other way around. I believe this is a limitation of the Smartphones not being able to interpret and convert the touch screen commands into into the soft keys or menus.

I'm getting my K-JAM next week (hopefully they will get them in stock as promised), and i can't wait to move from the SP3i to the Wizard / K-JAM, it sure is getting some good reviews.

Regards,
Chris

This may be a dumb question, but does this mean smartphone today screens and plugins can also work on wm5?

Yes the today screens work just fine.  I have not tried any plugins yet, but it has been confirmed that some do not work.  Trial and error is the only true way, of course this creates an issue if you plan on purchasing. My recommendation try the free ones and any that you plan on buying confirm with the vendor if it is wm5 compatible, if they don't know ask if your purchase is refundable before buying.  Common sense, but I figured I would say it anyway.
