Has anyone else had a problem with tomtom nav 5 crashing on an M500.

Whenever I try to browse the map it crashes and has to be re-started.

May be a lack of memory. :o

Yes, it mainly seems to be when I try to browse the map and pan, everything hangs and then crashes out of TT. It looks like a lack of mem probably there is only 64k in the m500

works fine on mine, try stopping all running programs or even a different memory card.

Mine was crashing until I disabled the Tom Tom Points Of Interest. Now it's working fine :o

Hi,

This is known problem with some pirated copies of Tom Tom 5. Apparently the person who cracked it made a bit of mess of some of it.

Not saying your copy is pirated but I saw this somewhere. Disabling POIs can help in some cases.

Mine hangs when I try to use it with the card contents copied onto my 1gig SD card. I have disabled POI's, and am on the version 5.10 (July update). It works fine for a while and then crashes (map stops moving and pressing anything gives a white screen with "start" at the top) - requiring a soft reset (a scary thing to do on M25!!!)

If I use the Official [original] card then it works fine.

I think that its a problem with my 1gig SD card, but it is annoying, as I now have to leave the pukker tomtom SD card in my car for when I need it and then swap each day for MP3's on my other card.

A bit of further info.

It is a pukka licenced copy, but it had been copied onto a Viking 1 gig card to get the france and benelux maps on at the same time.

with the original card it is fine, also now with an unbranded 512 card it is fine.

I was also getting problems with it crashing out whilst on the move.

I am pretty sure this is because the 1 gig card is fractionally thinner than the original card and the 512 card and when the car hit a bump it lost its connection to the phone.

to look at the cards you could not tell the difference but that is the only theory I can come up with.

Anyone got any other ideas?

One thing I noticed on mine last week.

I was on a journey one day last week and when I came up to a particular roundabout to join the motorway, tomtom crashed.

On the way back coming off the motorway to the same round about, crashed again.

A couple of days later I had to go over the roundabout, not onto the motorway but to a different place over the roundabout. Anyway, at exactly the same place approaching the roundabout as before tomtom crashed. And again approaching the roundabout on the way back.

This is the only time/place that tomtom has crashed on me, seems a bit too coincidental that it's all been around the same place.

Just make sure that you dont crash at the roundabout whilst watching tomtom crash there ;)

How do you restart it handsfree?

I'm sure you wouldn't be manhandling your PPC whilst doing 90mph on the motorway.

Hit me whilst speeding and playing with your phone and you might live to regret it. Or you might not. I lost two brothers to road accidents, it aint big or clever.

Hey guys. its the dodgy copy of Tomtm that you've all got thats causing the crashing problem. Its your POI dat file thats corrupt. It should be around 8MB in size. not 1.3 like Ive seen on other dodgy copies,

Hope hathelps resolve your prob

Hi,

I had the same problems. I disabled all the poi and made sure I had at least 60% free memory. I installed everything on my memory card nothing on the m500 memory. I only have the speed camera POI enabled. Normally I would soft restart the m500 before using Tom Tom, to free up all the memory. Trust me I got it working this way and have tested on long journeys.
