Not being funny, but in what capacity does your wife work for Orange? How can she be sure?

There's been loads of "Yes they have" and "No they haven't posts". Several conflicting ones come from people who work for Orange.

That's the problem. The M1500 is in no way a replacement/direct substitute for the M500. It's like comparing a walkie talkie and a discrete ear piece!

The wife works in the local high street shop in Scotland and was told yesterday that they are "winding down" the M500 and that the M5000 is taking its place .

The M5000 taking the M500s place?! :-k

If Orange think THOSE two are alternatives then they really need to work on their market research. They're at totally different ends of the scale! One is a tiny Pocket PC device and the other is as big as a Pocket PC comes without being a laptop! In truth it's more a palm top then Pocket PC!

Orange cracks me up, they really do! ;)

Thread starter is incorrect.

It is quite the opposite from my end of Orange, we've been informed on the Weekly Trading Feedback (WTF!) that HTC are busy fulfilling a massive order for Orange, and they should be in stores towards the end of Oct/early November.

The m500 has its own captive market, which the M1500 and M5000 will never replace - except the M600 due out next year.

So please don't believe rumour ;)

That M600, is it the HTC Prophet (previously known as HTC Athena & also misunderstood as Xda Atom)?

Specs: Edge, GPRS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 416Mhz Intel, FM Radio, 2 Megapixels

Camera with Flash.

Form Factor: Similar size as Magician but Slimmer.

I have just been speaking to a helpful chap on the O upgrade line who has advised me that the M500 has been taken off their stock for the moment but nobody knows why.

He did say that there is a rumour it has been given a few updates and will soon be re-launched as the M600 but he did emphasise that it was only a rumour.

I have seen an M500 for the first time today (I know, where have I been?) and am really quite impressed by it. I would be very interested in the possibility of the M600 with improved features providing it keeps the same form factor - very nice size and weight!

No idea of time-scale unfortunately but it may be worth hanging on for some of you guys itching to get your mitts on an M500!

And your source is...?

Many of us have been anticipating the launch of the HTC Wizard on Orange, probably under the guise of the SPV M600.

And what do you mean about the HTC Athena being misunderstood as the XDA Atom? Do you mean it'll have a different name or...?

Well this is the Prophet, apparently, and if that turns out to be the M600 it should be worth the extra few months wait.

I've had a M500 on order since the end of August...

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Nice photoshop image :?: Oh, and I see MSmobiles has changed his mind again about the HTC Athena being made by HTC (or not). That's twice so far...

I'm inclined to disbelieve that 'news' item for the time being. If you want to know about a device that has actually been handled see the O2 XDA Atom here. I'm assuming this IS an HTC device and that it is the HTC Athena. Time will tell of course...

EDIT: Just done some digging to try and find out where the reference to HTC Prophet comes from. The result? The only source I can find is msmobiles.com when they hosted an "HTC Roadmap". The source of this roadmap is not stated and given the number of inaccuracies in it (incorrect device brand names, etc) I wouldn't give it much credance.
