Just spoke to Orange Premier to pay my bill and took the opportunity to make enquiries. Apparently the handset is showing up as having been 'launched', though only to new customers. The chap I spoke to suggested that it's common practice for Orange to release new handsets to new connections only "for the first month or so", but after speaking to one of his colleagues, he said that the M5000 was expected to be available for upgrades "in around two weeks".

Bugger.

As I've mentioned before - we are changing over all our phones from Vodaphone to Orange. Took delivery of around 35 SPV 500s last week or so.....Orange are cutting over all our PAC codes at the end of next week......

and....

We have been promised (in the last couple of days from our account manager) our 4 M5000s this week (which only leaves tomorrow for them to arrive???)

Just phoned Orange CS, They have the phone! WooHoo! but its only going out to people on a waiting list, and they're not adding anyone to the list!

Which is slightly annoying as everytime i rang up and asked if there was a waiting list i was told there is no waiting list for the phone!

Atleast the phone is in stock now! but sadly i'll probably never see it as they'll sell out before i get my hands on one!

According to retentions, the phone is indeed in stock, but only available for new customers.

As regards the waiting list, there's only individual calling lists that operators can set up, no automatic waiting list until the phone actually appears on the system as an upgrade. The stock levels are showing as '0', but that doesn't mean they've got none in stock, it just means they've not made it available on upgrade yet. Because of that, they can't even work out what price they can do it for.

It could be available on upgrade at any time. This may be today, or it may not be for a week.

This reminds me of the Nationwide advert on telly at the moment - 'for new customers only!'.

Quite honestly i'm prepared to get a new connection if it means that i can get it sooner! I'll probably get a better deal aswell... because even though they reward there loyal customers, i've never personally seen any of these rewards!

What retentions have said is that on my account (Premier 400), if the phone is showing as less that £200, they can discount this down to being free.

Orange are apparently not discounting the phone for new customers, so it's possible you may get a better deal on the phone if you upgrade.

Unless you are referring to the various extras they offer new customers such as millions of texts and free evening calls?

yeah, i was told id get £260 off the price, but still, that means nothing if they havent actually got the thing!

let me know if i comes available on upgrade anytime soon and ill upgrade to it, otherwise ill just get a new contract.

Thanks for the continued updates guys. Much appreciated. Just waiting to hear back from Orange regarding my scenario (Big business account with £400 a month spend) Ill let you know when my manager gets back to me.

Yeah... i used to change my account annually, as that got me the best deal!

For instance when i last got a new contract about 2 years ago i had 300 minutes and 500 text messages for 18 months, thos messages have now run out so i have to buy a bundle, so i think the price of the phone kind of balances out!

I did ask the guy if i could get it quicker by cancelling my contract and getting a new one and he said no!

*EXCUSE THE LONG*

pffft, On phone to them now. The lovely northern katie is telling me its not been released, yet I call two hours ago and told it had JUST gone live price might be on today if not tomorrow.

So what im doing is going to a lovely help full lady in technical that I know who might be able to find something.

What I find funny is that calls are recorded, they should listen to each call I have made for the past week and listen to how many different stories I have heard. I've called at least 6 times and got 5 different stories.

Ah, just speaking to Vicky, and she said it IS live today, says so on the "front page". "Top of the list" apparently, so If you call up and they say it's not released today. Say to them that you've been told to ask them to look at their front page.

No upgrade price though but she's just checking. And god help me their hold music sucks ass. Good thing about is it that they only play half the song. God NOO James blunt. I hate this song. Its more than enough to drive me to O2 just to get off the hold music.

Im telling orange upgrades that the only thing that's keeping me with orange at the moment is that I'm holding out for the handset price, as I could get a better deal on o2.

Ooo JK! Feels just like it should! YEEEAAEHHH *or something*

Basically on O2 I can get more minuets for the same price, I'll loose 250 txts (currently getting 1000 free). But im not to bothered as I don’t send more than 700 MAX.

Oooo she's back, phone still not showing on the upgrade system, so now shes going through to Retentions to plead my case. Is that how you spell retentions.

*current song* Where did all the good people go

I like this song. Anyone know who did it so I can buy the album, oh no bother as I can google it later. In fact might do that now instead of writing rubbish and filling up the forum.

Rentions say that they cant give me a price but for rough idea they say the m1500 would be £34.99 and the m200 £54.99 but that due to a huge discount due to me thinking about leaving. £145 discount. Loyalty im being told!

Well he said that yes it has gone live today. Stock will start coming in but he hasn't got anything that tells him when he can start selling it and for how much.

He's added me to the "list" which basically I am being led to believe is just a call back saying how much the unit would cost individually to you.

Hope this ramble helps or elevates some of the stress we are going through.

One thing both "viki/vicky" and the retentions guy said was that they are being bombarded with calls about the hand set today. More than usual!

Lets get on their case and make the suckers give us the hand set! wooo

No, seriously, it just shows what a large community there is on the web that want this handset and what good communication WE have. It is a pity that orange don’t have the same level of communication!

John

EDIT: It was Jack Johnson that song. *hums*

Well that was an entertaining post if nothing else! Your right about the strength of community a place like Modaco fosters. There is obviously a huge buzz surrounding the handset ... And deservedly so. I'm glad the Orange people are being bombarded with calls too... If it makes them re-asses their approach to handset relases then that is a good thing.

I think the first person here to get a M5000 from Orange as an upgrade deserves a bloody medal.

i just joined this board, and have been monitoring it for months, just for the release of the SPV M5000, i havent had anything to add till now!!

Im on Orange Premier 600, been with them for 4years now, i have really wanted this phone for ages, and since it has appeared on their website, i have been phoning them EVERY day, just to piss them off more than anything, because they were pissing me off by not releasing it.

today, as posted earlier, it was released, joy of joys, i even had butterflies (im a geek) then the news of no stock, i was pissed to say the least. so i hung up and phoned again, this time i connected to a really helpful guy.

he said that, the phone was released, to EVERYONE, and the reason they had no stock was because they hadnt had any delievered, and because they had no stock, they couldnt give me an exact price, but he said it would be about £100 and i could get it discounted, whoooop!

he said they was expecting it to go live, today or tomoz!! big whoop

but i think this could be to stop people leaving orange, so they can now say its released but they aint got any "stock".

"and they proberbly wont for another month if u ask me"

This is just the biggest insult......wait for months, have dates put back and put back then told its released but we have no stock? How do they have the cheek to say that. I gave up after 10 yrs on arange 2 weeks ago and got an O2 Exec. free £35 500 mins 100 texts (doubled for 6 mnth). If you are planning to use mobile data then forget Orange, their prices are ridiculous in comparison to o2 data packages (75 mb for £18.50)
