How do you use your M5000

OK, so I've now had my M5000 for 4 or 5 days, but whats the most ergonomic way to use it as a phone!

I did get a bluetooth headset, but I only really use this for driving (I don't like sitting at my desk looking like the borg with my headset on all day).

Keeping the M5000 in the supplied case with the screen closed is just no use. By the time you get it out, swivel the display and try to answer I've always missed the call.

Keeping the display open and in the case is an option, but again - it takes time to get out and answer and is a pain to carry.

So whats the options. There are a few nice cases appearing. The PDAair.com

metal one is just too high tech looking for me.

I dont' like their leather one and you'll need to unclip it, open the cover, and then answer

The Peil Frama one is nice

But I had a Peil Frama case for my E200 and the pop stud just kept coming off and dropping my phone (I don't want to do that with my M5000), and I don't think there is a belt clip.

So far the front runner is this one

A bit like the case that came with the M2000. Nice horizontal belt clip (doesn't get in the way when you sit down), magnetic clip (nicer than the Peil Frama) and simple to access.

I think I'd keep the M5000 in there with the screen turned outwards (basically like I had my M2000).

So how do you use yours? and what works best for you.....

Interestingly, we bought about 50 new phones off orange (only 4 M5000s) and the Orange business rep offered us additional handsets for the M5000 users....just to make calls....seems pointless tough.

I bought the ADVERTISING SPAM case before I received the phone because I thought it seemed ideal. I was wrong. while the case is ideal for for protecting and carrying the phone it is 100% impossible to make a voice call with the phone in this case without a bluetooth solution. It is just to snug of a fit to take the phone in and out frequently. Plus you have to deal witht the flap. Stupid, just stupid.

The 3rd case you list would be best for my needs at least. I will probably order that tonight.

Here is how I find I am using the phone:

At home or work I leave it open in laptop mode. When I get a call I then turn the screen around (facing out).

Occasionally I will take a call when the phone is in the supplied case. I just keep the phone closed and use the outside buttons.

In the car I use my TomTom 500 as the handsfree kit.

On the whole I am really pleased so far!

interesting stuff. like others if the phone rings while the phone is in the leather holder, and that's in your pocket its going to be touch and go whether you get to answer on time. it's a shame you can at least answer calls while it's in the wallet - i.e. through some hole cutouts.

I've decided in this type of scenario, I'm going to get myself a BT headset with caller display. I'll keep my headset in the pocket and whip it out when I get a call.

I'm currently using a Plantronics M3000, but without knowing who's calling I may get caught out sometimes.

Interestingly - I understand from some other posts that HTC only show the caller's number and NOT their name on the BT headsets with caller display. Some issue over their BT stack implementation and profile and services (just warning what I've read - I've not tried it)

It does only show the number on the Jabra BT800, i can tell you that from experience! but saying that i personally find this OK at the moment, i normally have an idea of who is calling before i answer it, if they do bring out an update that displays the name then all the better.

I tend to use this for making/ receiving calls all the time now, obviously there are occasions when i don't have the bluetooth headset on me or the bluetooth turned on, and this normally results in me missing the call as i'm trying to get the phone out of my pocket and its case to answer it. I don't keep the headset on all the time as i think it looks a little silly, i just keep it in my pocket, and when the call comes through i look at the screen and then answer it.

I may be wrong, but I think there's a couple of devices that will allow you to transfer your phone book over.

I understand the phone only passes the number over, and the headset/car kit then matches it to the number stored in it's memory. As I said, I could be wrong, but that's how it worked with my Nokia 6310.

This does seem to be true. Strangely, my C500 started out like that, then an Orange ROM update seemed to sort that and my TomTom GO500 started showing the full Caller ID. Hopefully, the same can be done to bring that functionality back to the M5000.

in the office I use my m5000 in laptop mode. I've got ms voice command installed which I highly recommend.

when I'm out walking in town or in the car I have it in the leather holder - screen facing out. I can use ms voice command to tell the phone to do whatever I need it to do.
