M5000 and MS voice command

I'm thinking of buying voice command, but does anyone know if it can be activated when the screen is closed - in other words, say the screen has been closed for some time, and I wanna make a call, does it wake the device up and work if I press the key I have nominated for commands?

What I dont want is to have to open the device to press the key to speak the number, cuz thats kinda defeating the object to my mind!

Well I downloaded the trial version and installed it. The answer is NO! - You have to nominate a hardware button, but if you nominate say the 'camera' button, the setting that says 'do not deactivate buttons when on standby' does not work. This means you have to open the screen, take the device out of standby and press the button to activate a voice command. No good for making calls when the device goes to sleep, however, the software is VERY good. You can get battery status, missed calls spoken to you, but the best feature is someone telling you who is calling you when the device screen is closed. This works straight out of the box (so to speak!), and uses the entries in the contacts address book to notify you who is calling...very nice ;)

I use voice command on my T-mobile MDA-PRO, i've assigned it to the button used for the in-built voice dialer, works fine when the device is closed. also there is a hack you can do that means when you use a head set to activate voice dial it call voice command instead of the in-built version.

Thought I would give tis a try as it would be great for knowing who is calling when the device is closed.

Anyone know why it only speaks the incomming call through the tiny speaker on top so you can not hear it over the ring tone?

yeah trouble is there are external buttons on the device, which could be assigned, however, when the device is closed, the buttons do not work. There is a setting which says do not disable keys, but this doesn't work. They also don't lightup, which is also annoying. Thing is I don't use a headset, but would like to make a call with the screen shut using voice command. It would appear this is not possible unless anyone else knows a way?

When receiving a call the voice is much too quiet. Even though the ringtone itself is on maximum volume, the voice is very quiet.

Also, the lack of being able to press the voice key when closed is a pain. However, if the phone is in portrait mode, even when it goes to standby, the voice key does work.

So is the button problem a bug or is not a problem ! to my mind, if it works when the phone is in portrait mode, it should also work when in landscape and the screen is shut - or am I missing something here !!??

I've tried it but for some unknown reason the headset hack is the only thing which seems to work. However, I highly recommend it because with it you can pipe the music out of media player (which of course you've started using Voice Command) into your bluetooth headset.

Nice!

Just got Voice Command on my O2 XDA Exec. It works quite well but I too am getting the problem of it being too quiet. Is there anything that can be done about this? Particulary when it is reading out the caller ID of an incoming call.

Thanks
