Member Viper2px has reported that T-Mobile UK now has an official download site with the latest UK rom updates for their MDA III and MDA Compact Pocket PC Phone devices.

Theis is the link that I was given: :)

www.t-mobile.co.uk/webnwalksoftware

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

The MDA III has received version 1.42, the newest Blue Angel rom version released anywhere (finally our time has come! :D), while MDA Compact owners can download rom version 1.13 for their HTC Magicians.

Enjoy!

Well lookie lookie what I found:

Next Release:

No further release expected. This device is unable to be upgraded to Windows Mobile™ 5.0 operating system. The new MDA Compact II device will be a Microsoft Windows Mobile™ 5.0 device expected later this month.

No more MDA Compact roms? Not a huge surprise. This is the second MDA Compact rom update released, a feat many providers fail to match.

Later this month? The MDA Compact II has been suggested to be coming for ages but I don't think anyone dared to hope an HTC Magician running WM5 would be out so soon! Lets see, they've got... well, about five days to prove us wrong :)

Even more amusing is that in the MDA III rom update section they don't even TRY to deny that the MDA III (HTC Blue Angel) is capable of being upgraded to WM5 (trust me, it is, as some of you know), just stating that there will be no more rom updates :?:

Next Release:

No further release expected.

It sucks that they provide no backup utility so it'l completely wipe everything!

I don't want to try it on the off chance that i can't get TomTom registered again.

Will I have to do a Bigstorage again? Will updating my 1.12WWE ROM mean I lose the large storage and end up with all the T-Mobile junk in the extended rom again?

Any huge benefit it upgrading?

I expect u would have to do the big storage hack again (if you're willing to risk it!). And yes the extended rom will be included.

As for whether it's worth it, I can't say because I've not got an MDA Compact and don't know what it will change. It was certainly worth it on the Blue Angel...

Have you braved this yet. there seems very little about peoples experiences with this rom upgrade (unlike the hundreds of posts about previous Orange SPV ones!)

I too have TomTom5, and am worried about losing everything - and then not being able to get TomTom working due to over zealous copy protection!

Okay - I have done the upgrade and am not that impressed. Two problems for me:

(a) I haven't done a bigstorake hack yet (problems with my PC and USB) so did the soft-reset before the MDA tried to load all the extended rom stuff. No problem, but then when I installed Intellidialer manually, it doesn't work.

(:) It all seems a lot slower than before.

To get Intellidialer to work I had to run the config and it installed everything (and of course, no way to uninstall all the stuff like Blackberry which I will never use), taking up 15MB of storage.

The signal strength indicator seems to show a lower signal than before as well.....

Erm... And if this happened TomTom support wouldn't help you why? :?:

I have been running this Rom for a few days now on my MDA compact. I must admit, I have seen a huge increase in Battery life.

Phone has been left on with Blueteeth enabled paired to a headset (fair enough only minor call usage-) for nearly 40 hours before needing a charge. I have listened to a few MP3's onthe way to work, I have played Darklaga for a bit......

I have really noticed an instant difference.

1 week prior to the update I had hard reset my device.

This puts me under the impression that the device should have been running perfectly, and the update has given me more power conservation!

Huraah!

Fr the MDA Pro this T-mobile update does not include the RADIO 1.13 version, that many other compatible devices have had for a while. This supports A2DP allowing bluetooth stereo headsets eg Motorola HT820.

This is a really annoying.

I think any MDA / MDA PRO users should petition for the radio version that supports A2DP and bluetooth media streaming.

Eh? The Latest MDA Compact rom definately won't work on the MDA Pro.

Interesting what you say about radio stack 1.13 having A2DP. Are you talking about the MDA III because that update DOES include radio 1.13. Or do you mean the MDA Compact (which I believe the T-Mobile MDA Compact update updates to version 1.12. Which Magician rom includes radio stack 1.13 then?

Aware of that, I would like to update 1 of the phones , preferably the compact.

The compact is the one I have just updated via t-mobile web site and post update is using Radio 1.12 annoyingly, not the latest 1.13 that is around.
