Stereo Headphone Help

OK, so I purchased a 3.5mm - 2.5mm adapter off eBay and it is only giving me mono sound (left side only). I have come to the conclusion that the pinout is incorrect for the MPX200 and I need to do some modifications somehow. I CAN get stereo sound if I slightly unplug the headphones from the phone, but that's just annoying.

So...this is where you guys come in. How exactly do I modify my adapter so that the pins are correctly aligned with the MPX200's pins?

I know that it should be like this: PLASTIC PIECE -> ground -> audio R -> audio L -> mic.

Thanks in advance.

its kinda hard to say w/out actually having a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter to totally tear apart. what i would do is get a spare one, then cut the plastic peice clear off the plug that goes into the phone, and see which wire goes to which section of the plug. then if the wires are color coded, it will be easier to match them up on the good adapter. if theyre not color coded, u can just rip off the plastic, then splice the wires with a pair of headphones. and use some electric tape to wrap it up. thats the best solution i can offer.

i dont think that the pinout for the phone is incorrect, it still works for the cellphone headsets, so it is wired right. its just not wired to the standard of a plug adapter.

or, u could see about getting some little spacers, or make some, and just put that over the plug before u put it in.

I tried the adapter/headphone combo on my friend's MPX220, it works flawlessly.

the pinouts on the mpx200 are slightly different than standard earpeice jacks.

But the pinout on the mpx and my headset adapter are not the same. How can I make them the same?

by figuring out which wire goes to which section of the plug, and switching the wires around.

So it would most likely be easier to sell my adapter on ebay and pick up a new one with the correct pinout or some headphones for the phone. Thanks!

it would be easier to just buy the headset that has stereo headphones and the mouth peice. that way u can use the headset, and when u get a call, just answer it.

If you still have the origional connector with headphones, and it works, cut the cable ABOVE the mic/answer button [the headphone side] buy an inline 3.5 socket from Maplins, wire in left, right and ground/screen and you can plug any old headphones in without worrying about the fancy pinout.

Chances are, what you believe is stereo is one channel shorting out and being fed to both speakers.

You can buy an adapter thats made for the mpx200 and fixes this problem. I got one and it does give you stereo. It comes from hong kong but still only took about 10 days to get here. It's called "3.5mm Audio Adapter" and its only $6.50.
