HTC Wizard doesn't start anymore

Hello there,

I have my HTC wizard for 4 days now and jsut encountered the first problem. I can't start my device anymore. I was on weekend and therefore the battery went completely flat (not ideal but shouldn't hurt that much). I came back and tried to recharge it on a power line, it started to blink red which I took as a good sign. However, on the next morning now light was observed, I tried to restart the wizard. The welcome screen came, showed me all the software and ROM version numbers and then jsut went blank! I saw a red light (indicating low battery) and then nothing, couldn't restart again! Even on the pwerline I can't restart it (I also tried to connect it to the coomputer if the power cable would be defect). I tried a soft and a gardware reset, nothing helped :/

If anyone has an idea, I would be very happy to try it. I didn't install any additional software or anything else which could have interfered with any of the settings.

Hi Michael,

Please do not panic. I started a topic on this a number of months back. For some reason a number of us have found that if you run the battery too low then it will not accept charge (the normal way). There are a number of work-arounds including stripping a USB cable and performing a hardwire charge. This naturally has risks however.

Do read the topic as there were some other good points and suggestions. I wish you well!

thanks so much for your help. What I finally did was the following.

This was an English product and I bought the Swiss travel charger for it since the plugs are not compatibel! The Swiss travel charger had an output of 5.5V and 800mA in comparison of 5V and 1A of the original English charger! This might be the problem?! Anyway when I bought an adapter for the English one it worked eventually and I could charge the battery again! Hope this might help someone eventually if they ever encounter a similar problem!

I will check whether USB is enough to charge from now on.

I had this very same issue last night and it started to freak me out. Each time I started it it would go to the screen that said "Windows Mobile" and and the battery LED would blink red, then a sound would play (the dead battery sound), and it would freeze. I almost hard reset the thing if it weren't for the fact that it wouldn't turn on again after I pulled out the battery. But I got it working again, so here's my solution (don't know if it worked for anyone else):

The battery (or unit) wouldn't power on the device at all (tried pressing the button, nothing happened), so I pulled out the battery for a few minutes, then plugged it in. Then used the original charger and plugged it in. After about a second or two the charge light appeared and I immediately started it back up. The charge light should stay on and it should continue charging while it powers up. Then I just left the unit on and had it charge overnight. Last time I'm ever going to do that. Nearly gave me a heart attack. Hard reset I can deal with - $720+ paperweight (I bought it when it was released from MMB) I definitely can't tolerate.

Hope this solution helps somebody.

P.S.

Sometimes plugging in the charger after removing, waiting, and replacing the battery doesn't work. Keep trying. I thought I could move the phone from the original charger to the cradle with about 10 seconds of charge - nope. Tried again, but it didn't work, so I kept trying (and praying) and then it worked.

add me to the list... i ended up purchasing 2 HTC specific chargers from T-Mobile (USA). 3 seconds after plugging in one of the HTC chargers the charge light comes on and the phone powers up. i'm feeling waaaaaaaaaay better now! :-)

something I remember form I time in school, batteries can improve their power be heating them up... so maybe if there is a problem to star tit up, maybe heat it up to 37°C or 40°C (defenitly wouldn't go to high). I can't take any guarantee that this will work with modern accus, maybe someone who reads this knows more?! Defently heat up the accu without the phone!

not exactly the same reason for the lack of response but here goes.....i have a cingular 8125 and just did a rom update and it crashed.won't turn on,did hard and soft reset,did the battery thing,and still seems to be a very expensive paperweight. any ideas? ;)

It works for me too, PLEASE REMEMBER THE PHONE WILL NOT CHARGE UNTIL WINDOWS MOBILE IS TURNED ON AND WORKING, so give your battery enought boost using the JEFF - FRANKENSTAIN USB CUT CABLE METHOD, you can use whatever cable with MALE USB CONNECTOR AT ONE SIDE, simply cut the cable and get RED AND BLACK wires connected to battery + and - connectors (RED TO +)(BLACK TO -), hold for 3 minutes, be careful not circuit red and black cables beacuse you can harm your computer.

After doing this method, i noticed it happened to me before but thanks god it worked before leaving the phone connected about 6 hours to my office computer, seem the sun tha came accross the window heated the battery and charged it (have you tried to charge AA and AAA batteries this way?), i don´t know if i were lucky that time but definitively this weekend i have not the same luck.

NEVER LEAVE THE BATTERY DRAIN OUT ON HTC 8125 PHONE, BECAUSE IT WONT CHARGE BACK FROM THE PHONE YOU HAVE TO USE THIS JEFF-FRANKENSTAIN METHOD TO CHARGE THE BATTERY, ALSO NEVER TURN OFF THE PHONE TO CHARGE BECAUSE IT WONT WORK or CHARGE.

HTC should ship with their phones this new cutted down cable to avoid us several problems and issues…it will be important to Jeff to patent this method because it really works and saves users to buy 1 or 2 or 3 extra batteries….Jeff maybe you should gain lots of money selling htc a bulk of this cables…..

DOOOOON'T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't connect your crappy unstabilized 5VDC supply to a 3.7V Lithium battery, haven't you ever heard of Lithium fires???

My solution was to wedge 2 wires between the phone and battery, shorting leads 1+2 and 5+6 (don't touch 3 and 4). I connected the wires to a STABILIZED 3.3VDC supply I stole from my Access Point. The phone will work with voltages over 3 Volts, so I booted up my phone and let them sit there for a moment.

1. You can disconnect the wires and connect your USB supply FAST!!!

2. What I did, may be overkill, I connected my laptop USB (running of batteries, preventing unwanted mains loops) and the phone started charging (3.3V isn't enough, phone wants 3.7V)

Pulled out the cables et voila, fixed!!!
