Do not run over an M500 on a bike!

Hello all,

On Tuesday I was going for a ride on my bicycle. I was riding down a hill at 40mph and it got a little bumpy. My M500 was on my belt in it's case and it got shaken off. I saw in fall between my knees and watched the back wheel go over it ;)

This was the result:

I quickly stopped and ran back up the road to retrieve it. I waved franticly to a car, which moved out of the way.

The front cover, battery door and battery got knocked off. I picked up all the pieces and put the battery in the hope of saving the data (it was backed up anyway). Miraculously, it still works. The bottom has a small crack, but the metal face plate is completely bent. To add insult to injury the 1GB SD came out aswell. I spent 1/2 an hour looking up and down the road for it, but I was looking too far down the road. When I finally found it, it had been run over by multiple cars and was completely knackered.

Anyway, enough waffle. The thing I was wondering was, does anybody know where to get a replacement metal M500 cover (of even plastic).

Many thanks,

Modularcarpet.

But wow...the screen remained intact(!) - you are a very lucky person ;) (well, not that lucky otherwise this wouldn't have happened in the first place but still...)

Wow. Amazing the screen stayed intact! Does it still power up OK?

Anyway, see http://www.modaco.com/m500_stylus_casings_...ay-t238850.html for casing details, I've also done a dissassembly method pinned in the magician section.

Yeah, it powers up fine, everything works fine, including the SD card slot, all buttons and the screen (There is a scuff in the top right hand side of the screen where the metal casing dug in (see pic)).

Thanks for the casing link. I did look on ebay before, but I must have missed this one.

My M500 survived an 80MPH crash!

This weekend i went on a motorbiketrip in france using my Orange M500 as a navigation device. Because of the long straight roads in that area i was driving at 130 km/h (80 mls/h) not noticing that my M500 trembled slowly out of its socket (i use the device in landscape mode). i looked in my mirror and saw my M500 falling apart into several pieces and the car behind me run over it.

When i turned, it was a single lane road with almost no traffic, i managed to find all parts. Like modularcarpet the SDcard, the front cover, the battery cover and the battery were spread all over the road and the very long grass next to it.

after half an hour searching i finally found all pieces and put them together. As if it's a miracle the device still works and still got its data. The screen isn't damaged, probably because there was a soft final landing in the long grass next to the road.

I contuinued my trip, but because the front cover is damaged and it was glued t the device i needed to use a piece of electrical tape to keep the M500 in place in its socket on my bike.
